LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

人気があるよ!(~Be popular!) by Jordgubben 2017-12-16T17:01:27Z

I liked the idea that the player has to invest themselves physically in the game! The controls are a bit unresponsive though.

SHOPPOTRON by basecase 2017-12-16T16:53:40Z

Frustrating to play through but worth it.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Off the Rails 2 by Karai17 2018-12-30T20:52:49Z

It looks like you should develop this idea further outside of the context of the game jam. The game is fun but has nothing to do with the theme which is a shame. The sound design work is well done, especially for this type of game. A 3D game like this is pretty ambitious. The dab button +1.

Cult Under Construction by Neon 2018-12-30T20:35:20Z

This game is better than the sum of it's parts, the presentation is spot on but the problem is obviously that it wasn't developped enough. The FOV is way too high, but that should be resolved pretty easily I believe.

Puppyups by commanderstitch 2018-12-30T20:23:40Z

Making a two player game isn't easy (I made one this LD) but making it optionnal too is even better. Well done, the gameplay is fun at first but when you see that screen full of dogs, there is no incentive to get them all. The grappling hook works but not very consistently. There is no real challenge either. The sound design is top dog though (pun intended).

Occult Defence Agency Budgeting Simulator by Zarkonnen 2018-12-30T21:26:57Z

This was really fun and within the theme. From all the games of the jam, this felt like I was making the hardest choices, especially because the game is so responsive and detailled. Great job!

Late Bloom by drkr 2018-12-30T19:24:52Z

The amount of dialogue and unique lines and clients is pretty impressive! I played it for awhile just to see how much there is but the simple gameplay isn't enough. It's a shame you weren't able to link the game to the theme, but still for what it is, it's pretty good.

Ludum Dare: The Game by pantoufle 2018-12-04T01:44:57Z

There's no real gameplay to speak of but it's a fun little meta humor-filled game. The systems are simple and reactive with little bleeps and bloops to accompany it all. Good stuff!

Few Word by PTSnoop 2018-12-30T18:45:25Z

Completed it, but even if I would have been unsuccessful, I'd still give this game a good review. It's a shame there is no feedback or sound but the rest is well thought out and aesthetically pleasing. Not a very replayable game but still an enjoyable experience the first time through.

COOLTits by Artur Majewski 2018-12-30T20:09:08Z

I like the idea, sort of like Underhand and Cultist Simulator, I always like games set in Lovecraftian settings. There's music and sound design so that's a big plus, most of these types of games suffer without those things. Plus there's a sense of progression which makes the player want to see the end.

King Of The Building by Tiberiusuciu 2018-12-30T22:19:26Z

Very nicely done, I'm particularly impressed by the random generation of the platforms and NPCs. It really adds a lot to the game. Plus the mechanics are responsive, the feedbacks are clear and there's a good challenge here to allow for some solid gameplay.

Prayer for the Dead by Reid Willis 2018-12-04T05:32:16Z

It looks really good, I will give it that. That main menu, although lacking a quit button is flawless. The choice of music gives the game a sense of indentity but the gameplay much less so. There's no use in nitpicking over bugs but the problem lies in the some of the core ideas of the game. Why even make it a high score based game ? There are many quotes and texts but they are the only thing which gives any context to the player's actions. But hey this is still a lot better than my first Ludum Dare game, keep it up !

Box Game by sevkron 2018-12-30T22:54:19Z

@drevilbrain Our inital ideas came from Duck Game and Stick Fight as well, thanks for the feedback !

Box Game by sevkron 2018-12-31T12:32:30Z

@ajayajayaj First of all thanks for the feedback!

To be honest, once we had the initial concept, we continued forward without questionning the sacrifice mechanic. Turns out a lot of people came up with this same type of idea for the theme (sacrificing a player mechanic). Your suggestion is a better way of doing this for sure.

It didn't feel honest to opt in that category because we didn't make the sound effects from scratch unlike some other entries. Having them is important for the gameplay experience so I did spend some time implementing them. But the music is original though, so thank you for the compliment, we had fun making it.

I would continue this project for sure, I'm happy with it.

Sacrival by Rewzu 2018-12-30T13:55:56Z

I played this game for way too long, in a good way of course. The idea and the mechanics pushed me further to see all you were able to impliment within the game. It's impressive. Sure there is sound missing but the little that there is works. There's a not much to master in the end but the game as it is has enough. Great stuff!

