It stops working after about a minute and a half. Also, enemies and their bullets sometimes randomly disappear. Good job finishing something though!

The archive seems to be corrupt for me.

@Jacic, @johnfn:
Please re-download, I've made a fix for that bug.

johnfn 2011-08-24 05:04

Cool, you fixed it! Nice little game. My primary complaint is that I didn't feel like much skill was involved. I just ran through and shot everything and won. It seemed like it was almost impossible to dodge the enemy bullets, and I only rarely succeeded even though I was constantly strafing. On the other hand, you balanced the game well, and I was very close to dying when I won - so good work there.

@johnfn: This was the first time I made a top down shooter type game, Getting the whole shooting, mouse-aiming mechanic took a lot of time, and the fact that I started coding after 24 hours adds didn't help.
The bullets are too fast compared to the player but they can still can be avoided by strafing (but of course, its rare!).
Infact the game's aim is to escape quickly, if you wait too long, then you're a dead cat!

@Jacic: I forgot to reply to the other part of your comment. The enemies can shoot only when they're on the screen (actually from 20 to 620 pixels), otherwise, they start chasing you and since the player is slightly faster than the enemies, you may not see them behind you.

I love the hundred megabyte text log game managed to create before it crashed. I was wondering why game hangs here and there and why my harddrive suddenly goes on overdrive. If there was something interesting in the log I wouldn't complain so much, but...
Millions of
"Getting bullet co-ords..
Getting enemy co-ords..
end"
doesn't make very interesting reading.

I've attempted yet another try but then it crashes before the game shows, after intro screen, so I gave up, especially since what I've seen from the game in about minute before the crash doesn't seem like there's anything more then I've already seen.

I wanted to say something nice about the music, but since it's taken from the IndieGames, it means you've broke the rules for compo (ALL content created by yourself).

tecfreak 2011-08-29 16:20

@Shigor: I didn't realize that music should also created by me. I've removed that. There shouldn't be any crashing, since when I last updated it, I played through the game about 5 times and didn't encounter a single crash. Please re-download and check.

My main concern is that I can't seem to avoid the bullets at all. Are the enemies using "curved bullets" like in Wanted??

tecfreak 2011-09-11 09:05

No, the bullets are quite fast plus I didn't get to implementing a mag and reload system, so the bullets come out quite a lot and tend to look like curved. However, if you look at individual bullets, they have linear paths. The motion is independent of angle. You can check out the code.
