LD28 — You Only Get One

Rick and The Ghost by TheGamingProject 2013-12-31T23:48:00

It's heading in a interesting direction. The gameplay reminds me of Ghost Trick: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ghost-trick-phantom-detective/id489113377?mt=8

Hatsumei Mage by OrangeeZ 2013-12-31T22:18:00

Even as simplistic as it is, graphically speaking, the mood is great and the concept is very interesting.

Elves' Eve by Elemental Zeal Games Studios 2014-01-01T03:05:00

Very polished. Liked the idea of being able to topple the tree. It adds a different twist to the old formula.

The Follower by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2013-12-31T04:44:00

Whoa, the pixel art on this one made me check your other submissions. It's really good!. I'm not sure if the earthquakes work as a gameplay mechanic. Reminds me of when Endermen where first introduced in Minecraft and started destroying everything making everyone upset.

The environment dangers (like dinos or lava) sound fun and have a lot of potential to differentiate the game from other sandboxes.

Your lava engine looks really cool! did you write it from scratch? I would love to read more on how it works.

Berathen Jam by Venks 2014-01-04T00:07:00

Reminds me of Wario! Great game, I kept coming back to beat them all! :D

Choices by madameberry 2013-12-17T20:06:00

Good game, I think I explored all options with interesting outcomes. Liked the art, I think it suits the mood. Wish it was longer! :)

You ONLY Get One Nuke by barret907k 2014-01-07T00:11:00

Really difficult but the gameplay is rewarding. Would have liked to see more patterns for the bullets (i know, asking that of a 48 comp is crazy) and maybe shorter lasers.

Sniper by pwnedu46 2013-12-17T19:21:00

Liked the level with the rock, it was creative... and then it ended too early! Good game :)

YOGO PATH by cesisco 2014-01-06T21:30:00

Wow, what a great game! The replayability is very good, the graphics are fantastic, the music, too. The randomized paths were also a lot of fun. Enjoyed it very much!

The Trials of Chad by Aaants 2013-12-20T22:44:00

The controls fail to respond a bit when double tapping too fast. Liked the coin system a lot though it felt overly generous; I got most upgrades early on. the timing for the levels is excellent. Good decision on focusing on gameplay mechanics.

SEINOU by Harsay 2013-12-20T23:05:00

Visually speaking, the potato is a bit out of place but the atari-like visuals and sounds fit the mechanics very well. I found the concept of finding as many different solutions as possible for the same level innovative. It feels the ability to jump may share too much in common with double jump.

Pizza Delivery Hero by Recursiveanomaly 2013-12-17T19:15:00

Wow, it already looked pretty cool, but it was better once I started to play! Loved the music, the simple mechanics and the combos. :D

Loops of Fate by Symmeteer 2013-12-17T18:48:00

Fantastic game! I also see it doing well in touch devices :) it was great meeting you last night and hope you keep working on it!

Life According To Bob by Ariake81 2013-12-17T21:45:00

Great game! My only critique would be the controls. I played the web version and there were a bit too many keys being used (jumping with the space seems more intuitive than the up key. etc). But overall, loved it, loved the graphics, loved the sounds, loved everything about it!

Stellar Delusion - LD28 - You Only Get One Planet! by wulfdesign 2014-01-06T23:42:00

Good quality on the graphics. Cool to see the effects of gravitational forces on the asteroid.

RetroBall by timothyolt 2013-12-31T22:33:00

Loved the control mechanics. Maybe a pickup that adds speed to the ball? the extra bounce is not enough to make the game last longer than a few mins without losing.

0RBITALIS by AlanZucconi 2014-01-07T01:13:00

Normally these type of games are not my thing but this one is very good. The color scheme, retro sounds and beautiful and tasteful animations won me over. Definitively one of the best overall.

Would have liked to try a bit slower and trickier levels where the goal is more about attempting to predict the path. The current gravity system makes me feel is simply unpredictable.