The Lord's Shepherd by Sam Dower 2018-12-30T13:10:40Z

Well done on those 3D models and the ambition of the game. For two people and I suppose was only 1 programmer, this works well. I don't mind that the UX was sacrificed but the most important for me is responsiveness, which was the real missing component. BTW I don't know if it was such a great idea to put yourselves in the "Audio" category. The music does get a bit grating. Otherwise, good job!

Trials of K'zhak by DrEvilBrain 2018-12-30T22:29:28Z

Right so the music and the visuals go very well together, that is if the game wasn't combat oriented. It is very sluggish and the dodge doesn't work well but it still feels like there's potential here. I'm pretty sure this isn't meant to be finished, correct me if I'm wrong.

Endless Nungeon by Haustgeirr 2018-12-30T22:40:38Z

Solid game but I can't help but notice you can play through a game without having to make a sacrifice. One can get all the main power ups quite early on. The other aspects of the game are well done, and it was 100% functionnal for me!

PhotoSheep by JakNak72 2018-12-30T19:38:25Z

The accomplishment here has to be admired, it was pretty simple to get the game going, it's unfortunate that so few people are able to play it. It's pretty funny and I now have more confidence in my own photoshop skill but it is too short with no replayability.

Last Man In Space by izi 2018-12-04T06:12:37Z

I feel like this is something I'd have to revisit. I like the tone and the fun visuals, in a incoherent strange way. Too bad the main focus of the gameplay is just going from place to place. The UI elements are well done though !

F R I E N D G U N by Hydezeke 2018-12-04T05:54:25Z

Wow, funny how just a context is enough to create attachment. I genuinely felt bad shooting those bullet people. But it made sense, the game has a narrative and it makes sense within the universe. The execution also paid off really well. Too bad the enemies don't seem to do anything except fly around ? Top ratings for everyone, the only problem is maybe in the sound and sound balancing but no game is perfect!

Memento Morty by okuar 2018-12-04T05:09:45Z

Past the Rick and Morty theming (which I really enjoy), this game is original and fun. I did find the audio to be repetitive and some feedbacks not so clear but that last level really did bring the concepts of the game forward.

LD45 — Start with nothing

Brushin' Biz by andos 2019-10-14T15:50:02Z

Great job on the main mechanic, it's very satisfying. The whole game has a very recognisable aesthetic, really sets the mood along with the music. It was a bit too long, and since there's no additionnal modifiers on the brushing as the game goes on, it does become monotonus. The autobrushing was a great idea though and the brush always seems to go where you want it to.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Falling down from above by Sublustris 2021-05-06T13:43:19Z

Glad you got your game working. That title screen is great and generally the visuals are easily readable and understandable. It's also very intuitive which is not always the case with jam games ! For the gameplay I imagine this would be better on a phone ? The game is pretty hard, I didn't get very far at all. You should consider implementing a more progressive difficulty where the timing is easy at first and then later becomes harder. But it seems to be proceduraly generated which is quite a feat in itself.

Final Society by conrad123 2021-05-15T15:28:41Z

I was looking for VR games to try out and I'm very glad to have found yours!

The player controller you used for this is fantastic, the body and controller physics really give a sense of immersion set by games Half-Life: Alyx. Suffice to say, the climbing felt fantastic especially having not read the controls before hand, it came as a nice surprise.

The pacing is a bit slow but worth it for the final sequence I'd say. Having some true puzzle elements instead of just not doing what you're told or finding the exit to the mazes give the game some momentum.

There was a real sense of style in the presentation despite the bare-bones graphics. Though, you can get a bit lost because of the lack of lighting/perspective. By the end of the game I grew quite an affinity with Spencer and the way he says "the Final Society".

I did start having headaches after awhile despite being pretty used to VR, perhaps adding a vignette effect when moving would help for comfort?

Thanks for making this, it was a lot of fun to play!

The Discloser by agentparsec 2021-05-06T12:02:31Z

Really excited to see someone make an investigation conspiracy game, especially considering the theme. I got pretty deep into the investigation. Loved how things go completely off the rails at the end. The aesthetics were great, they served the game well and had a very old school OS vibe. The last phase is pretty difficult and it's pretty hard to get to the end (if there is one) even on subsequent playthroughs. You could also definetly improve comprehensibility by having the symbols on the post-its match those on the action bar. All in all a very cool experience !

THE PIT by Almax 2021-04-27T13:35:31Z

Very well done wall running and teleporting mechanics. Game controls are very intuitive, plus you can telefrag, a nice nod for an Unreal Engine game. The final arena was definetly a high point, freedom of movement, many routes to take, no death trigger volumes... Didn't care for the pure platforming sections though. Played it until the ending which, might I add, was a nice touch.

