Deraj:
You will definitely get an illegal address when running the level editor if you do not set some things up properly as mentioned in the Readme.
If you're getting that error when running the actual game, it's possible that the game can't find some required files (the sounds, graphics, and level data) so please make sure to unzip everything before trying to run the game.
Aside from that... I got that error when trying to run the game in WINE in Ubuntu 10.10. What environment are you running the game in?
vitae: To wall jump you must be within 3 pixels of the wall and the tips of your tentacles must be above the bottom of the wall. The vertical shaft in easy mode right after being introduced to wall jumps is a good place to practice. I can only assume that you're pressing jump too early, or that you're stopping too far from the wall, because in most cases (that is, unless you fall below the bottom of the wall) pressing jump too late will still result in a wall jump.
Alternatively, there may be a bug with the controls in your specific environment. What kind of system are you using to play the game?
Should be fixed in the Windows download.
If you're compiling from source you're gonna have a bad time; the version of sfml used is nonstandard and to match it you need a specific compiler version. I used mingw-w64 i686-4.9.2-release-win32-sjlj-rt_v3-rev0.