One Jump by Xanjos 2013-12-21T02:57:00

It's kinda funny how the player character sticks to walls. It allows for a bit of cheating. Good take on the theme.

The level I liked the best was the one before the final level (level 3?). It was much more about puzzle solving than trying to avoid the spikes.

Lost in Puzzle by ayame9joe 2013-12-17T20:31:00

Pretty neat! Liked the graphics and the sounds :)

One Step To Fail by NightDreamer 2013-12-31T23:21:00

would love to try it out on mac

One Fuel Tank/Rocket Awesomeness by bigmankyleo 2013-12-31T23:19:00

Good feel on the hitbox and spacing of asteroids. A bit of sound would have gone a long way.

Alligator Mayhem by midgety 2013-12-31T23:25:00

Nice. You only get… one gun?

Cat Gentlemans Play: Insult Spinner 10 Cents by RobotLovesKitty 2013-12-17T01:24:00

Need to step out, but I'm coming back for more!!! Amazing game! Glove slapping was my favorite :D

Key by Key by stefan 2014-01-04T00:16:00

Good game. I liked the progression on the difficulty levels. Would have liked to stay on each level, or a reset button instead of going back to the menu every time :)

Candy Runner by AtomicVikings 2013-12-17T23:07:00

Wow that's interesting! Loved the changing keys idea! And the graphic style is very fun.

One upgrade in heart by Tonasz 2013-12-17T18:39:00

Great graphics and love the rhythm mechanics. And high-five for Unity! :)

Monkey Rally by antila 2013-12-17T22:30:00

Amazing graphics, loved the mechanics, and a very unique take on the theme!

The Present by gingerBill 2013-12-17T00:57:00

The graphics are tight. Fits the theme very well. I wish I could see what it's inside but it gets really difficult by the end!

Could have used a few sound clips of santa screaming things at you as he passes by ;)

Bus Ticket by jamiedoughty 2014-01-01T02:39:00

Throwing a wild guess out there: the idea was to make the player feel the anxiety of loosing your ticket just before the bus arrives. To be honest it does feel kinda like that.

On the other hand I found it quite funny for how overblown it is for a such a trivial thing like loosing your ticket.

One Wish, No More ! by lsdlive 2014-01-03T23:42:00

Loved the art. The controls were a bit funky, but I enjoyed it! :D

Nature's Howl by louis.denizet 2014-01-04T00:00:00

What a beautiful game! I can see myself coming back to play it many times :) awesome job!

HOMELESS the Game by Azazel 2013-12-21T02:01:00

The linked binary downloads an empty file from dropbox.

Blight by bsowers 2013-12-17T00:44:00

The last level (I'm assuming 5?) is tough. Liked the feel of the controls. The bow may be a bit overpowered in comparison with the other weapons. Nice AI.

Sight by copperman32 2013-12-21T02:12:00

Can't pass level two due to getting stuck on walls. Was hoping to get to the end :(

Inversionaut by Andy Gainey 2014-01-07T00:19:00

I feel the level design could have benefited with a more vertical approach in leu of long horizontal stretches. Even when taking into consideration the 'speed' rails. I'm talking about making almost every screenful a mini puzzle.

The art direction was heading in a very interesting direction. The floating bots remind me of Mega Man designs.

You Are Disabled by Cory Martin 2013-12-17T19:43:00

Loved the game. A good message, great graphics, loved the ambient music and the mood. :)

You Only Get 1! by Danman9914 2013-12-21T02:27:00

This is the funniest LD28 submission I've found so far. I also had a lot of fun guessing which item would work for each task. Did the Japanese come from google translate?

Mama is Sick by JaymeeMak 2013-12-18T00:17:00

Moving game, loved the music, the story... everything... I am playing it a second time, and I think I will another time after that. :D it reminded me of Papers Please, one of my favorite games right now!