Endoparasitic by miziziziz 2021-04-26T22:32:19Z

This is a great game, execution and all. The aesthetics, the "show don't tell" tutorialization and story. There's a real rise in tension over the course of the levels and you feel it. There's the final level of course but also moments in between, like the dead end where you have to reload quickly before getting caught. A true survival horror experience.

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-26T13:30:52Z

@iorena I definetly had some trouble getting the difficulty just right. Spawn values, canvas sizes and all that . Thanks for the feedback!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-26T13:32:44Z

@pohko Thanks, I was worried my idea for the theme would get lost in the sauce. I see that it wasn't :smile_cat:!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-26T13:34:52Z

@hruhf That reward is how I know who the completionists are. Thanks and conscratches for completing the game!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-26T13:37:24Z

@almgru I worked hard on those meows. Well done for the completing that second day!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-26T14:09:05Z

@vegmuffin What can I say? I'm a big fan of Lucas Pope ^^. Thanks, I had a fun time making the music, all 3 minutes of it.

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-27T15:19:08Z

@mrnyarlathotep The idea is that you have to read the other information on the form (likes, dislikes and cause of death) to find out if they were too needy or obsessed with food. But hey, glad you found a strat that worked, thanks for playing!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-27T15:21:36Z

@afroant I would definitely rebalance that last level before adding all 9 circles of purrgatory into the game like I originally intended. Conscratches for completing it!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-27T15:23:57Z

@doc-kaos Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow! (Thanks for playing and for the kind words! )

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-27T15:29:38Z

@remus-rain Hello, glad you enjoyed my game as much as I enjoyed yours ^^.

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-01T16:34:04Z

@pnkvrt I think I might try implementing a more progressive difficulty system, to try to balance things out. Thanks for playing!

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-06T09:15:29Z

@wolfier I've never played Cat's Quest, I'll check it out sometime !

I take it you didn't get to try the second day ? The logic for which circle a cat needs to go to is pretty much : - No owner = Limbo - Wanting too much affection or claiming to not have enough = Needy - Eating/Drinking excessively or being fussy over food = Gourmand - Liking and paticipating in violence or being agressive = Mean - Wanting to leave owner or not appreciating owner = Disloyal

The idea of having the arm in 2D was to use it as the player's mouse since it interacts with UI elements. Plus my 3D modeling skills are pretty basic. Thanks for playing !

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-06T09:22:01Z

@pikatchum I'd love to have even more fellow French-speakers try the game ^^. Thanks for the kind words. While reworking on it I got ideas for adding more levels, circles, difficulties and an economy system. Perhaps there will be more to play at a later date ? Conscratches on finishing the game !

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-09T18:44:58Z

@chillen Glad you enjoyed the music, it was my first try at making my own music for a game.

I didn't have time to iterate much on the kinetic feel of the physics in this version. Having the objects really inherit the force of the player's hand is a cool idea. I'm a bit less sure about having the pen snap onto the checkboxes, I did at least make them about 2x larger in the Post LD version.

I can tell you that there is a counter on the top right of the screen which shows you the amount you have gotten correct. It probably should be accompanied with another type of feedback saying when you got one right. You do receive a Demerit message when you get one wrong, it appears on your desk, but actually mentioning what exactly you got wrong would eliminate a lot of guess work for the players.

Thanks for the more in depth feedback and for playing !

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-09T18:46:37Z

@fueelin I hope you got to try the Post LD version afterwards, where I tried to rebalance the levels a bit better ^^. Thanks for playing !

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-09T18:50:36Z

@dan-mcalister Thanks ! I appreciate you getting the general "vibe" of my game.

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-05-15T15:37:24Z

@suchista Thanks ^^, it was my first try at the LD compo so I'm already glad to have a end result that's complete enough, ignoring the difficulty balance. I think the problem with clicking on stuff is due to the fact that it only takes into account where the "true" position of the mouse cursor is, the hand you control is much larger thant that so it maybe what is causing confusion.

A Friendly Dig by Chillen 2021-04-27T13:00:46Z

Great job on the Atari-esque graphics and sound design. It really felt like playing one of those old titles. I really dug  the little bits of text from the protagonist's perspective. Super eerie. Also I didn't find a way to dig diagonaly, could be useful feature to create escape routes.

Deeper & Deeper Winery by ciaccodavide 2021-04-27T08:12:05Z

I liked the elegance of just having any input be valid to control the game. The variation on the timing to open the bottles keeps things engaging for the runtime. Could have used some variety in the bottles you open but besides that the graphics are nice and homogeneous.

