What a unique concept lol, well done!
Nice game here brosephs!
Fantastic game, full marks! Even with all the upgrades this was still challenging, and what happens after the first boss fight made me laugh :)
Super cool game. A well polished and complete game. I really enjoyed it.
Really freaking cool! Could use maybe a little more tutorials stuff, but otherwise very fun.
pretty fun, but i seem to be terrible at it :P
The first dare game to make me laugh so far! A solid, fun, Spy Hunter like experience. Great job!
I made it! Thank you, great fun, nicely playable. I dont like the music at all, but apart from it I enjoyed it much.
Neat game, can't beat it though! The upgrades are quite expensive and you need to grind through to get them.
Nice game, enjoyed playing it :) Music was nice and the idea was really nice.
I loved the attention to detail in the audio part; the SFX and the different music themes for the shop and the road. The first time I ran out of power I thought "oh. I'm using an electric car." I found the rate at which I got the upgrades fairly decent (about 1 every time, sometimes more). Also, I didn't know libGDX could publish to HTML5! I'll have to look into that...
Finally, I wanted to say that the game was consistent in style; the audio, the game and the art all meshed pretty well together; it's clear there's great teamwork going on. Great Job!
I'm not sure why but I seem unable to shoot either with left click or enter. :(
@antaresvaldemar You can't shoot until weapons have been upgraded at least once. If you still can't shoot after that, try clicking inside the game window to make sure it has focus, or try the desktop version and let us know if there's still a problem.
@landosystems sorry I was just being dumb. It all makes sense to me now. The whole thing is really fun and well thought-out. It was pretty satisfying upgrading the different stats and abilities. The triple-bulet shots from enemies were pretty tough to dodge. It was hilarious when he got in the spaceship and the ending with the girlfriend car was cute. Awesome work!
This game is awesome! Like the old NES games. Everything works nicely. Great job!
Nice :)
Positives: - Nice memories of both Spy Hunter and Chase HQ - Gameplay was deeper than i initially expected, and kept me interested for longer than most of the games i've tested
Suggestions:
- Either firing my weapons didn't work for me, or I didn't understand it (nothing happened when I clicked?) - Did start to feel a bit repetitive after a while because while the upgrades I bought allowed me to get further, they didn't change how I would play and approach any of the situations I got into
Overall though, good stuff!
Upgrades, YES! Musk is usually my hero, so for him to be the antagonist flips my entire reality upside-down. Never get to see him in the game except for in the title screen though, so I don't have to villianise him so much. :3
Music is great! It never really felt repetitive even though I'm sure it did a million times. The idea with the EV fits the theme perfectly (and yes, I would love to test drive one). Really enjoyed the background changes half way through, and the little cutscene at the end was the icing on the cake.
In seeking constructive feedback I would say... I'm not entirely sure what the pistol pickups did, as I never seemed to run out of bullets! There was plenty of option to be more creative regards ui and signalling of health and energy - could have showed it visually on or around the focal point (i.e. the player) like chassis degrading, but that's really not a big deal. Top speed of the car also seemed to have to go on the grass a bit on the sharp l/r/l/r bits - could have fine tuned that to perfection. Was there any screen shake in the game? Not sure if there was but if so there could be much more. As a weird additional, I also think it would have been cool to be able to shoot behind you... but then... I'd just slow down and knock 'em off anyway so also no big deal. (Big fan of Mashed here, if you've ever played it!) For art styles, it was a bit of a mish-mash of pixel art / gradients / vectors in there, but it somehow still felt good and consistent.
All positives from me, friends. I spent more time than I thought I would, and had more fun than I thought I would too. Excellent jam!
@gwinnell Thanks for the kind comments! For the record, the pistol pickups are a bit of a misnomer, they actually attach temporary axes to the sides of your car making you do more damage when you run into things. We meant to change the pickup graphic out but ran out of time.
As for the other things, we did intend to do more with the UI so we're right with you on that, although the chassis does degrade as your health lowers, it's just subtle. There was screen shake but it wasn't over the top Vlambeer style. We also wanted to have some sort of reverse shot, oil slick or smoke cloud or something like Spy Hunter, but ran out of time.
Glad you enjoyed it!
At first I though the president (who was also your girlfriend), had kidnapped Elon Musk and you had to save him. Anyways, I chuckled when I read the description. This is the first game of the jam that I played from start to finish, you got me hooked!
First of all thank you for recreating one of my childhood memories^^. Your game reminds me of a NES game I used to play when I was a young lad. And secondly, HOW NUTS HAS SOMEONE TO BE TO CREATE SUCH A RAD GAME!!! I would have never thought of it myself. Seriously! The idea that Elon Musk (Elon Musk is actually a Lizard-Man (like for real)) could be a villain is quite refreshing XD. Thanks mate, had lot fun with your gamee^^
Please play, rate and comment our game aswell: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/disaster-on-nebula-one
Fun game! Very reminiscent of spy hunter, although without Peter Gunn. I liked the power-up system, although it was pretty much keep playing and you'll win eventually. I would have liked a little more feedback on the boss cars - a health bar, or some indication they were damaged when I hit. Very nice work - a fun game, and great art and sounds. I like how we're now progressive enough to have our girlfriend be president, but not progressive enough that she doesn't need rescuing, or that we are rescuing a boyfriend. :-P
Right before I played this game I got into an argument with a friend. I said that a game is never worth playing for the story. Boy, did this game prove me wrong.
Funny story, great gameplay. Better graphics could have taken this one up a notch. Also, you guys should look into "The Art of Screenshake", a talk given by the white half of Vlambeer. Regardless, I'm looking forward to what you guys do next.
So amazing game! So good idea and a lot of work! I like the idea of the damaged car which is going to the left by itself and then is repaired during the game. It is really amazing! I also really like that player can destroy other cars by different ways. It is so cool. Graphic and music are also amazing.
nice little game
I played this game for long time! Enjoyed upgrading my car very much.