Space Diplomacy - You Only Get One by taocayo 2013-12-21T00:27:00

Hi Scifer! The idea is that each dignitary gets only one slice of cake. If any one gets more than a single slice they go on a wacky genocidal rampage. So it's the player saying "you only get one"... piece of cake.

thanks for commenting!

Space Diplomacy - You Only Get One by taocayo 2014-01-07T03:33:00

Thanks to everyone who rated/commented/critiqued. We are very happy with the result (still working on the mobile version coming soon!). See you all in April! :)

Bermuda by Scifer 2013-12-21T00:23:00

The graphics and audio are excellent. Together they create a great atmosphere that fits a game of this type very well.

It seems the gameplay is a bit reliant on trial-an-error since there isn't enough information available to make a good decision. Maybe I'm missing a vital clue.

It left me craving for more! great work!

Projectile 1 by diegomachado 2013-12-31T08:31:00

The visual feedback on the action is spot on! playing this on a vibration-enabled controller must be awesome. The AI is pretty effective. The difficulty curve could ramp up a bit more slower since the small area gets pretty crazy in 20 secs flat. Most importantly, it is pretty fun!

Moon's quest by JaJ 2013-12-31T23:34:00

I think of all the games I've played I spent the most time on this one. Very good tribute to classics while spicing the now worn mechanics of old JRPGs. I had to restart a couple of times due to choosing lineups that made the game so hard that I don't think were winnable even with all the health upgrades.

The humor is good while not getting in the way. The music is downright perfect for this type of game and the mood also gets extra points. I'm starting to think this could pass as a Gameboy rom! and this is a 48 hour comp entry? wow

Ultimate Wish by Carduus 2013-12-17T20:18:00

Loved the mechanics (an aim guide would make it better), loved the puzzles and the graphics are gorgeous. Would love to play a longer version! Great job!

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Burrow Down by danbo 2014-05-19T22:36:00

Great weapons. At first I thought the blade was a bit overpowered then I went to a higher difficulty and realized how wrong I was. This game pulls at the strings of what makes a good game: it's fun.

DEEPER by _adamturnbull 2014-04-29T01:37:00

Poignant, beautiful, it really gives the feeling of night diving; the disorientation, the vastness of what one floats in. The mood was perfect, the music too. The only critique I have is about the GUI. A bit too big and took away from the field of vision. I wouldn't say it was too slowly. Diving isn't a fast pastime! Amazing work!

Damned Scouts! by Lama 2014-04-30T03:06:00

One of my favorite games in this ludum dare! Beautiful art, the style is amazing! I like the attention to little details, especially the way the characters seem to glide in the air when going up hills. I really liked that the sounds are very repetitive, and towards the end you really want to finish the game so the scouts can stop singing! Very enjoyable. Not too hard, not too easy. Overall, c'est génial!!

Meddle by Pitƶik4 2014-05-19T22:48:00

The control scheme could be simplified but the concept is very interesting. I like the type of puzzles that can be made with this.

Agent Thursday by cageinabird 2014-05-20T00:41:00

Lots of stars on the mood, graphics and humor. Specially on the graphics. Liked how the story wraps on itself with the liars and health records.

Iron Rising by tripleVisionGames 2014-04-29T02:01:00

Beautiful game, no doubt. Very entertaining, and frustrating (I like those). Great replayability, too. Still going at it!

Deepeon by HacksawUnit 2014-05-02T22:08:00

I second the opinion of allowing you to continue on the last level you died instead of doing everything all over again. GREAT atmosphere. From the art direction to the dirty sound effects I was being pulled into this little hostile alien world.

PET RUN/STOP by Ludonaut 2014-04-29T00:57:00

Ok, this was waaaaaaay more fun than I was expecting. The music was in tune with the mechanics. Love the ASCII. Great work!

Sneak-Easy by allurious 2014-05-02T22:02:00

Your blog directed me here. Loved the art and liked the concept. It was a very good submission for the 48 compo, congratulations!

What Lies Beneath by Stuffie 2014-04-30T03:10:00

Funnily enough on my first play, second time using the grapple I got the diamond!. Clever use of the mechanics. The effects are quite polished and the graphics are beautiful.