Purgatory by Squeele 2021-04-26T22:07:20Z

This is a great variation on the theme (I should, I had similar ideas for my game ). It's supported by some really nice 2D visuals, the end comic is a really nice touch. For the gameplay, it reminded me of something like Reigns, you could easily make a mobile version of this. The fast hectic way to the bottom doesn't become too hard even though you have much less time to make decisions towards the end. Bien joué à tous!

Redtape by NeitherNathan 2021-05-06T12:43:30Z

The Post Ludum Dare version is terrific, very glad you were able to get sound in the game and having it mostly bug-free ! I really liked the graphics and general idea of bureaucracy in hell. You really nailed the PS1 aesthetics and the absurdist mix on photography/3D/2D.

Submergence by TomekS 2021-04-26T13:05:46Z

A fantastic atmospheric game, reminded me of Abzu or that submarine section from Inside. The lower-grade simple visuals and the little details; like the bubble physics, that fish flocking behaviour the propeller animation, are so satisfying to watch! Gameplay could easily be improved with a more forgiving collision or perhaps a submarine HP system.

Lie or Die by Nobleboy 2021-05-06T13:23:23Z

It's very much a trial and error type game but it was fun nonetheless. I wasn't really sure when my stress levels were getting lower but I seemed to be able to manage it. I mostly lost because I wasn't giving satisfying answers. The mood and atmosphere was great and I'm glad you had some audio to back it up ! Well done.

Deep into the mine by BubakGames 2021-04-26T21:41:28Z

The hilarity of a ghost with a gun gets to me. Here's this cute little handdrawn aesthetic and then there's a straight up Colt 1911. Is he shooting ghost bullets? If so do they penetrate physical objects like real ones? Do they need a liscence to carry one? Needs work in the gameplay, a right mouse click to reload would be nice. Spiders are too fast!

It came out of space by Suchista 2021-05-15T15:52:33Z

The gameplay isn't what interested me so much as the overal style of the game. The VFX were pretty good, it's a shame that it wasn't accompanied with sound to go along with it. The graphic style almost reminded me of engraving, especially when the lighting goes wild at the end. Along with the music it was all very creepy.

Murder on 34th Street by DanyVk 2021-05-06T14:08:45Z

You should definetly try to improve the general speed of the game. As is, along with the graphics, it really creates a dark heavy atmosphere. This is a good thing (visuals are +++) but it's a bit too much. Also need to improve the presenting evidence part of the game, make it more clear to the player . It's a really good idea and mood but needs a bit more playability.

For King, for Freedom and for Law! by Douwe_Ravers 2021-04-26T19:26:29Z

Vive la Belgique! I'm French but I still got a kick out of this game for it's historical context. The gameplay idea of aiming and firing the muskets of the company is really neat. I liked that sense of chaos when you just charge into an enemy or when your own guys kill each other with their bullets. I finished the game but it was a bit long, in the second level the amount of enemies killed didn't update for me but it turned out fine. Word to players; you can fire multiple times like it's a machine gun but do it at your own risk .

Soul Catcher by DragonsBeardGames 2021-04-26T18:35:36Z

I never thought I would be into pachinko. The game is quirky and fun, love the janky physics and ever increasing stats of your characters. Having just that interaction with catching the characters is a great idea for a casual game like this. There are some problems, abilities start feeling very samey after awhile and by then nothing really poses a threat. Could be interesting to have abilities that only take effect when a hero goes into pachinko. Anyways, good stuff!

The Dwarven Brigade by Wolfier 2021-05-06T10:28:01Z

This was super addictive reminded me of my time playing Motherlode back in the day, really wanted to keep digging deeper and deeper. There's a progression system similar to that game that really pushes the player to go further, discover the next ressource type, upgrade etc... Shame I kept of running into the same type of crashes as the other players.

Learning the game is a bit rough at first but there aren't too many elements to get a handle on. Managing dwarves become fairly easy once I understood the logic. Slightly shorter delay on the apperance of the tooltips would be good, especially since it's the only tutorial you get in-game.

Artstyle is really clear and nicely stylized though the color of the stockpile is a very similar color to the dirt background.

This is a quite an ambitious simulation-type game and it works quite well. Very well done.

Deep Survivors Guilt by Krebzor 2021-05-06T11:02:18Z

The game works very well, I was never too lost and I was intrigued right from the start. I liked the physics system with the gravity of the planets pulling the player and having to measure out your fuel. The aesthetics were really nice, especially the title screen and animations. Extending that same style and polish to the UI elements would have really pushed the game's graphics even further.

