It's heading in a interesting direction. The gameplay reminds me of Ghost Trick: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ghost-trick-phantom-detective/id489113377?mt=8

Even as simplistic as it is, graphically speaking, the mood is great and the concept is very interesting.
Very polished. Liked the idea of being able to topple the tree. It adds a different twist to the old formula.
Whoa, the pixel art on this one made me check your other submissions. It's really good!. I'm not sure if the earthquakes work as a gameplay mechanic. Reminds me of when Endermen where first introduced in Minecraft and started destroying everything making everyone upset.
The environment dangers (like dinos or lava) sound fun and have a lot of potential to differentiate the game from other sandboxes.
Your lava engine looks really cool! did you write it from scratch? I would love to read more on how it works.
Reminds me of Wario! Great game, I kept coming back to beat them all! :D
Good game, I think I explored all options with interesting outcomes. Liked the art, I think it suits the mood. Wish it was longer! :)
Really difficult but the gameplay is rewarding. Would have liked to see more patterns for the bullets (i know, asking that of a 48 comp is crazy) and maybe shorter lasers.
The controls fail to respond a bit when double tapping too fast. Liked the coin system a lot though it felt overly generous; I got most upgrades early on. the timing for the levels is excellent. Good decision on focusing on gameplay mechanics.
Visually speaking, the potato is a bit out of place but the atari-like visuals and sounds fit the mechanics very well. I found the concept of finding as many different solutions as possible for the same level innovative. It feels the ability to jump may share too much in common with double jump.
Wow, it already looked pretty cool, but it was better once I started to play! Loved the music, the simple mechanics and the combos. :D
Fantastic game! I also see it doing well in touch devices :) it was great meeting you last night and hope you keep working on it!
Great game! My only critique would be the controls. I played the web version and there were a bit too many keys being used (jumping with the space seems more intuitive than the up key. etc). But overall, loved it, loved the graphics, loved the sounds, loved everything about it!
Good quality on the graphics. Cool to see the effects of gravitational forces on the asteroid.
Loved the control mechanics. Maybe a pickup that adds speed to the ball? the extra bounce is not enough to make the game last longer than a few mins without losing.
Normally these type of games are not my thing but this one is very good. The color scheme, retro sounds and beautiful and tasteful animations won me over. Definitively one of the best overall.
Would have liked to try a bit slower and trickier levels where the goal is more about attempting to predict the path. The current gravity system makes me feel is simply unpredictable.
Pretty neat! Liked the graphics and the sounds :)
would love to try it out on mac
Good feel on the hitbox and spacing of asteroids. A bit of sound would have gone a long way.
Nice. You only get… one gun?
Need to step out, but I'm coming back for more!!! Amazing game! Glove slapping was my favorite :D
Good game. I liked the progression on the difficulty levels. Would have liked to stay on each level, or a reset button instead of going back to the menu every time :)
Wow that's interesting! Loved the changing keys idea! And the graphic style is very fun.
Great graphics and love the rhythm mechanics. And high-five for Unity! :)
Amazing graphics, loved the mechanics, and a very unique take on the theme!
The graphics are tight. Fits the theme very well. I wish I could see what it's inside but it gets really difficult by the end!
Could have used a few sound clips of santa screaming things at you as he passes by ;)
Throwing a wild guess out there: the idea was to make the player feel the anxiety of loosing your ticket just before the bus arrives. To be honest it does feel kinda like that.
On the other hand I found it quite funny for how overblown it is for a such a trivial thing like loosing your ticket.
Loved the art. The controls were a bit funky, but I enjoyed it! :D
What a beautiful game! I can see myself coming back to play it many times :) awesome job!
The linked binary downloads an empty file from dropbox.
Can't pass level two due to getting stuck on walls. Was hoping to get to the end :(
I feel the level design could have benefited with a more vertical approach in leu of long horizontal stretches. Even when taking into consideration the 'speed' rails. I'm talking about making almost every screenful a mini puzzle.
The art direction was heading in a very interesting direction. The floating bots remind me of Mega Man designs.
Loved the game. A good message, great graphics, loved the ambient music and the mood. :)
This is the funniest LD28 submission I've found so far. I also had a lot of fun guessing which item would work for each task. Did the Japanese come from google translate?