The web version has artifacts on Safari + OSX 10.9.2. Luckily the native version worked just fine.

Balancitos by NickZangus 2014-04-29T19:10:00

Wow, this has to be one of my favorites so far! Amazing graphics, mechanics, sounds. Makes me wonder how it would look for touch devices... (hint hint)

Vaults Inc by Bruno Massa 2014-05-01T05:28:00

Interesting, most of my replays lasted 2 to 3 turns. Is that average? because they felt a bit short. I like the camera effect very much and looks great with the intro and the music but I'm not sure it works as well with the pixelated background during gameplay. Cheers!

Thought Police by GrooveMan 2014-05-20T00:22:00

The emotion reader was a pretty good idea. It provides the same mechanic that LA Noir was using on the suspects faces in an unambiguous way.

Troubles beneath the surface by archaeometrician 2014-04-30T00:47:00

I played Cure the Infected last time. Nice to see your work again. I must say I'm impressed by the amount of content and the atmosphere on this one. The moment I surfaced from an underwater ravine and saw a little town in the distance I had to recheck this was a 48 comp submission. I'll come back again after rating some others to play some more, lots of fun.

My Friend The Werewolf by AmmarAlsharekh 2014-04-29T01:50:00

Fun little game! I killed my friend on the first try... oh well... :/

Necronomicon by lowcade 2014-04-30T02:14:00

I was taken off guard by the 'hero'… Is that a chick in a skirt with a cat head? loved it!

PATRIOT by sumprunk 2014-04-29T20:50:00

Love the humor on this one. Would've liked more track of what I'm doing, something like a missile/planes destroyed counter. Was really surprised when the planes started dropping torpedoes!

Beneath the Surface by msminotaur 2014-04-29T01:11:00

Wow, I can't believe no one has commented on this one yet! It's pretty cool! Loved the art, absolutely beautiful. I dug in no particular order and felt the game ended too soon! Will go back to it and dig what I missed :D Great work!

The Fields by ryangatts 2014-05-02T21:38:00

Top notch graphics, theme and, maybe I misinterpreted it; but, a bit funny. I second the feeling of not winning unless I get no casualties at the end.

Beneath The Surface: A detective story of video game conspiracies. by taocayo 2014-04-29T02:09:00

Thanks Shigor for the suggestion and sorry about that! We did find a way of doing it, but we ran out of time. We will keep it in mind for the future.

Beneath The Surface: A detective story of video game conspiracies. by taocayo 2014-04-30T00:27:00

@xensky I know right?! You can tell that cats have a plan for silent domination in Dwarf Fortress. 1. Grow your numbers. 2. Make dwarfs grow attached. 3. Catsplosion.

Beneath The Surface: A detective story of video game conspiracies. by taocayo 2014-05-01T07:18:00

@Penguincat @jacklehamster Yeah, we had initially planned to make like 8 levels, including Castlevania, Mega Man and others and wanted to have much more complex dialog and 'investigation' mechanics. But we fell for the trap of doing things we've never done before (dialogue system for one) and time went by really fast.

Thanks for playing and commenting!

Beneath The Surface: A detective story of video game conspiracies. by taocayo 2014-05-02T21:44:00

@lowcade

Definitively would have liked to put some music and sounds when the character walks. Specially on the Dig Dug level! (: Thanks for the comment.

Beneath The Surface: A detective story of video game conspiracies. by taocayo 2014-05-08T07:07:00

@GrooveMan I agree that it has become a cliche of sorts but we wanted to indulge a bit on this submission and laugh at the nonsense that permeated the classics. Good point though.

@xdegtyarev thanks! I was precisely looking for noir soundtracks that fit the theme. Then bugs came out of their dark holes and ate all the time we had :)

Beneath The Surface: A detective story of video game conspiracies. by taocayo 2014-05-20T07:42:00

Thanks so much to everyone who voted. We had a lot of fun this time and we got our first award too! We'll be sure to come back. Thanks!