Dream Diver by Stephen Scott Day 2021-05-06T13:34:34Z

It's a too bad that getting to the deeper levels of dreams, I quickly become stuck with no more sedatives. The game starts out great, the How-To video is very well done and the visuals are very cool and surreal. It's a shame none of the UI elements are drenched in the same atmosphere as that title screen. The voice work and audio were also a nice touch. There's a really fun idea here that could be pushed a lot further for sure.

Sinking City by glichseaker000 2021-04-26T15:55:23Z

I had fun becoming a bunny-hopping, water-avoiding, parkour legend. The final cutscene was a nice touch! In terms of level design, having to cross the floors to get to a staircase on the other side would be a more fun challenge. This would also take more advantage of the randomized furniture in the way. Mouse sens was appropriate for me, maybe we have the same DPI?

Crypt Raider by chulini 2021-04-27T09:26:59Z

The level designers did a great job here, the introduction on new mechanics, the absolutely devious ambushes. The style is really cool, reminded me of Slasher's Keep. Environments have enough detail that you really get a sense of place in these nonsensical crypts. The character's weapon has a really neat design. My only problem is the "die and retry" aspect of the experience. Escaping a level, spoils aquired and skeletons on your heels is a fun, tension-filled Indiana Jones reward, getting one-shot backstabbed by a skeleton that silently snuck up behind you is not so fun.

DEEPORB by Taft Punk 2021-04-26T15:20:38Z

There are some good ideas here. It reminds me of a combination of Baba Is You and Duskers. The Orb having lag the deeper you go is neat and can build tension. Needs some quality of life improvements, perhaps shortcuts for commands and larger text boxes when in full screen. Glad you got your build working!

Aquaphobia by Szenos 2021-05-06T10:43:06Z

Congrats on your first Ludum Dare ! You had a sense of humor when creating this that I appreciated. The diving part was definetly janky but there was some cinematic/story ambitions here that are commendable. Good job on that intro cinematic and the moment with the tentacle !

Fishing the Deep by DDesignDude 2021-05-06T13:02:34Z

Props for using an original platform for your game. I'd love to try it on the hardware since the game feel would be totally different than playing with just a mouse. The graphics and music were really nice. It's a shame you weren't able to use the top screen for more than just showing UI elements. Good use for the theme though !

I'm So Deep by liammasters 2021-04-26T14:41:13Z

Text recognition? Poetry writing? Yes please! Once you get the general idea of what the game wants, it becomes a really fun creative writing exercise. There's nothing like player expression. Plus look at that roll. A true alpha move.

Graphite Journey by pnkvrt 2021-04-27T08:27:02Z

There's a good idea for the theme here, repeating the same level, the scribbles on the ground which indicate a darker world. It's a shame, I would have loved to know where this could be going. The handdrawn graphics are great though, well done!

Find The Page! by Rouge_dragon 2021-04-26T15:01:58Z

The leaderboard is a great addition. I tried to go for a speed run since it's the same links at each time. (Also I may have used CTRL+F to find links faster)

Josh Pit by HoodedBale 2021-04-26T16:42:56Z

That was Zed-tacular bro! Very funny and fun game. The graphics have a cool cardboard cutout style I dig. Stuff like the animated logo and victory screen really give polish that you don't always get to see in game jams. Loved building up extreme speed with the I pose and the chaos that is the X pose. I did get a bug though when I died just next to the hole. The body left behind (although a great touch!) blocked it.

The purpose of a worm by Eximir 2021-05-06T11:13:07Z

So cute ! The voice acting was really nice and not intrusive at all. There was a very storybook aesthetic that I loved. There really was a sense of progression and narrative that made me wish the game was longer.

Mind Hunter by Hotpaw 2021-04-26T12:41:16Z

Well done for making a very pretty and intriguing game! I'm glad I came across it. I suppose like trying to actually understand the mind of a murderer, it's difficult. I spent a couple of minutes trying combinations and listening for audio cue differences. Like all puzzles, sometimes it just clicks, sometimes it doesn't. Perhaps it's the best use of the theme because not only is it original but also too deep?

Mind Hunter by Hotpaw 2021-04-26T13:41:41Z

@hotpaw **"Just game dev things"**, it sounds like you had a fun time creating the game!

The Witching Hour by DamonWakes 2021-04-26T16:22:28Z

I really like this. World-building and writing are well done. The focus isn't really on branching narratives but figuring out the "puzzle" which was a great aha moment for me. Plus it fits the theme extremely well. I love the introduction that you only really understand in subsequent playthroughs. And play through I did, I think I got all possible endings. I'm just gonna go ahead and say it; thanks Satan!
