Your game may have fit the theme the best out of all games I played. I really feel like I am sacrificing an experience when I choose something else.

This is very fun, with cool adventures. I played through about four characters to try to make different choices. Not sure I saw everything, but I had a good time.

Took some playthroughs to understand. Lots of small variations which made it fun to play again. Never did finish the game, though. Understood that something was suspicious with the elder, but never could find out what. Reached level 7 or 8 as most. I liked that the choice of ability in the beginning proved to impact what I could and couldn't do. Never did understand what to do to safely explore the mountains... I liked the humor. Good entry!

Lots of Fun. How do i Kill that ONE. already level 27 still lose... need some item to do it? best text game so far that i found.

Got to level 130 but no way to confront... as i understand it if i die the amulet will give next adventurer higher level. but i died too fast on the second try and only give 1 to the next one...

Glad you're enjoying it!

The mountains are always a threat. Ensures you always have a way to die if you need to.

Level 130 is crazy! Need to go through with different traits to find all the clues. Unfortunately I didn't put in a UI for tracking them :'(

Recovering an amulet gives you 1/2 the xp earned by that hero. If they don't recover an amulet before dying you won't get much when you recover theirs, however all corpses persist so you can eventually get all of them.

Finding a magic weapon that you can use is also important!

Really awesome game!! I must say I had very low expectations going into this (just due to the way it looks) but it eventually kept me engaged for almost 20 minutes :)

I still don't know how you get through the story though. Can you provide a hint? I thought maybe getting the amulet would provide the hero with the previous one's ability (e.g., so I could then sneak into the Elder's home and read the mystical symbols he has there). Could you please provide a hint? I could look through the source code but I'm afraid of spoilers :)

By the way, I think it's well written, but I noticed two typos in the text: 1. If you’re able to retrive it will grant you a portion of their power! It should be "If you're able to retrieve it, it will grant you..." So one "it" is dropped, and "retrieve" is mispelled (I think that was the misspelling I saw, I'm not entirely sure because textedit on mac auto corrected the spelling when I pasted it). This one really confused me - I actually tried to look up the word retrive and eventually I just didn't understand what this was trying to say. It took me a few times to understand I can get the previous hero's power by retrieving the amulet.

2. “You thank hime for the mighty weapon” (instead of thank him).

Anyway, really nice work, thank you for making the game!

Thanks for the feedback. I completely ran out of time to edit or proofread anything, so I'm sure there's plenty of typos.

Hints: * You'll eventually need to get a magic weapon that you can use. The mountains are dangerous, but you can eventually get one if you go there. * There's a bunch of different clues you have to find. Most of them can be found just by going through all the events. A couple require the Mystical Knowledge trait. One requires skullduggery. Goblin Slay is just for lols. Observant changes a couple events, but isn't required to advance. * Any clues you earn are saved in the amulets, so make sure you retrieve them when you die.

There is supposed to be a way for you to get mystical knowledge + skullduggery so you can read the books in the elder's home, and there's even an event for doing so, but that feature didn't make the deadline. You can still beat the game without it.

Y'all got any more of them goblins to slay?

Only real complaint I have is that I died a lot for reasons that aren't really obvious to me. Maybe that's just the intent, but it felt bad when i just died without warning.

Then again, more dead goblins, so still a win?

Very deep and detailed, with a lot of variations!

This kept me playing for quite a long time(I've seen a few different succession games this LD and this is one of the best examples of them), but eventually I realized that I had accumulated so many corpses that the game was actually soft-blocking me from proceeding with events in the mountains, because it would either kill the character or give them an amulet they didn't need. So I started a new run of the game only to find that the mountain death rate was still extremely high. If the point is to allow me to deliberately kill them, I should have an option with a 100% failure rate, instead of an option I actually want to pick that frequently kills them. It's really hard to see the possibility space of the game because many of the elements are random(unable to plan ahead, pure trial and error) versus chaotic(hard to predict but always consistent). For example, if it were only safe to hunt goblins or explore the mountains at certain times of day or days of the week - this is how VN and raising games will typically create "miraculous" events.

@triplefox Thanks for the detailed feedback!

Really cool, simple execution of the theme. I love distilling gameplay down to pure decision making. You did a great job of making the game feel different through multiple deaths. So much fun from two little buttons!

haha i lie the writting on this =)

A nice and neat game. Didn't get as far as a lot of the people here, but still enjoyed the gameplay and story. Good job

Simple principle, but quite enjoyable. The simple interface makes you want to try always a bit further.

I played a little while but eventually quitted because I felt I only could go to the mountains, where I died several times by apparently pure bad luck. This was frustrating

Impressive amount of story telling content for a jam game. I like that deaths also slightly change the course of the next play-through.

tom-kurcz 2018-12-09 20:50

Cool way to make choices. It's great to see other text-based games in this LD :)

artur-hawkwing 2018-12-17 17:08

That was a nice game, but I would have loved a health indicator and / or some exposed stats so I can tell if hunting or exploring (etc.) is a good idea. Also, music would have been great

But overall, a very nice story
