Quite good for a two day quest. Great art and music, and sory/dialogues are funny.

Window on itch.io is too tiny - may something be done to fix it? There were multipple buttons on the guitar with the same letter - are they interchangeable?

Could use more innovative gameplay. Pretty much all music-related games are about "press the prompted button", and that's sad. I dunno if it's possible to make a game that actually represents the proces of creative composing? Or make the performing part less railroaded. Like, emphasis this part of the song or another, direct it into someone in auditory etc. Of cause, this stuff is way too complex for a LD format, but those are things that keep returning to my head for a long time, and this game made me remember them.

iluvatar 2023-10-02 17:29

@baturinsky Thank you for playing our game!

Unfotunately we are not able to make the window bigger, but you should use ALT + ENTER to fullscreen.

I agree with the innnovation, but we really didn't have time for that. We wanted to go with a traditional point and click adventure with a little puzzle in it. I bet our music guy Dan Kobylarz would love to make a game about composing music haha. This was really more about the atmosphere, humor and MEEETTTAAALLL :)

It's heavy metal, so it must be good and from the art pov it definitely is. Audio deserves at least 5 and half stars. As a game it fails a bit, few clicks and music minigame. BTW I got stuck a bit there, cause I automatically expected that I have to press keys on keyboard / expected I have to press them at specified time, not just in correct sequence.

adam-gould 2023-10-02 21:46

The presentation (visuals and audio) are some of the best I've seen in a Ludum Dare game. Absolutely brilliant. 🤘

Gameplay wise, the point-and-click adventure part was better than the music minigame IMHO - the fact you don't actually have to play the notes in the rhythm meant that they sounded a bit messy.

As I have not played it a third time, I cannot make my usual thought out critique for your game... and my game might be finished next weekend so I can't rate either yet. So I try to connect this game to the rest of yours (as far as I know them). ... After the devestating war against the Homunculi Breed, that take place more than a century ago, a young woman Trinity gets into cosmic trouble, because she lied to a friend. The blood ritual allowed monstrous creatures to migrate from Hell to Earth, not to destroy mankind but to live among them. After countless "nutrition" & car accidents people decided to get rid of the monsters, so they created robots & cyborgs. Just an interresting century later, being a cyborg was the norm, although the implants had their own disadvantages and there were a lot of major problems with economy and society, e.g. so called "mutants" became the outcasts of society. The history of mankind went on, so once fashionable technologies come and go, in one era there were majestic giant machines that were maintained by small teams of technicians, just to be replaced by an complete robotized economy that is based around recycling, because of resource depletion. The need for new resources brought mankind finally to the stars, leaving cyborgs, monsters, robots, demons, clones and all the other BS behind them. Such trailblazer might got lost every now and then, even some manage to return to civilization ... one brought the first Xegorg to earth, this was such a great idea, that every spacefarer was ordered to eleminate every xegorg on sight, in order to prevent more of them reaching earth. This attempt failed one day (which will be the topic of one of your future games) so the Xegorg reached and changed earth. Millenia later a lone Hero ventured into the dark forest to meet the power of the crystal, which could bring back the rule of mankind over their former homeworld. So Trinity seems to be a essential puzzle piece, you have to know... but there was one of here forefathers, a true hero and brilliant general, who once upon a time saved a Kingdom. Maybe it would have benn better GOD told her to learn to code and give up music ... and maybe that lying might cause problems that might escalate a little bit.

@oillen Woaaah, thank you Oillen for your amazing short story haha

veridis 2023-10-03 12:56

Very good voice acting! I found the note minigame a bit clunky but the idea and setting is cool!

vincent89 2023-10-03 13:03

@shigor @adam-gould @veridis Thank you very much for playing it

kabura 2023-10-03 13:04

woah, the art is amazing! as some already wrote, the window is very tiny, especially problematic for point and click games haha. but besides that, great entry!!

arzi 2023-10-03 17:44

Oh, wow, my favourite music genre combined with my favourite game genre! And with top-notch execution to boot! I only wish the game would have been longer, but obviously, it's understandable there's only so much time with production quality like that. A longer game with more nuanced guitar playing mechanics (support for those old Guitar Hero plastic toys gathering dust in everyone's closets?) would be METAL :metal:

cosmogonicfrog 2023-10-03 18:21

I love this old-school style of point-and-click, even down to the black outlined text. Very Deponia-esque! As other's have said, the music and voice acting are on point too. I agree that the mini-game was a little bit lacking however and I was surprised that rhythm wasn't a factor but I also understand that synching gameplay and sound can be tricky.

