LD21 — Escape

Abigail's Descent by Cosmologicon 2011-09-02T04:55:00

Not the most original gameplay, but well executed and presented. I found running and then jumping to be a little frustrating (it seemed like I'd fall instead of jump frequently). Great graphics, dialog, and music!

Mission: Earth Escape by Laksen 2011-09-02T04:47:00

Very interesting. One of my original ideas for this contest was tentatively called "Escape from Earth" and was somewhat similar to this :)

Flying around the planets was pretty fun, but I thought it was a little confusing how you're supposed to "end" your missions (having ESC say "Mission accomplished!" was the most confusing). Great idea, though!

When I Was Human by Grieve 2011-08-28T15:57:00

Very simple, but very fun. As others noted, the difficulty varies quite a bit and it seems like once you fall in a pit, there's little hope of recovering. The music is very fitting. Great job!

The Great Volcano Escape by bluescrn 2011-08-27T03:10:00

Maybe not the most original, but this was really fun to play.

Did anyone else find themselves trying to see how many flips they could do while still beating levels successfully?

One bug I hit was that after beating one level and losing quickly on the next, the "safe, for now" message never went away (and it never said I lost).

Totally fell right down a pit once. I'm going back to play more now...

Another Escape From Self Replicating Bugs 2 by Spunkmeyer 2011-08-23T04:17:00

I wasn't able to get this game to start. According to the log file, the game started, but I never saw a window pop up. There appeared to be some window when I hover over the icon on the taskbar, but I couldn't get the window to actually be visible on my desktop.

Another Escape From Self Replicating Bugs 2 by Spunkmeyer 2011-08-27T01:14:00

Yes, Spunkmeyer, the resolution appears to be the problem. I'm running 720p (1280x720).

Right 31 by Kouta 2011-09-02T04:37:00

I like the idea and graphics, but I found the controls a little bit frustrating (e.g. the wrong block would be picked up, or a thrown block would "stick" to others instead of squishing a bug).

The Wave by Milo 2011-08-28T21:12:00

Interesting gameplay and very appropriate music, but I had trouble with the Windows build crashing (heap corruption).

Caved In by alexlarioza 2011-08-27T02:51:00

There's quite a bit to this game and all the gameplay elements work pretty nicely together. This is definitely one of the best I've played so far.

One bug: Not sure how I got into this state, but at one point I couldn't move. I could dig out the walls around me and put down walls, but I couldn't move out of the space I was one.

On the whole, you've done an excellent job!

Foxtrot by Elegwa 2011-08-27T01:32:00

I thought the fox graphic was pretty good and there's definitely potential here. The main problem (as someone else pointed out) is that you can't avoid the traps because they're invisible. While playing, it just feels kind of like random chance because of this. Consider making the traps visible but well hidden.

There also appeared to be a bug where after I ransacked all 3 coups and then died, after restarting the game thought that I had won (hooray?) :)

Nice effort given the time constraints. Keep at it!

It Burns! by MisfitBYTE 2011-08-27T04:56:00

I liked the music and the sound effects showed promise as well, but I just couldn't figure out how to play this one without reading the comments. I think with some additional polish (better introduction to controls, etc.) this could be a good game.

SUBJECT:7 by Kvisle 2011-08-27T02:23:00

This is the best entry I've played so far, congratulations! It was challenging, a little tricky, but still easy to grasp.

(Possible SPOILER) My only suggestion would be to make a certain item change your appearance (so that its effect is easy to predict).

Sunrise by Miasmir 2011-08-27T02:30:00

I just get an "illegal" address when I try and run the application. Please add more information on what is needed to play this so that others can give it a try :)

Abstraball by Frib 2011-08-28T15:48:00

I think this game is a great exploration of what kind of gameplay is possible in this style. Better graphics would help tremendously, but in 48 hours you have to prioritize, and I think you focused on the right things. This concept is definitely worth pursuing further.

Lost In the Shadows by JoeCool 2011-08-27T01:25:00

The graphics and sound are great--especially considering this was done in 48 hours! The gameplay is moderately fun, but I feel like I couldn't realy come up with a compelling strategy. My only other criticism is that the controls felt very sluggish on my machine (it felt like there was a half-second delay between a key press and something actually happening).

On the whole though, very impressive. You should be proud!