Lost Cat by dddaaannn 2014-04-29T20:41:00

Laughed at the cat animation. He's there waiting for me to do all the work. Typical cat.

Atomicle - LostAutumn.net by AutumnGuy 2014-04-29T18:16:00

Great game! The fact that I didn't initially know what the red globes would do was a fun surprise. I thought the controls were a bit weird in the beginning but soon got used to them. All in all, awesome!

Sewer Rat Escape by Seraphic Media 2014-04-29T02:54:00

Loved it! The sound effects are hilarious. Great replayability, great use of the theme, and hard enough to be fun. Great work!

They Beep by etherframegames 2014-04-30T01:02:00

Is there more than one ending?

Beneath The Surface by adamwoolridge 2014-04-29T18:54:00

Very nice arcade game. Beautiful. Controls were good. I wasn't bothered by the lack of music (maybe on the title screen only?). I liked the sound effects as the background noise. Good job!

We Grow by porousnapkin 2014-05-01T07:13:00

Woah! this really caught me off guard! Amazing concept, little bits of emergent behavior and oddly satisfying reactions to my actions as a player. The sounds match the style very well and every click felt purposeful. I personally liked how it ended, the tone and the last thing you see as the text rolls out.

Would love to see other works in the future!

Kill or Kill by GreatBigJerk 2014-04-29T18:41:00

Now, that was fun! Loved the art, too. Funny, the title made me think of Kill La Kill! I was watching it right before I started ludum dare :D Anyway, awesome game!

Planitia by TheZiggy 2014-04-30T00:23:00

Nice job. It seem the jump is done using the velocity property while gravity uses the physics engine. Have you looked at Rigidbody.AddForce or maybe Rigidbody.AddExplosionForce if you want a wacky effect. Kudos on finishing!

Airport Security Screener by SevenKingdomsSurvivors 2014-04-29T18:30:00

Loved it! I like the fact the belt only has two speeds. More challenging this way. Great replayability, too. The sounds were great! My only complaint is the button to stop the belt sometimes becomes unresponsive after playing for a while. Amazing game, tho!

New Dawn by Penguincat 2014-05-01T06:09:00

A good atmosphere and good pace on the story. Liked very much the take on the theme and the graphics. I also hat issues with the chase and would've preferred keyboard controls. Great submission!

Deep by ahmeni 2014-04-29T18:21:00

Neat! I liked the fact that one can't move up and down. Makes it more challenging. Great job!

Surface of Sanity by Shigor 2014-05-19T23:02:00

This is crazy! I love it. We were laughing on every room we played. The style is very coherent on every aspect.

Basement by Halfbus 2014-05-01T04:36:00

Wow, this is just amazing. I love sims and I didn't even consider someone could make one this solid in such a short time. Great work, I would love to know if you guys think of expanding the game. :)

Mycorrhiza by Urfoex 2014-04-29T19:22:00

Very beautiful title screen. Would love to play it when it's done!

I love this one! Great job. Lots of fun, very pleasing graphics and a greta concept.!

Panel Galaxy by Colorvade 2014-08-26T06:01:00

Great concept! Reminds me of some games in the 90s.

Data-Man by Hyoga-3D 2014-08-26T05:04:00

Nice spin on the pac man formula! Loved the slo-mo cam before losing, and the speed changes mid-level. Great job!

Gimbal Fighter by kumoi 2014-08-26T06:14:00

Reminded me of Tie Fighter. Great mood.

Translation Points by quadtree 2014-08-26T06:40:00

I really liked this one! I am surprised about the few comments! Liked the minimal style, the concept was really clever, too. Took me a while to get used to the controls but totally worth it. Great job!

Tangled Mini Worlds by Lars-Kristian 2014-08-26T05:43:00

Great puzzle game. Very smart and a great take on the theme. Would love to play a more finished version! Great job!
