The messy art style is quite interesting.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD23 → Particulate Planet

The messy art style is quite interesting.
That sounds is disturbing :O Good art style in the beginning!
Dig your use of charcoal, it certainly has a knack for conveying negative emotion/terror/ugliness.
Lovely intro, reminds me of Francis Bacon a bit.
Cool graphics, love the style!
It could have been improved by... everything being better. I think a lot more effort could have gone into this.
Thanks for trying.
Yay, that was fun!
I found a "cheat" - there's a point on the screen where you should aim and click endlessly - and you won't get any troubles. That was weird, but acceptable)
Overall game is good - it's fun, funny and has tons of mood! Now I want you to make another game with that style)
I do agree that it could be improoved, but to do so you got to improove every single piece of it, because for now it feels soooo complete.
The gameplay is just too simple for such a great art style and sound mood. I like the drawings and surreal story.
Sounds horrible, in the annoying way, but a good effort, I can see what you were trying to accomplish with it.
It took a long time to get used to the shooting style. I don't like the art style either, it's too messy. Good concept though.
Very artsy but what would be really cool is a win condition and more of your weird illustrations to go with it :)
This game is very disturbing. Mood +5
Well that was different...art style and sound were top notch :D Thanks!
Interesting! Loved the art style.
The disturbed mood really sets it apart from other entries. Never got a hang of the targeting, though.
Really different - excellent art style!
This game made me feel uneasy though the graphics and soundeffects.
Nice, too bad it becomes real easy after a while =(
I really liked the intro
Hey everyone, thanks for all the great comments! It's really encouraging to know that the game is getting played! :)
I've noticed more people are rating the game without leaving comments. Please try to leave a comment if possible, even if you're repeating what others have said; it's really helpful to get the extra feedback of how many people feel a certain way.
Lastly, there's now a post-compo version that addresses some issues everyone had with the initial release. Can you please say which version(s) your comments are relevant to?
THANKS guys, you rock!! :)
This is a really odd game. :) But it hangs together and that is a good thing. The pills coming towards the house on the right are hard to hit. After they start getting closer I couldn't find any way to hit them. But fortunately once that building is dead I was able to stave off the ones coming for the buildings on the left. Glad I didn't have to go for 5 minutes! ;)
Great art style in the intro, but the gameplay isn't engaging at all.
Loved the intro and b-movie weeeeird sound effect throughout :)
I played the post compo version.
Interesting art style, I had some problems to hit close targets, projectiles sometimes seemed to go through them...
The intro is quite nice but the gameplay seems to be lacking something.
I liked the beginning, with the somewhat chaotic style/storyline... but then the gameplay didn't match that whatsoever. The shooting was a bit off too, but not too shabby.
The shooting is very difficult without depth perception; the player has no way to tell exactly where (along the Z axis) a bullet will go (the cursor may change size with depth, but that only tells the player a given cursor depth's *relative* position to another cursor depth, without showing how close/far the cursor is to the pills). This might be better as a 3D game, if you can figure out a simple enough way to implement that- perhaps two side-by-side views where the player has to cross their eyes? Also, as far as the control scheme is concerned, make sure to have alternate controls for people playing on more limited systems (like laptops)- for instance, not everyone has a mouse wheel.
That said, I like the artsy/eerie aesthetic this game has. Some of the graphics (the people in the intro, the buildings you defend) are a bit too messy to tell what they are/what's going on, but I definitely wouldn't take out the "messy" aspect wholesale; that's one of the game's strengths. I applaud the decision in the post-compo version to keep that high-pitched drone confined to the opening cutscene, but the new gameplay sounds sound more whimsical than eerie. Even so, some audio feedback for the player's actions is better than no audio feedback, and I don't know if you plan on swapping those sounds.
The art is pretty good. I liked the intro!
its really wierd,but thats good!
I also like the art style.
Weird
Looks interesting! I always like a unique art style in a game.
...Crap! The executable crashes on me after showing the Unity splash! :(
PS OK you were right...I should've removed the dropbox link after several people said their virus scanners told them the file was infected. I fixed that now. Thanks for playing my game!
Totally weird. I like it!
OMFG!!!
Thank you Jedi!
I scanned with the program you reccomended and found 33 files infected with Paramite A!! I have been violated! Raped! Infected! Betrayed! I will never trust anyone again!!!
Luckily it also removed all the infected files. One was an early version of my current project, which made me very glad of my compulsive habit of saving a backup of my work every 1-4 days.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention... I shouldn't have been so naive about viruses, but I have this other really old computer that refuses to let anything work and often gives things like false virus warnings, and I guess it desensitized me.