Nice job!

jiri-hysek 2023-10-03 18:53

You rock :metal: I saw the "Soul Eater" on the stream making this awesome graphics so I knew whats coming but the rest is stunning too. I love the whole metal setting, music and a little story about it. It's also funny. And complete voiceover with several "actors"?! In a game jam... wow! You have surely used some metal magic here!

sven-schoeling 2023-10-03 20:21

You put the rest of us to shame with that graphics and sound.

ludumdaredevil 2023-10-04 22:33

The art and music are awesome!

conradoclark 2023-10-05 00:46

As others have said, awesome voice acting. Great original soundtrack, and you nailed the whole point and click game feel. With improved guitar minigame mechanics, I could see this evolving to a very cool full fledged game. The visuals are extremely polished, and well, top marks in the audio department.

The mood is great and I like the touches of humor here and there. Really, really impressive, great job!

picross 2023-10-05 05:51

Wow! First time I've seen a Lucasarts style adventure game done for LD! This is super cool. The music shreds. If I had one piece of critical feedback it would be that there weren't any "real" puzzles like in a typical adventure game--would love to see some trickier gameplay in a future version! Wonderful game and full of personality. Fantastic work!

t-c 2023-10-05 06:40

Nice job, great work on the art and sound!

lucydango 2023-10-05 06:44

These visuals and the music are so astounding for the limited time! Great job fr

septimor 2023-10-06 16:23

Just here to tell you: You did an amazing game! For a moment i forgot that it was a game for Ludum Dare! It reminded me of " Not Tonight " with graphings and voice acting, but your music overall: top tier! Well Done! 5 Stars across the board!

caryoscelus 2023-10-06 21:30

don't cut your hand! you'll have to use it for playing!

anyway, great art and music!

lereveur 2023-10-07 22:43

P'n'C are my favorite games, and this old school pixel art one is well executed, you guys rocks, good job!

lincolnsalles 2023-10-09 18:36

As I like metal and rock in general, I really liked it, even though I don't like too much dialogue in games, the audio of the voices is brilliant, the pixel art graphics are absurd, really very incredible and deserves top marks. But when it got to the part about the joke about God and the devil, the blood pact and such, I didn't like the joke. But it was just something personal. God couldn't help, but the devil did. I didn't think this was cool personally, but I get the joke. I'm a fan of God and I don't like the devil (even though I like rock), so I preferred to stop there. But the art and everything is really amazing.

fabula-rasa 2023-10-11 18:48

Now, this is my kind of music! Voice acting also rocks . Really, all the audio direction in the game is great. Pixel graphics are nice - although personally I don't like the "faceless faces" fashion - and the animations are smooth and well-made.

The story is amusing and I even laughed a few times. Gameplay is easy, but it's fun enough for the duration of the game. The whole thing is well-polished and really crafted with love (for meeeeetal :metal_tone5:). Well done!

scarytreegames 2023-10-17 19:43

The game is funny and some moments made me laugh. The art and soundtrack are excellent. A good representative of the quest genre!

pkenney 2023-10-18 04:52

Fabulous polish! Art, music, and voice-acting were all super-impressive.

evermoon 2023-10-19 07:13

Cool arts

sleepystudios 2023-10-20 15:50

Absolutely insane level of polish. Loved the tunes, loved the graphics and loved that there was a clean easy story as old as time (praying to Satan for help with guitar skills). There was A LOT of dialogue and very little gameplay but both parts were still equally enjoyable in their own rights so nice work!
