Fun game with nice art. I especially like when you're controlling multiple people at once. It might be able to use some harder difficulties; it might also be neat if you could pick up pitchforks from dead bodies.

zubspace 2019-10-07 21:45

Thanks for the feedback @TheMuffinMan314. You are right about the difficulty. A 'hardcore sheep' mode would be cool. Note to myself: I need to playtest more and always add a difficulty which is insanely hard.

scott-armstrong 2019-10-07 22:55

Cute art style! Some of the art is wonky though, notably the fence at corners and when the player walks over it. Something is odd about the hit radius for the weapon, but controlling the red dudes is still pretty fun. When you start controlling multiple at once, and when you learn you can change where they are by running them into walls, the game gets really fun and tactical, especially when trying not to alert the other sheep. It's surprisingly addicting, and if you added more areas with crazy shapes and wacky positions for your red guys to be in, this would be a very fun game.

mikymod 2019-10-07 22:57

Good games and funny art. It becomes really interesting when you can control multiple character. Sounds are a bit too loud.

yolziii 2019-10-07 22:58

Pretty funny! I took 524 points ) Nice idea with multiple characters.

dob 2019-10-07 23:02

Really delightful art. The gameplay was interesting, controlling multiple characters. I had fun coalescing them into a pitchfork mob. One guy got over the fence one time, and another time a guy got perma-stuck, but neither of those crashed anything. Background music was fun, but a little repetitive. The coin/bonus sound was like a little drill digging into my skull. The game was a little easy, or maybe didn't progress difficulty fast enough. I got bored around level 10 and stopped, but I don't know what I missed later. But very impressive, very smooth and intuitive controls, and I really love the artwork. Not sure exactly how it fits the theme.

stinkykitty 2019-10-07 23:04

Great job! The music was great! Really liked the graphics too.

oceanm 2019-10-07 23:04

I really loved the art in this game. The game was quite simple but enjoyable to play. I would say that maybe the post level point system could be a little faster, it kind of slows down the flow of the game a bit.

rollersteaam 2019-10-07 23:05

I really like the idea and the tactical element of pushing all your characters into a corner to form a group is a cool gameplay feature that the player figures out by themselves. Oh and the art is really cute by the way! Perhaps some small varieties in the music, and turning down some of the volumes of the SFX would add good finishing touches. Being able to attack downwards or towards the mouse pointer would be cool as well. Nice submission.

silkworm-sweatshop 2019-10-07 23:06

I have no idea what I'm playing as but it was still pretty fun to bash some sheep. Some sfx are a bit harsh on the ears but at least it's there to provide feedback, which I always appreciate.

corentin-sabiaux 2019-10-07 23:28

What a lovely day to kill some innocent sheep ! This was an awesome experience, your art have improved well, you have an aesthetic that remind me some free flash game on web browser back in 2009, nostalgia ahah It's simple and the controls are smooth. I love to see my peasants constitute an huge army ! As i understand in the comments, the button above the play text is a curve of difficulty ? As the menu interface is presented, i was firstly thinking it was for personalize the aspect of my sheep and i was wrong ! Maybe a new mechanic to add later ? :p I'll be pernickety about the range of our weapon, it would be better if it was a little bit more higher because actually we are too close to the sheep for killing him :p Good luck for the future !

zubspace 2019-10-08 06:35

@scott-armstrong Thanks, glad you enjoyed the mechanic. It's a crazy idea but works. Unfortunately I did not have enough time to improve the level generation..

@mikymod Thank you! I made the sounds in the last hour with sfxr and did not have enough time to master them... Note to myself: Do music and sounds earlier and not in the last hour...

@yolziii Good job! Haven't had much time to playtest, yet, so your probably high up the highscore

@dob Yeah the game is very rough... The 2D Colliders are a bit strange, but I don't exactly know why... Unfortunately I did not make i difficult enough. I wanted to add a black sheep which later on shoots bullets like in a shmup but ran out of time.

@stinkykitty Lol, thanks. The music was kind of a last minute job and is a bit repetitive, but I like sheep very much.

@oceanm Yeah, the score screen could need some more love. Scoring itself is a bit strange because time bonus gives you so many points. Need to work on this more next time...

@rollersteaam Thank you! I need to learn how to master the music and sound effects, that's right. I simply did not have enough time to add North- and South-Animations unfortunately.... Phew, animating is some time intensive...

@silkworm-sweatshop Sorry about your ears!....

@corentin-sabiaux Thank you for your feedback. First time I used Krita to create sprites and I love it already! Lol, I like the ideas about different sheep personalities! Need to think about that...

adliberum 2019-10-08 18:51

Love it. Neat little game.

korath 2019-10-08 20:40

Graphics/ ANimations, sound were on point. Gameplay is ok, but not to innovative. And some pple may like controlling multiple characters, for me its always confusing, and i dont feel like i have full control. Also the viewport i felt was abit small so sheeps surprised me quite often. But overall well done!

zubspace 2019-10-08 20:57

@adliberum I'm glad you liked it!

