WHOA. You made THIS with Game Maker? Rad!

I love the visual style and the humor! The fish upgrade was NOT expected. lol

Some rad music and more sfx would make it TOP NOTCH!

GOOD WORK!

andreibarsan 2011-05-02 09:43

thanks dude! :D
I promise that for the next ludum dare, I'll learn to use some sort of music making software! :D

Cool intro! The second level could have done with some signposting - it feels like a huge area to explore - but it worked out :D

Love the art too, it's very efficient and clean.

sorry only can evaluate mac or web :(

fenmar 2011-05-03 08:31

It was very humorous and a lot of fun. However - it was much easier to ignore most of the enemies instead of fighting them. Maybe you should have some reward for killing an enemy (like healing)...

@randomnine: Thanks! :D And yeah, I had a feeling it would be a bit confusing. At least it added an extra 3 minutes to tha gameplay time, haha :P

@athanazio: sorry to hear that. :( There *is* a version of game maker for mac, so I'll look for somebody who has it.

So if any GM Mac user is out there, I'll be very grateful if you just downloaded the source and created a Mac executable game! :)

@Fenmar: I thought of that, but I didn't have the time to implement anything... :( Thanks for the feedback anyways! :D
I'm thinking of adding an arena mode to the game, which would consist of a simple, small arena map, where monsters would get spawned constantly, and the player would go for a high score. How does that sound? ^_^

Really nice :)
The pits in level 2 are nasty. I like the fish powerup ;)

brainiac256 2011-05-05 05:42

This was pretty amusing. Also, today I discovered that GameMaker executables run well in Linux with Wine! Yay!

Also also, you should probably make ALL the ground tiles non-passable rather than just the border tiles. I jumped off the screen and landed inside a block of dirt: http://i.imgur.com/LoQ5o.png

andreibarsan 2011-05-05 11:31

@Endurion: Thanks dude! :D Maybe next time I'll just add some tiles with a warning sign or something next to the pits, or just make them shallower.

@brainiac256: I'm really glad that my game works on Linux :D
This was my first platformer ever, and it didn't cross my mind that I could make collision masks any size I wanted, so I just 16x16 ones for every levels. Filling everything up would have taken forever my way, haha. Thanks for the input! :D

I got a 404 error at that link, will try again later.

andreibarsan 2011-05-06 12:18

Fixed download links. Sorry for the issues.

andreibarsan 2011-05-06 16:31

Host was attacked recently. There might be some 404s for a while. I'll post again when everything will be ok. Sorry for the inconvenience...

andreibarsan 2011-05-06 16:36

Haha, awesome friends are awesome. My friend who was kind enough to host the game on his domain fixed everything mindbogglingly fast!

Everything should work perfectly now! ^_^

matthias_zarzecki 2011-05-07 11:14

Quite impressive for game Maker. But as they (I) say, "it's not the weapon that winds the battle, but the soldier who wields it" /pretentious

Anyhoo. This is really funny. I especially love the comments on the health-bar :-)

Nice fish is nice. There were lots of nice details in this game, which is great. Good work.

the-jack 2011-05-23 03:04

Glad I came back for this one!
All around excellent work, liked the whole "programmer as robot" shtick.
Sorta wanted somewhere to spend those hard-earned coins but hey, great game nonetheless.
