Alright so I think the core mechanic is broken. The fat meter is just constantly going up, even when I don't eat anything, so it always ends in a loss.

tex-killer 2017-12-05 13:57

@ilseroth, I can't reproduce that, sorry. Can you tell me how to make that happen? And thank you very much for playing! :D

ilseroth 2017-12-05 14:02

@tex-killer it happened both times I tried to play the game. No matter what I do the fat meter increases endlessly until the broom hits me, even if I avoid all the cheese orbs

tex-killer 2017-12-05 14:52

@ilseroth, I think I got it. I was using the "A" key during debug testing to "simulate" eating a cheese, and forgot to disable that for the final build. I hadn't noticed it before because I was testing using the arrow keys instead of WASD... :P

I removed that now, so can you download and try the game again? Thank you very much either way!

furiouswitch 2017-12-10 02:43

Good game! The idea is good and it is fun to play but it ended too soon. It needed more content.

The game idea has high potential. You already developed the main mechanics. You could easily add different types of collectibles and obstacles which could extend its playing time much more and make it more fun too.

But all in all nice game. Congratulations :)

tex-killer 2017-12-10 20:03

Thank you, @furiouswitch! As usual, I didn't have enough time to add more content. I barely got what is there working before the time was out, and the mouse and cheese didn't even get propper textures.

I still didn't have time to start rating games, but once I do yours will be the first! I see you made one for LD #39 too, good job! :D

luvinicius 2017-12-13 15:08

Nice game! Nice gameplay, sounds, graphics and core mechanic. I loved the art style.

I think it's a good casual game. You can make it works well for mobile too, probably if you add more controls.

A tip is try to introduce one game mechanic at time. You could make a fast first level without the wheel and introduce it in the second level.

gassasin 2017-12-27 20:35

I love the art style :) Great game !

tex-killer 2017-12-28 00:42

Thanks, guys!

@luvinicius, we didn't have enough time to create multiple levels, but if we did we would have done that.

Thank you all for playing!

bryceltaylor 2017-12-28 16:00

Fun! I love that it is secretly an object avoidance game, especially when you get that speed boost for eating a cheese ball, it makes you think you should get them at first. Tricky. I really like the art style, both in the 2d menu and in the actual game. My only complaint is that the wheel is a trap and you can't get out of it. The broom just will get you. Also, I love that you're running from a broom. Great job!

tex-killer 2017-12-28 16:09

@brycetaylor, thank you very much for playing and for the feedback! :D

Yeah, that was my goal when I programmed the cheese. :P

The wheel wasn't supposed to be a trap, you can use it to burn some fat and leave before the broom gets you, but we didn't have enough time for the level design, so the wheel ended up too hard to use and survive.

remco 2017-12-28 16:42

_(Hi @tex-killer, are you the same as the one I played with 'Rude Bear Rabble' with? I was 'Bremco' there.)_

In any case... The music in your game is just spot on! I loved the purposefully dissonant menu-tune and the friendly credits-jingle.

The graphics have that nice, home-made feel to them, without feeling like they're worse off for it.

Gameplay-wise there are some balance-issues I think: Try as I might, I basically always fail if I eat even one cheese-ball. There just isn't enough time to burn off any fat on the wheel when that's happened.

tex-killer 2017-12-28 16:53

Hi, @remco! Yes, it was me! :P

After you left Rude Bear Rumble we reached a dead end, so you didn't miss much... haha

It is possible to eat the cheese ball(s) right before the wheel, enter the wheel, burn a little fat and leave without dying, but I admit it is harder than it was supposed to be.

Thank you very much for playing and for the feedback! :D

ambi 2017-12-28 18:42

I first thought the yellow balls were points to be collected. :D Very cool and simple game. Good job!

tex-killer 2017-12-29 00:14

Thank you very much for playing and for leaving feedback, @ambi! :D

corc0 2018-04-22 22:18

Game has a fun premise but definitely some balance issues. I'd love to see the cheese balls add a longer boost and for the Fat effect to be more linear - it seemed like I got exponentially fatter and fatter :)

Great art style! And the way you communicated game info was great (like the fat meter, distance from the wheel, broom chasing the rat, etc...)

remco 2018-04-23 06:00

@corc0 This was a game for LD#40, not #41, if you want to review old games, sure, but given the date I _really_ think you mean to review current games!

oscartrevejo 2018-04-24 00:05

Nice work lads! We also did a very original too, ye mid check it out?

jchaplin 2018-04-25 00:30

Nice game!

