LD22 — Alone

Alone in the Rain by noffle 2011-12-22T02:26:00

Thank you very much for all of the kind words!

@Doft: Yes, it's using double buffering. What OS are you on? Also, can you provide me with a reproducible case for jumping inside of a wall?

@Jacob: Good idea! It would be great to have a special move to quickly get out of the way of fridges.

@Kelly Thomas: You are, of course, quite right that the later levels are greatly based on luck, since fridges that are moving laterally don't show a warning shadow. I'll try to tweak the physics so that horizontal fridges do less damage.

@caranha: Earl Grey and sleep deprivation were the two key ingredients. As for the random damage, you might be noticing falling damage, which at present seems a little too sensitive.

@Cosr, @Shigor: Thanks for the criticisms. I agree that the game isn't quite in that "sweet spot" yet. Dying suddenly and unexpectedly isn't too fun -- it's nice to have a chance to evade or defend yourself.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

A fun premise that goes well with the theme. Simple controls, cute art, and rounded off with a good amount of polish. Awesome.

TRUSTY SWORD by noffle 2013-08-27T15:34:00

Gaspard_: thanks for catching that! My Linux/Windows binaries had gotten jumbled. It should be fixed now.

Moosefly: were you running on Linux? If you're on Ubuntu 13.04, it's a quick 'sudo apt-get install allegro5'.

TRUSTY SWORD by noffle 2013-08-29T03:05:00

Vnator: both weapons need to have the fire key held down for a moment before firing. Is there any chance that's all the problem is?

TRUSTY SWORD by noffle 2013-09-18T03:28:00

Antidote: a common misunderstanding I've noticed is that if your character is standing in open space (i.e. where there are no tiles), then they will drift freely until they reach solid ground again. Some people have been interpreting this as "the controls don't work", which is actually pretty reasonable if you don't know that you aren't supposed to be able to move freely on those areas of the map.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Whiteout by primaerfunktion 2014-08-29T02:57:00

A really great atmospheric experience. The camera took a bit of getting used to. I *think* the controls are shown on startup, but on Linux at least the game stutters when it starts and they vanish too fast to see. I was able to find one landmark object, but eventually died after wandering in an arbitrary direction. Very well polished. :)

Red Entity by danbo 2014-08-30T17:19:00

Very impressive for only 72 hours. Awesome title screen, great in-game graphics and animation, solid sound effects and music, and a cute little ending sequence. Well done.

Gravitous by MaesK 2014-08-30T17:28:00

Man, this was tough. I wasn't able to beat it, but I really enjoyed the mechanic of sling-shotting yourself out of the gravity of the larger planets to get some great speed. One thing I would have liked to see was a health bar or how close my ship was to destruction -- I found myself dying quite suddenly from a stray shot. Overall, good music, good use of the theme, and what feel like the beginnings of a really fun game.

Enduring Atlas by dickpoelen 2014-08-30T17:36:00

I didn't have anyone else to play this with, but I still found it to be an immersive experience. The music is very fitting, and Atlas' animations are fantastically fluid and and expressive: you do a really great job of theming the art, music, and gameplay together cohesively. It seemed like the Dark had an easier time making progress; I was finding that most Light lines I drew worsened my position, regardless of the light/dark combinations I chose. Overall, very well executed.

Balance the Worlds by slowfrog 2014-08-26T18:14:00

Really cool idea and beginning that I'd really like to see taken farther.

FACED by Sheepolution 2014-08-30T17:47:00

Cool idea! I enjoyed playing with the puzzles once I got a handle on how to play. A few things I noticed:

I found the first few 'tutorial' levels a little confusing, since it wasn't obvious "how" I was winning each of them: the relationship between the two screens and that the faces were overlapping was not immediately clear.

I almost immediately forgot which blocks could be pulled vs pushed. The gray blocks seemed immediately obvious: I think many games have built up our association for faded gray with "non-interactive". However, the other colours didn't suggest functionality in the same way. I wonder if other visual cues could have helped, like little handles on faces that you can pull, or pushbar-like pieces on the pushable ones.

The music had me a little worried the first time it played through: it began speeding up more and more and I was concerned that there was some time limit I didn't know about. I scrambled to try and finish more quickly before realizing that it was just part of the soundtrack and not linked to the gameplay.

Ultimately these are small quibbles, but I think you're onto something that could be a really fun, polished game. Well done!
