There seems to be a bug. In the second level I killed another bot but it was still selected. And than it killed me, but there was no game over screen.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD24 → Assimilator

It didn't load for me in FX. Just a white page saying
"ALIGN = LEFT"
@Spunkmeyer interesting; I've experienced a bot still being selected post-death, but not attacking back :L
I'm building a buglist, shall add it and look into it!
@admung suggests a problem in the Applet Loader finding the main class of the app. I'll look into it
I died on the third level, but when I pressed to play again i have no enemies on the screen
A fun and addictive game to play, but must say, I love the font (:

Haha, well Andrew, ~that's~ a problem :L
Also it doesn't make much sense, given that it evidently works on some systems and not others - but randomly not finding the launcher class? Um...yeah. Well, I'm gonna try and fix the loading issues today, so thanks much!
As with Talslain, I died, restarted and no enemies appeared, but after 3 mins I could start next round. Also, I'm not sure what's causing it but sometimes the char will get stuck going in a particular direction until you unstick it by pressing and releasing that direction. Other than that, it's pretty smooth, and the controls are good enough. It's interesting, and I can see a lot of potential! Keep it up, man.
The web version does not work.
Web version worked great for me! Very fun indeed!
dont really understand it
I've added a desktop version for the cases where the web version fails. I've not been able to work out why the web version fails, as sometimes it's an LWJGL Applet Loader error, sometimes it fails to find the main class and sometimes it plain doesn't start at all. These issues would be easy to fix if they occurred all the time and (especially) on my machine, but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) they don't. The desktop version contains binaries for all three major platforms, so it should be fine as a substitute :)
The beginning is too sloow. Had some fun anyway.
Really nice UI art and concept, but I was a little confused with the gameplay, such as, why your health decreases so quickly. I tried twice to kill anything before running out of health but couldn't help dying and so, found that a bit unfair. Still definitely not the worst game I've played, though.
I liked this game had some fun with it! :)
The theme use is right but not really creative in this one. I liked the story a lot though. An evil scientist battling digital vaginas - or nanobots you say. :D
The design is great! It's got lots of potential. And the scrolling must have been a hell lot of a work to implement in 48 hours.
There are some problems though.
- Half or third of the 2 minutes spends doing nothing as there are no enemies. Maybe a 'speed up time' button would be great to keep the action going.
- There were times when my abbilities got deselected and also there were when SPACE didn't done anything even if the first abbility was selected. I couldn't find out how to use the other abbilites, I bought them but them seems to do nothing. Oh and btw, some icons would be great for them!
- Maybe sliders would be better on the upgrades screen because I swear I heard my mouse screaming. Not to mention my clicking finger. :)
- Health and Power can get outside of the box if they are too high.
Thank you for making it, I had fun! You should finish this idea to a certain level where it isn't get the above minor problems so it becames action packed and more fun! :)
Thanks RawBits, and in response:
The level scrolling was a bitch. A real bitch. I spent maybe 4 hours total (not clumped together) coding it, fixing it and making it work. It's really dependant on the size of the player, too, so whenever I changed that I had to fix scrolling again. Bad system but it works :L
- I totally didn't think of speeding up time, and that's a great idea! Conceptually, it's simple too - I could make everything in the game world happen faster with just a simple variable :L
- I've unfortunately not been able to reproduce any of the ability bugs people've been talking about, but I immediately recognised the problem with blank boxes to represent them and the fact that you can select abilities you don't have. Other than that, in my experience (I spent a long time bug testing this, too) the abilities work fine, I'm sorry you found a bug there...the third ability, Buddies, is my favourite thing in the game, so I'll see if I can find these bugs and try to fix them so people can use them with no problem :)
- My apologies about the clicking finger, but sliders would've been too complex to implement given the time I had remaining.
- At one point I tried scaling the box's size by the size of the health/power bars, but ran into issues that I was too dumb to fix at the time. Thinking now, I have a fix in mind :)
The plan was to keep working on this 'til it's at a stage where it'd fit on Kongregate, as I already have an account there and feel like this'd be a good release (eventually). Thanks much for the support!
So, in the instruction the '5' looks like an 'S' which confused me with the controls on the first try. But after rereading and trying again I still couldn't figure out how to play this game. Some of the red ones disappeared after hacking the number keys on my keyboard.
I really enjoyed this game! With the stat system you have going it looks like you can get a lot of replay.
Couple of things I noticed. It would be nice to have a few more sounds than the little chime at the beginning. The font is really confusing, with the "5" looking like the "S". The enemy attack should be a different color; one playthrough I thought I was attacking but ended up dead because it was the enemy who was attacking instead. I also found that when you need to relaunch the game in order to reset everything properly, otherwise you can't attack and there are no monsters. I had problems playing the web build in Firefox but no difficulty in Chrome.
Gameplay wise it was very solid; I find that for games that counts for a lot. Nice job!
Pushed an update to fix two bugs and introduce a better help screen with a different, more readable font and more info. See main description for more details :)
Got hard but fun.