Moving game, loved the music, the story... everything... I am playing it a second time, and I think I will another time after that. :D it reminded me of Papers Please, one of my favorite games right now!
Hi Scifer! The idea is that each dignitary gets only one slice of cake. If any one gets more than a single slice they go on a wacky genocidal rampage. So it's the player saying "you only get one"... piece of cake.
thanks for commenting!
Thanks to everyone who rated/commented/critiqued. We are very happy with the result (still working on the mobile version coming soon!). See you all in April! :)
The graphics and audio are excellent. Together they create a great atmosphere that fits a game of this type very well.
It seems the gameplay is a bit reliant on trial-an-error since there isn't enough information available to make a good decision. Maybe I'm missing a vital clue.
It left me craving for more! great work!
The visual feedback on the action is spot on! playing this on a vibration-enabled controller must be awesome. The AI is pretty effective. The difficulty curve could ramp up a bit more slower since the small area gets pretty crazy in 20 secs flat. Most importantly, it is pretty fun!
I think of all the games I've played I spent the most time on this one. Very good tribute to classics while spicing the now worn mechanics of old JRPGs. I had to restart a couple of times due to choosing lineups that made the game so hard that I don't think were winnable even with all the health upgrades.
The humor is good while not getting in the way. The music is downright perfect for this type of game and the mood also gets extra points. I'm starting to think this could pass as a Gameboy rom! and this is a 48 hour comp entry? wow
Loved the mechanics (an aim guide would make it better), loved the puzzles and the graphics are gorgeous. Would love to play a longer version! Great job!
Great weapons. At first I thought the blade was a bit overpowered then I went to a higher difficulty and realized how wrong I was. This game pulls at the strings of what makes a good game: it's fun.
Poignant, beautiful, it really gives the feeling of night diving; the disorientation, the vastness of what one floats in. The mood was perfect, the music too. The only critique I have is about the GUI. A bit too big and took away from the field of vision. I wouldn't say it was too slowly. Diving isn't a fast pastime! Amazing work!
One of my favorite games in this ludum dare! Beautiful art, the style is amazing! I like the attention to little details, especially the way the characters seem to glide in the air when going up hills. I really liked that the sounds are very repetitive, and towards the end you really want to finish the game so the scouts can stop singing! Very enjoyable. Not too hard, not too easy. Overall, c'est génial!!
Lots of stars on the mood, graphics and humor. Specially on the graphics. Liked how the story wraps on itself with the liars and health records.
Beautiful game, no doubt. Very entertaining, and frustrating (I like those). Great replayability, too. Still going at it!
I second the opinion of allowing you to continue on the last level you died instead of doing everything all over again. GREAT atmosphere. From the art direction to the dirty sound effects I was being pulled into this little hostile alien world.
Ok, this was waaaaaaay more fun than I was expecting. The music was in tune with the mechanics. Love the ASCII. Great work!
Your blog directed me here. Loved the art and liked the concept. It was a very good submission for the 48 compo, congratulations!
Funnily enough on my first play, second time using the grapple I got the diamond!. Clever use of the mechanics. The effects are quite polished and the graphics are beautiful.
The web version has artifacts on Safari + OSX 10.9.2. Luckily the native version worked just fine.
Wow, this has to be one of my favorites so far! Amazing graphics, mechanics, sounds. Makes me wonder how it would look for touch devices... (hint hint)
Interesting, most of my replays lasted 2 to 3 turns. Is that average? because they felt a bit short. I like the camera effect very much and looks great with the intro and the music but I'm not sure it works as well with the pixelated background during gameplay. Cheers!
The emotion reader was a pretty good idea. It provides the same mechanic that LA Noir was using on the suspects faces in an unambiguous way.
I played Cure the Infected last time. Nice to see your work again. I must say I'm impressed by the amount of content and the atmosphere on this one. The moment I surfaced from an underwater ravine and saw a little town in the distance I had to recheck this was a 48 comp submission. I'll come back again after rating some others to play some more, lots of fun.
Fun little game! I killed my friend on the first try... oh well... :/
I was taken off guard by the 'hero'… Is that a chick in a skirt with a cat head? loved it!
