I actually liked it, fun game and a good use of the theme. Of course graphics could be better, only problem is that after round 4 i left one attacker trough/ After that i could not continue.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD41 → Realm Guard

Nice combination of genres. The tower defense genre already implies strategy, but with the card system on top I really how to make choice between what I am going to do next.
The game hang when an attacker breached my defenses, guess I don't have 10 lives after all ;).
It is amazing how many different turrets you got in there (in 48 hours)! Keep up the good work!
@Swen @Aterlamia Thanks for the feedback! I should have fixed that odd bug now, and I'm a little confused(/embarrassed) I didn't manage to catch that in final testing...
The game is really good, and I was waiting for the first card game I will test for this Ludum Dare ! And this is your game, so that's cool ^^ I would really enjoyed to play more, but the game seems to be buggy :/ When I get damage to my castle, I could not do anything anymore ... The cards did not come back in my hands and I have to rexecute the game, to have the same problem ... That is too bad :(
Afterall, I can say that is a really great idea, the music and sounds are really cool and you made something quite smooth :)
Keep coding :)
Hey the game is awsome! i really like the combination of themes ;)
The game is funny and pretty neat (graphics and sound) , the difficulty is just right. The only bad thing i could say about your game is it doesn't respect the theme very well, card and tower defense are compatible games
I really liked your game! It has a great visual design and the combination of the genres is also really well designed. Loved the 8-bit sounds although I had to turn the sound down when they were all going off at once. Managed to beat it on my first try with just one life left.
I forgot I was playing a Ludum Dame game, which I think is a good praise! Nice little game! I'm impressed!
Good solid tower defense game with deck building. Really well executed for the amount of time.
Kinda wanted mouse support for the placing of towers.
(I can't find the source code?)
Really great game! For some reason, I expected cards to be removed from my deck when I played them, though that's obviously not "deck-building", so I was surprised when things started showing up again =). I'm glad someone else did a deck-building game as well =). Graphics and sound all go together nicely for a retro feel. My first game ended when the purple-spawny guy set a spawner within my castle, out of range of all of my guns -_-. I think I'll play a second game now... and a third... and that level 13 purple guy keeps getting me... and a fourth... finally made it past level 13, purple guy left a spawner in my castle again, but an appropriately placed minigun saved me, leaving me with 1 health, which was just enough to survive to the end of the game! Wave 19 I finally got to try out the flamethrower, and wave 20, as if an intentional joke, my hand was... 3 Shock Towers and 2 Rifile Towers =). Still won though. Really liked how, unlike a normal deck-building game, I really only cared that about 2/5ths of my deck was good, as the rest couldn't be played anyway.
@Jimbly Thanks very much for the feedback! Perhaps the portal spawner guy on wave 13 might have been a little too unfair - balancing was much harder than I anticipated, and I think given more time I would have do something about portals on top of the castle! I'm glad you enjoyed the game :)
Awesome game!!! Everything is very well done. Balance is not perfect but you cant expect to get the balance right on a Ludum Dare. Your game is just too good to say anything wrong about it. I have a folder where I save the best games of Ludum Dares. Yours is definitely going there as one of the best! Great job!
@Torak-Whiteleopard It did seem a little tough, but, honestly, I think the balance was close to perfect. A game that is fun, and I fail half way through the first time or two, but continue playing anyway, and then finally win by the skin of my teeth feels like perfect balance. Much better than being too easy =). I think the portal spawner was a bit rough, but without it I probably would have won on my first try ;).
It was difficult but I got really addicted to this! Solid design here. Great job!
really cool! not usually into tower defense games but the added bit of strategy really did it for me! :D
I spent way too much time playing this during work hours so I think that speaks for itself. Great job!
Sooo much fun and so well made! I wish there was more I could do with my deck (like remove all the shock towers haha) and level 13 is extremely hard but aside from that the game is great. Only game so far to entertain me for more than one hour, congrats!
nice game ! well executed tower defence with well balanced difficulty, i only played twice but i think i will replay it later (f**ing 13th level ! :D).
Card concept is simple but mix with tower defence work well, it could be even better with more card based strategy for a postjam game : you did a lot of work in 48 hours, especially on the gameplay.
GG
Wow, this is a really good use of the theme. I certainly would not have expected a tower defense + deck-building game to work very well, but this is awesome! The towers could use a little more variety, might be nice if they could be upgraded... typical stuff one just doesn't have time to do in one weekend, really. But perhaps if you work on this some more, that could be some excellent stuff to add.
Wave 13 was definitely disproportionately difficult, actually after it killed me in my first game I think it was the only level where even one enemy got to the end in my second game.
Here's the setup that got me through all 20 waves...

Fun game! Quit button didn't work in the HTML 5 version. Surprisingly deep, and fun to play. Cool music, appropriate sounds, lots of neat complexity. I wish the critters would show damage/hp, so you could tell what was going on with them as they ran through the course. Very nice work.
Really fun! I thought I was doing quite well until I hit level 13; those spawning enemies were unexpectedly difficult! The game kept me hooked and gave me enough information about the mechanics to give me thoughtful decisions to make, so I was engaged through the whole process. Well done!
This was a really, _really_ great entry! It does what a game is supposed to at its core: be fun! There are some things that could be improved for sure, but overall, this is a very complete and enjoyable experience.
I played this on stream and provide extensive feedback there, please go and have a look! [Twitch Stream](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/256065115?t=01h58m00s)
@bloodyaugust Thank you so much for the feedback! You mentioned a lot of things I would have liked to add given more time, such as deck viewing, tower radius views, upgrades and a faster mode - you pretty much nailed the fact that I was running out of time, but I think I got most of the features I wanted in. You found a very nice strategy to beat the game, and I'm very happy at the fact you enjoyed it. :)
@Torak-Whiteleopard Yeah, such is the life of LudumDare; an infinite amount of cool ideas, and the smallest amount of time possible in which to fit them all. But seriously, please continue working this idea and bring it to market! Is there a page/twitter/etc I can follow to get updates?
Wow, that was fun. I wish the card aspect was more refined (you don't really know how the deck works, is there a limited amount of cards, how exactly the randomness works, etc.) Overall, it felt great and polished. Got wrecked at level 13 by the purple stuff spawning ennemies behind my tower zone ^^ Bravo !
My favourite game game I've played this compo! Only thing I would improve is the sniper shot sound effect - it began to grind after a while. Excellent fun!
The TD part was really enjoyable. Was bit confused on how the cards/stacks/etc work at first, maybe it would help to have a visual piles somewhere (though screen space is expensive I guess). Anyway, as I said, the core game was great. Felt satisfying yet still not too easy. Good job.
Really good, my only complaint is that the progression is a bit slow. I like the deck building aspects.
