LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Fat and Furry-ous by Tex Killer 2021-04-30T00:00:40Z

I like th hand drawn style in the menus, but also the simple models in game. I have to admit I'm a little fat kid at heart so I immedaitely ate all the cheese, and didn't realize I was to avoid them at first. good job!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deep-fry Deeper by Ithildin 2021-04-29T20:36:09Z

Plays SOOOO smooth. You don't need me to tell you that the graphics and sound were really top notch, but here I am saying it anyhow. I had some churros the other day, but I really miss getting the read bean filled ones from this weird fusion place a few cities over. dipped in belgian chocolate.... omg.. I played on stream here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Photographic Memory by hadesfury 2021-04-29T19:49:29Z

controls and how to play felt a little unclear, definitely held me back from continuing to go much further. The ambitions behind this play style I think make that all worth it though, because when you're trying something new like this you're gonna hut more hurdles than the folks making clones. If controls and goals were more clearly conveyed in-game, this could be a very sweet little thing. especially dug the graphics, everything had a very nice mood about it. I played it on stream here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Antrum by killthealias 2021-04-29T20:29:09Z

nailed an interesting mood, got some very rad models and art, and the controls felt very solid. Wasn't quite sure I understood how the grappling hook should be working, but was cool nonetheless. pretty impressive how much was done here in time for the jam. I played it here on stream: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Daive Dangerous by kpded 2021-04-29T19:53:32Z

I didn't get very far to try the full breadth of mechanics, but I could see a lot of potential in the game up front. Felt pretty stable from what I played, and I think if I was playing it multiplier or sometghing I might be more engaged. At no fault of your own I just wasn't as compelled to keep playing, as I'm sure this kind of thing is TOTALLY rad for lots of other folks. Was cool to see how damaged engines change the stability of the ship! I played it on stream here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Super Debt Speedrun by Stejkrobot 2021-04-29T19:45:34Z

hella weird vibes here, got some good laughs outta me, espcially with that Friends TV. Models and art were solid, love the retro look, felt very accurate and true. Same thing with the audio, that compressed af audio sound was perfect. was pretty difficult throwing things in that cart when I kept auto-grabbing it, could maybe be changed to E for grab and ungrab cart. genuinely felt like I was going into debt, as I am known to throw lots of PCs into a cart and swipe credit cards willy mf nilly. working scoreboard also dope af. (gameplay streamed here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s )

Into the Storm by Vladadamm 2021-05-02T20:01:09Z

The actual flying mechanic felt very responsive. I liked how I was able to get a handle of how to play immediately, and that the goal of the game was very clearly communicated to me with the design itself, instead of needing some excessive "How to play" section (I'm guilty of this myself hahaha). I also really enjoyed the overal FEEL of it, the sound and animation, all that really lent to an engaging experience. I would love to play more of a game like this, with more world to explore, some variation in challenges. I got through the lightning bit but that's where I failed. Putting me back at the start and having to sit through the cutscenes definitely put me off from trying again. Overall really solid mood and gameplay, good job m8.

Happy Digger by Panagiotis Iatrou 2021-04-29T20:50:08Z

favorite game of the jam so far. love the soundtrack, love the graphics, but goddamn the best part here is the simple gameloop and controls that just feel SOOOO good. I'm not sure if I was misunderstanding something but there were instances in which I was trying to sell my minerals and it deducted money from me instead of giving me money--- is that right? Do some minerals dock you? anyhow, really loved this, very sweet. I played it on stream here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Outbreaks by Nakami 2021-04-29T20:04:27Z

First off I can't really see how this relates to the theme, or if it was trying to at all? I'm curious if you did intend to tie into the theme if maybe I just misunderstood. The visuals were pretty solid and I actually really enjoyed the idea of using all these different characters at the same time. I've never played anything like that before, and that's definitely worth checking out! I played it on stream here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Clockwork Abyss by Alexascher 2021-04-29T20:33:57Z

art style here is so good. glad to see the gameplay and mechanics held up against it (so many pretty games don't play well!) Understanding how things work was intuitive and clear, I really appreciate that. I think the one critique I can give is that it felt a little slow, and the action of it I think could feel more intense considering the stakes of the situation. Dream Diver by Stephen Scott Day 2021-04-30T00:16:02Z

@meeblyglort thanks, I didn't model the train station but hopefully it was pleasant for more than just that :)

@mrchambers very much appreciated, I am polishing it up and adding in a few things to release once the jam is over. soundtrack by the brilliant Sonny Wong!