2018-08-07 16:32

I never figured out how to get off the wheel.

red-iron 2018-08-17 04:26

Nice!

crazyd 2018-08-18 17:58

Like everyone else, at first I thought I was supposed to eat the cheese. Even trying to avoid it, I can't seem to get very far...the broom comes and I'm done. Is there a mechanism to try to avoid the broom once it appears?

Music is awesome and perfect for setting the mood!

sun-wukong 2018-12-03 11:53

I still don't get if you supposed to eat cheese or avoid it.

wheatleyscience 2018-12-03 23:25

hi, it is a good idea but there is some negative sides about gameplay, first we need borders for floor, i can not run in the upper line and lower line but there is not any border. and i don't get the motivation of wheel, even if i get there without chasing(because i will get fat and chased) i can not use it, because of time consumtion. but still idea is good. good work :)

vlad-dae 2018-12-04 19:39

Where is sacrificing? Just mouse that can't eat yellow orbs) But sounds are good)

mordokay 2018-12-10 20:14

This game has all the right components in place. Good mouse animations, nice menu with well drawn UI buttons and a great sound. Would have loved to see more obstacles (like different types of ground that slowed the mouse) and the replacement of the sphere cheese placeholder with a blender model of actual cheese.

The first 2 times I played I thought the spheres were like coins where you had to grab as much as you could so I kept dying super fast. After that avoiding the cheese was actually very easy to do.

Good game and good job!

sozey 2018-12-26 09:50

That was a fun little game, I made it to the end after a few tries by not eating any cheese. The sounds were really nice and I liked that eating cheese actually made the mouse fatter!

commanderstitch 2019-05-01 01:12

Wow, can't rate it? huh. I didn't know you weren't supposed to eat the cheeeeeese. Then I beat it. ah HA!

suchista 2019-05-02 15:06

The game is super fun, I love the idea that you can see all your progress at the top, the mouse is super cute and you did very good job with the graphics, the mouse is getting fatter and bigger and then it can get fit again, player is able to avoid the cheese but it is not too easy, so the game is very well done. My only question is: what about the theme? But anyway, the game is great, congrats!

simonl 2019-10-08 22:09

The web version is apparently not reachable

landosilva 2020-10-07 01:31

At first I thought I had to eat those yellow balls, so I was kinda confused. Everything leaded me to think it was good to eat it. And when I figure out I must avoid, it was a bit easy to reach the end. Though, the atmosphere was nice and fun. Congratz!

jamster 2020-10-07 01:39

@tex-killer Did you *actually* forget to disable the auto fatness mechanic, or did it just not work? I used Debug.IsDebug() in my game, and it flatly didn't work when I deployed to web.

Anyways, I thought this was super fun. I watched my girlfriend play and fail several times, but it was obvious that you simply needed to avoid cheese until late. It took me one try. I think people need to play this to learn an important life lesson -- you don't have you stuff your fat face with cheese all the time.

Clearly, you need more levels, I'm guessing you ran out of time. It should be easy to create levels, and I really don't think you even need more prefabs than what you have, just wheels and cheese placed at different intervals.

Good art, fun gameplay, I want more.

LMAO just noticed she necroed a game from 7 jams ago

dk5000p 2020-10-26 19:20

The wheel part seemed a little pointless cause entering the wheel basically would lead to a loss. The only way to win was to avoid all the cheese. The music was good. The graphics were readable but the gameplay needed a little more.

kovalok 2021-04-28 05:56

Fun little game. It was little misleading that you should actually try avoid the cheese. But overall very nice :)

stephen-scott-day 2021-04-30 00:00

I like th hand drawn style in the menus, but also the simple models in game. I have to admit I'm a little fat kid at heart so I immedaitely ate all the cheese, and didn't realize I was to avoid them at first. good job!

gamescodedogs 2021-05-13 17:06

Cool mouse, cool game))))

kingslee142 2021-10-06 20:33

I really like the idea, the little mouse eating all this cheese is pretty fun. The music also goes well with the overall vibe. Nice!

chillertyp 2021-10-09 16:26

Looks pretty mice! ^^

puddingzserem 2022-04-07 07:36

Very fun game, it has a nice funny vibe. I also got misled by fat making you go faster. Alas, it was a trap! >:D Has a very goot potential as a timekiller, great job! :D

slecornu 2022-04-14 21:12

I really like the music and menu art style!

tex-killer 2022-09-30 13:38

Thanks everyone for playing it and for giving feedback!

This game was submitted back in 2017, but for some reason people come back to rate it every Jam. If you're rating games for the current Jam you might want to make sure the game is a current submission :)
