(sorry for my english)
With some better art, it could have been much more scary, but even at that state, it's really creepy, the guy popping up behind you is cool, but his design is just funny, that too bad

irreal 2011-08-22 20:40

Love the thing behind you. Even when you know it's there and you keep seeing him, it still spooks you. Reckon on creepy music would ramp up the fear too...

mpc174 2011-08-22 21:07

Didn't realize the thing was behind me on my first play, super creepy when I saw it! Couldn't find the exit, needs balancing. I also made an imperfect creepy Unity game, by the way!

offwhitefox 2011-08-22 22:54

Would work much much better with some sound and a better sense of space. As it was, I felt like I was lost the entire time, which meant I wasn't really engaged in the game. Better luck next time :)

@offwhitefox
There is some sound.... breathing sounds from the monster and the torches make noise. I really should have implemented footstep sound though - and some other environmental sounds.

@mpc174 I'll have to check out your game too! Hum, the exit can be a bit hard to find, but it is there in each game... although it is easy to lose your bearings since there isn't much variation in the maze.

@Jasper Stocker Thanks, I have no experience with making music, but well placed music could definitely help with the mood of things.

@astrkl I'm not all that good at 3d modeling, or texturing, so it was the best I could do in the time I had, thanks though =)

I got captured, But it is pretty awesome :)

lilserf 2011-08-23 15:13

I had no idea anything was following me at all. After exploring for like 5 minutes and finding a creepy picture, I just got a "you were captured" message. Kind of a bummer way to end after all that work. I didn't really know how to find the exit other than the standard follow-a-wall maze navigation.

wonderwhy-er 2011-08-23 15:30

Heh, liked that creeping guy, does have some atmosphere.
Nice work.

andybrown 2011-08-23 20:57

@lilserf sorry about that, a lot of people ended up not seeing him because of turning slowly - not checking their backs etc. If you don't have your sound up a bit to hear the breathing I guess there's no real way to tell that he's behind you, staring into your soul. And yeah, sometimes finding the exit can be a rather hard.. as the mazes are random each time, sometimes it's really easy though =)

@wonderwhy & MidnightOz Thanks a lot!

marudziik 2011-08-24 11:04

Creepy, nice work. I managed to escape! :)

pekuja 2011-08-24 17:13

This was pretty creepy actually. I was hoping for something more from the ending, but roaming the labyrinth had a cool creepy mood to it, although I guess there was no real threat there. I even found the portrait of the monster, but I didn't really understand the significance of that.

andybrown 2011-08-24 20:20

@marudziik Thank you!

@pekuja Thanks! The portrait gives you extra time when you get close enough to it, 50 more seconds of the monster staring into your soul before it can capture you, but yes, there is no way for players to know that... I wasn't sure what to do to about that when making the game, it was actually one of the last minute things to get put into the game.

winterblood 2011-08-25 22:57

Nice atmosphere, but not a lot to do. I tried to spot the creepy guy other commenters mention, but couldn't see more than a brief 1-frame flash. I suspect my framerate may be too high?

shigor 2011-08-26 02:01

Nice atmosphere for a while(thanks to the creepy breathing sound mostly), but in the end it's just a simple maze

natenaterson 2011-08-26 14:28

I really like the scary Joe guy following you.

Mexul 2011-08-27 02:58

I've played Penumbra, and nothing scared me more than the guy popping up behind me...

craigalexander 2011-08-27 10:59

Oooh, atmospheric. Nicely done.

barigorokarl 2011-08-27 16:18

Nice and dark.

rudy 2011-08-29 14:30

Very atmospheric. May want to reduce the bump mapping specularity to make it more realistic. Love the thing behind, but it appears too often and once you pay attention is a very simple sprite. Music have been awesome, sounds are a bit quiet. No sense of direction though and what to do. Overall nicely done.

kirbytails7 2011-08-30 04:21

I definitely got a bit freaked out when I saw something following me. Also, random maze generation is pretty sweet, if not a bit erratic; I got placed right next to the exit one time I played.

matthias_zarzecki 2011-08-30 14:54

The timing of the evil thingie is almost perfect. He's seen just long enough for you to notice something isn't right :-)

recursor 2011-09-07 21:25

This is actually pretty interesting even with the sparse environment. I think you could turn it into something really cool with some more labyrinth decorations and perhaps some monsters to battle ... oh wait. I just read a few of the comments. Seems I've missed something, so I'm headed back in to play it again.

recursor 2011-09-07 21:27

Ah! I just saw the "thing". Very creepy and pretty cool!

Dkkevin2 2011-09-11 15:50

got captured first time finished it second time just lucky i guess cool game anyways. congrats :D