Wow, I can't believe no one has commented on this one yet! It's pretty cool! Loved the art, absolutely beautiful. I dug in no particular order and felt the game ended too soon! Will go back to it and dig what I missed :D Great work!
Top notch graphics, theme and, maybe I misinterpreted it; but, a bit funny. I second the feeling of not winning unless I get no casualties at the end.
Thanks Shigor for the suggestion and sorry about that! We did find a way of doing it, but we ran out of time. We will keep it in mind for the future.
@xensky I know right?! You can tell that cats have a plan for silent domination in Dwarf Fortress. 1. Grow your numbers. 2. Make dwarfs grow attached. 3. Catsplosion.
@Penguincat @jacklehamster Yeah, we had initially planned to make like 8 levels, including Castlevania, Mega Man and others and wanted to have much more complex dialog and 'investigation' mechanics. But we fell for the trap of doing things we've never done before (dialogue system for one) and time went by really fast.
Thanks for playing and commenting!
@lowcade
Definitively would have liked to put some music and sounds when the character walks. Specially on the Dig Dug level! (: Thanks for the comment.
@GrooveMan I agree that it has become a cliche of sorts but we wanted to indulge a bit on this submission and laugh at the nonsense that permeated the classics. Good point though.
@xdegtyarev thanks! I was precisely looking for noir soundtracks that fit the theme. Then bugs came out of their dark holes and ate all the time we had :)
Thanks so much to everyone who voted. We had a lot of fun this time and we got our first award too! We'll be sure to come back. Thanks!
Great game! The fact that I didn't initially know what the red globes would do was a fun surprise. I thought the controls were a bit weird in the beginning but soon got used to them. All in all, awesome!
Loved it! The sound effects are hilarious. Great replayability, great use of the theme, and hard enough to be fun. Great work!
Is there more than one ending?
Very nice arcade game. Beautiful. Controls were good. I wasn't bothered by the lack of music (maybe on the title screen only?). I liked the sound effects as the background noise. Good job!
Woah! this really caught me off guard! Amazing concept, little bits of emergent behavior and oddly satisfying reactions to my actions as a player. The sounds match the style very well and every click felt purposeful. I personally liked how it ended, the tone and the last thing you see as the text rolls out.
Would love to see other works in the future!
Now, that was fun! Loved the art, too. Funny, the title made me think of Kill La Kill! I was watching it right before I started ludum dare :D Anyway, awesome game!
Loved it! I like the fact the belt only has two speeds. More challenging this way. Great replayability, too. The sounds were great! My only complaint is the button to stop the belt sometimes becomes unresponsive after playing for a while. Amazing game, tho!
A good atmosphere and good pace on the story. Liked very much the take on the theme and the graphics. I also hat issues with the chase and would've preferred keyboard controls. Great submission!
This is crazy! I love it. We were laughing on every room we played. The style is very coherent on every aspect.
Very beautiful title screen. Would love to play it when it's done!
A lot of cursing happened in my living room :D fun stuff!
I got stuck on a platform :( but anyway, the graphics are very cute, the story is adorable. Love the dialogue!
I love this one! Great job. Lots of fun, very pleasing graphics and a greta concept.!
Great concept! Reminds me of some games in the 90s.
Reminded me of Tie Fighter. Great mood.
Marjie62: Yes, the faces are related to choosing the right/wrong things. Some choices are received badly, others are received positively. Headlines give a clue on what is the best choice is at the moment :)
Deathray: hey! Thanks for stopping by. Sadly, we are using Unity 4.6 and it doesn't have a web player yet (beta stuffs). It has to do with the new UI :( sorry about that!
Update! we added the web version. Hopefully it works for you regardless of the warning message on top of the screen.
This is amazing!! This is just a big bag of awesome in all respects. Congrats!!
I really liked this one! I am surprised about the few comments! Liked the minimal style, the concept was really clever, too. Took me a while to get used to the controls but totally worth it. Great job!
Great puzzle game. Very smart and a great take on the theme. Would love to play a more finished version! Great job!
This one has a lot of potential :D Loved the graphics and the story. For a jam game looks pretty cool!