@Korath Thank you for your honest feedback. You're right, there are a few things about the gameplay, which could be improved. I actually think, that the possibility of losing control of many characters makes the game more interesting. It's a balancing act:

Few players = Less health but easy to control VS Many players = More health but hard to control.

My initial idea was to add a "duplication pickup" to receiver more players and I would love to add morey more pickup types. I also wanted to add different kinds of sheep with different attacks, but time was against me.. :/

vilcans 2019-10-08 21:15

Great graphics and a polished feeling at first with a menu and everything. Then I thought the gameplay was too basic at first, but once I got to the second level where you get two peasants it got a bit interesting.

grhyll 2019-10-09 16:35

Cool little game ^^ It's nice and polished, fun to play, especially with the guys you can move around and change their positions :) (Although the "point" sound hurts my ears a bit when it's long ^^')

zubspace 2019-10-09 17:19

@vilcans Thank you! I'm glad that I was able to surprise you :)

@grhyll Thanks! I'm sorry for the basic and too loud sound effects... I need to work on that more (and earlier) next time!

grhyll 2019-10-09 17:22

@zubspace Well I'm not blaming you at all, my game doesn't have sound :')

bocodillo 2019-10-09 21:56

Fun game. I really like the addition of more people. The audio is a little loud/high pitched in places. The graphics are really nice, animations are ok. Good work.

mikeliosus 2019-10-11 10:53

Hey!

Played your game and it’s a really nice entry.

Had some fun. :)

The game have randomly generated levels, isn’t it? Or are they kind of looped?

Because I already performed a sheep genocide and looks like I am no closer to the end. xD

Sheep_Keep_zubspace.png

Briefly checked your LD44 entry and can I say that you really raised your art level. Congratulations on achieving new goals! :3

By the way, thank you for reviewing my entry. :3

zubspace 2019-10-11 22:34

@mikeliosus Thanks a lot for your feedback! You definitely raised the bar with your score! ;)

Yes, the levels are randomly generated. I start with a square of walkable tiles and in later levels I add more such squares, overlapping existing squares. That way, the outer border of the level gets more complex, the farther you get. There are still many things, which could be improved, like making sure that everything is reachable after placing rocks or removing small areas of unwalkable tiles, but it works ok in the current state.

What took me the longest were the fences.. It's so time consuming to create all different fences and making sure, that they all work together...

I wanted to add different kinds of terrain, like swamps with water or a desert area, but soon I realized, that would be impossible in 48h. I also wanted to add another kind of sheep, maybe black sheep which shoots wool, but that got scrapped too, unfortunately.

chocolat-endive 2019-10-12 20:30

Ig's quite fun! Nice generation! The music is super short but really fun. Everything works perfectly and I didn't notice any bugs. It could be a nice game with some new mecanics (more powerful weapon, evilish sheeps, etc)

ogre 2019-10-12 21:42

It's very cute. Nice complete game for 48h.

flywolfe 2019-10-12 21:47

It's a cool experience and the style you went with is pretty cool. Also liked the music, but I wish it lasted a bit longer. Since you wanted to improve your art, you could also try to add in some post processing (mainly some color grading and vignette) and I would also adjust the fence so every post faces upwards the same amount (so you keep the same perspective throughout the game). But the art is definitely well drawn, so great job there ^^

andrulonis 2019-10-12 21:48

Please change the sounds of clicks in menu and the end game screen as in first case it simply cracks my ears and the second ones if you make them go all at once they simply make big thump. But rest is very nice not gonna lie, cool idea, fairly simple yet well made.

zubspace 2019-10-12 22:03

@chocolat-endive Thank you! Would have loved to add more stuff, but time was against me ;) And yeah, the music production was a bit rushed...

@ogre Thanks! Second time for me in the compo. Still trying to organize my 48 hours without getting completely drained out.. But I'm quite proud of this one, even though there are many things which could be improved I think.

@flywolfe Thank you for your feedback! Yeah, I think the sprites came out better than I expected. (Krita is awesome!) I wasted some time trying to animate with Unity animation clips, because I did not have much experience doing so, but the process was quite nice when I got used to it. I totally forgot to add post-processing effects, lol! Note to myself: I should enable post-processing effects at the beginning and not as an afterthought...

@andrulonis Sorry for the sound effects :/ Made in sfxr which defaults to immensely loud and Unity does not give me clear feedback, how loud sounds are compared to each other or if the overall volume is ok. Or maybe I just haven't figured it out. Need to work on that and maybe upgrade my headphones...

zubspace 2019-10-12 22:37

Due to popular request, I decreased the sound effect volume, because I don't want to be responsible for broken speakers and hurt ears.. Sorry for that!

simon-rahnasto 2019-10-13 20:02

Well... I feel like a terrible person, I just murdered so many innocent sheep, but at least I made a quick buck. Nice and polished for a compo game, really impressive graphics and audio. I also found the main mechanic of controlling multiple people interesting, was fun to gather them all up in a murderball.

Great job!

catusfelony 2019-10-29 03:23

Fun! I somehow passed right through the fence and got Soft Locked:tm:

Weirdly satisfying to take down so many sheep.