The ESCape by mattperrin 2011-08-27T04:42:00

Interesting and pretty fun concept. The map-changing mechanic was new to me.

Prison Break by hamster_mk_4 2011-08-27T15:12:00

Very impressive animations (and graphics in general) for being done in one weekend!

It was a little frustrating that once a knife was in the air, there didn't seem to be much you could do to avoid it (though it's possible I missed something).

Thanks for a great game!

The Grind by Deraj 2011-08-26T04:54:00

Many apologies, N0_Named_Guy, the source tarball specifies a required version of radius-engine of 0.7, but it actually requires radius-engine 0.8 which is currently only available from the Git repository (git://radius-engine.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/radius-engine/radius-engine).

Sorry for letting that slip in. I think I can actually remove the dependency on radius-engine 0.8 without affecting the game. I'll try and do that tomorrow.

The Grind by Deraj 2011-08-26T15:17:00

N0_Named_Guy (or anyone else compiling from source), I've uploaded a new source package that only depends on radius-engine-0.7.tar.gz (which can be found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/radius-engine/files/). Thanks for the heads-up, and sorry for the trouble!

The Grind by Deraj 2011-09-13T02:49:00

Thanks, everyone for taking the time to play and comment. I generally agree with your feedback. Namely, the gameplay did not reach the level of completeness I had hoped for when I set out.

Regardless, I'm proud of what I accomplished and am looking forward to the next competition :)

You Don't Fit by mcc 2011-08-23T03:58:00

Pretty fun game with unique gameplay, but really nice work on Drumcircle! :)

Lava Tsunami of Doom by Shot 2011-08-27T04:49:00

Pretty fun little platformer and very theme-appropriate. Nice work!

FYI: This didn't work in IE9 for me (but did work in Chrome).

Flashlight Runner by TheVTM 2011-08-27T02:34:00

Pretty simple and fun concept. I'll echo other comments and say that the difficulty progression was backwards (the first jump was the hardest) and that seeing my previous runs though made it so confusing I had to reload the page.

Very clever, regardless.

Bubba's Escape by Puffi 2011-08-23T03:47:00

Congratulations on a great game! It took me a little while to realize I could move the red objects (presumably dynamite) to blow up blocks, but once I did realize this, I couldn't stop playing!

Ninja Princess by bcoxie 2011-08-23T03:35:00

Couldn't figure out how to play this one. The princess would jump, just not high enough to avoid anything. Original concept, though! :)

Escape from Strong Castle by jcenterprises 2011-08-27T02:41:00

Very impressive RPG engine for a 48-hour competition, but holding escape whenever going into a battle wasn't the most fun, unfortunately.

My suggestion is to take the RPG engine and go make something bigger and better :)

Need For Code : Escape by K1NET1K 2011-08-27T02:27:00

Promising, but it looks like there was quite a bit of work left. Definitely run with this, though, it's a great start!

PS: I liked the controls as well, though they did take some getting used to and were not very realistic :)

Ambrose leaves by onzephyr 2011-08-27T15:18:00

Good music and graphics, but I'm not sure about what I was trying to accomplish. I colelcted bricks and light, but I'm not sure what to do with them.

Great effort, though!

A memory by maxx 2011-08-23T04:10:00

Great job on the graphics, they are amazing for a 48-hour game! I would have prefered fewer ads/less wait time for the download, though :)

Virtual School 2 by GozerGomez 2011-09-02T04:25:00

Great graphics and good atmosphere, but I didn't realy figure out how to do anything other than get ending 1/3.

Where am I? by Wingy 2011-08-27T05:01:00

Great music and surprisingly addictive given how simple it is.

My main complaints were the unskippable intro (esp. the second time through) and the fact that I could run way off the screen and not know what was going on.

Overall, though, a solid effort. Great job!

ZombieRobotAlienpocalypse Escape by bushmango 2011-08-23T03:21:00

Humorous, but kind of repetitive. Quite good for < 6 hours, though :)

Escape!! by kasper 2011-08-23T03:31:00

I haven't played a game quite like this one before :)

Not the Sharpest Sword in the Box by Draknek 2011-09-02T04:31:00

Super simple and super awesome! My only complaints are that this doesn't fit the theme very well and the high scores list is kind of confusing ("month" only has one entry, but "day" has several...). Great job!