@giangero And how!

@duck-reaction I'm glad you think you liked it :P Soundtrack was by Sonny Wong, and it was fun for me to program how the music pitch shifted and faded in different tracks depending on how deep you go. Was indeed meant to look like a weird dream, so thank you! Did you watch the How to Play? It's included in the Windows build, but also there's a link in the description for people playing the webGL version--- it's just a high score game, keep going deeper, nothing fancy!

@aidanmarkham Thank you very much for the kind words. Soundtrack was by Sonny Wong, which I then just pitch shifted based on level progression, then faded in the orchestral version as well. And yea, definitely gets harder and harder!

Dream Diver by Stephen Scott Day 2021-04-30T00:18:43Z

@ithildin thank you very very much! yea, it can be nearly impossible to maintain once you start falling back. maybe rage quit genre? :P I'm glad the mechanic was clear to you, I worked very hard to make this potentially confusing game as clear as possible. Seriously, thank you for all the kind words. If ya dug it, keep an eye out for a version with some extra goodies once the jam is over next month!

Dream Diver by Stephen Scott Day 2021-05-01T00:11:09Z

@whysguy52 hmmm not sure why you couldn't move, this is the first time something like that has been reported, thanks for the heads up, I will keep an eye out! If you're playing in browser, perhaps you clicked out of screen or tabbed out or something? Hard to say without having been there! Or were you playing the downloaded version?

Dream Diver by Stephen Scott Day 2021-05-01T00:17:36Z

@brandon-orden wowwowo thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you got that frantic feelings, I very much enjoy making games in which your palms get a little sweaty. Also yea the bodies riddled in darts also get me too 😂😂😂 thanks for playing and if you're interested it's likely I will be releasing a version of this with a little more polish and new features sometime next month!

@okamit yea kind of a bug, the "running man" pickup usually needs you to press the shift key (which isn't said anywhere, my fault) but also sometimes automatically kicks in if you go up or down a dream. The blue NPCs disappearing however is supposed to happen, that's another pickup which helps you find the target more easily but at the expense of being able to collect more sedative/pickups. I've heard some other folks being confused by that as well, maybe I should add some kind of effect to make it more clearly intentional. I am very glad you were able to enjoy yourself and thanks for the kind words!I am indeed going to be releasing a more polished version with some more features sometime in May, so keep an eye out! Thank you!

Into the DEEP by Alex the Bear 2021-04-29T20:09:53Z

yes yes yes the flamingo, universal praise for the drunkard. diving was aggressively difficult, felt like Bennett Foddy. had fun playing this, if even for just a few moments. played on stream here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Infernal Jam by HiddenTavern 2021-04-29T20:07:00Z

got a laugh outta me. also let me excerise all the contempt I have for wildly innaccurate estimations of ones capabilities. bravo. loved how ridiculously specific it got. also, I played it on stream here: https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s

Dwarven Depths by steelax 2021-04-29T19:56:14Z

I don't feel comfortable enough leaving ratings because I didn't give this game enough time / get far enough. I fell off the edge in the beginning and had to repeat the whole opening sequence, and because there are just so many games to play I had to take the L and just move on. It looks like a lot of hard work was put into this game, hopefully that one thing doesn't stop too many folks and at least you can patch it up easily I'm sure.

Mermaid Deep by mech_alina 2021-04-29T19:37:54Z

still pretty blown away by the pixel art and music, being your first time doing pixel art and all that. I dig the pay off of charging up the swim as you collect things but it was a little frustrating waiting for swim to charge at the very beginning. could maybe automatically get full charge when grounded? also very funny and charming, ending made me laugh out loud (as see on the stream!) https://youtu.be/exZFt8U6w5s
