Hey, your game seems really promising, but I can't open it on Windows. Do I miss something that I should have installed previously or something like that? Please let me know.

A java exception has occurred :(
@danvil @vitor-figueredo It should be fixed by now. Thanks for the feedback !
TODO: review game
So polished, doesn't even feel like a jam game haha!! Graphics are awesome and I love the card mechanic, I just wish the diamonds and the energy looked a little more different from each other, cus sometimes its hard to tell. Awesome job!! :)
I couldn't find how to start at the beginning x) PRESS R (maybe highlight this). And then I didn't understand why I couldn't start digging. PRESS 1 (maybe highlight this :p). Great job with the blocks falling and all... Nicely done, and juicy :) My best score is 243. I thought it was bad but after several playthrough im quite proud ^^ Do the yellow blocks cost less to dig than the brown ones?
@badpaul34 Thanks for the feedback, yes the sand does cost less to drill through. :) @feralpoodles Thanks for the fb ! I figured that diamonds and uranium looked too close, but I did not have enough time to change it.
Really fun to play! hats off to you for this compo!
Takes me back to playing motherload in highschool, great game!
Really cool mechanic! Sadly I couldn't try it, as the Linux version refused to accept my '1'-press. But from what I saw the graphics look amazing, too!
A very polished and fun game to play, with crisp and clear graphics, but I felt the title screen was a bit of information overload. There was just so much text my mind completely glossed over the "press R to start" bit and I got frustrated when I couldn't start the game.
A decently polished game. The sprites are good looking, the animations make sense. The background music is non intrusive and sound effects are fitting.
The cards mechanics probably could be expanded.
The downsides - it is not very clear how to start the game. The opening screen shows you all kind of details and texts, and does not mention pressing R to start the game. Had to get into the comment section to figure it out.
Also you probably could mention that lava tiles are dangerous not only for their tile but for adjacent tiles as well. It kind of makes sense, but I had to learn it the hard way.
Also the game only runs in borderless non-fullscreen mode and wouldn't allow do adjust the size of the screen. A minor gripe but still somewhat soured the game experience.
@hilvon Hi ! Thanks for the feedback ! :) The cards mechanics could have been expanded, but with time lacking (and probably the lack of sleep that led me not to think of any other), I couldn't put more of them in the game. But I intend to add some in a future version (after the votes are closed). Concerning the opening screen, it does mention the R button, but i have to admit, it is not clear enough (it is embeded in the text and easily missed). I should have probably split all these info into different screens. I also realise now that it is not clear for everyone that you need to play the first card to start the game. I'll work on making it more obvious. Finally, concerning the borderless screen, I should have probably avoided it. Again, thanks a lot for the very useful feedback ! :) I'll play your entry as soon as I can !
@niterich Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate !
@pd-dev Oh, I am sorry for that ! I'll try to fix this tonight (I guess it can count for critical bugfixing allowance)
@pd-dev @salepate Thanks for the feedback ! :)
Neat game! I included it in my compilation video series of a bunch of LDJAM games! https://youtu.be/R25_tXZwmbw
Awesome entry! Adding cards to such a classic makes for some fresh gameplay. Congrats, one of the best games I tried so far!
Pretty nice game entry! Great work!
Love the use of cards as resources!
Really fun game, its a promising start if you keep building on it
Nice idea. Good execution.
Love the idea, good job
Nice game! I have to admit that it took me forever to understand how to actually start the game (i didn't properly read the instructions...)
Love this! I'm a total sucker for card game mechanics, and this scratches that itch well. It's difficult, but in a way that pushes that "one more run" button rather than frustration. I enjoyed learning the mechanics and finding my way deeper and deeper. One small thing that really threw me off initially: I got the lava protection card early on, and seeing only light and dark tiles, assumed the light ones were lava. Turns out avoiding the light tiles is a _really_ bad strategy, hah! Once I figured that out I had way more fun.
Great submission, I really enjoyed this one!
Oh, and I may as well share my best score:

Very clean look. Good audio atmosphere. Reasonable game mechanics. Well done!
One thing that could be improved: the text on cards is pretty small. Combined with the lack of ability to resize, it's slightly annoying. Nothing game-breaking and could be fixed afterwards, more or less easily depending on your engine.
Interesting concept and nice execution! Good take on the theme. I like the use of cards and it's a unique mechanic in a game like this :)
Also kudos for distribution a .jar (cross platform points!)
Super cool concept, mixing a digging game with cards and strategy is a great idea. Your UI is greatly polished, it looks really nice.
The background music is a little too loud for me, but it works for the atmosphere, and I think the tiles are flashing too fast when you dig, a smooth animation moving the tiles up could be nicer to the eye
Good job !
Although I could not hear the sound effects nor the music on GNU/Linux, this is a really well made game. Seems like a more polished version of my own game, with more thought put into it. I really love it. It's pretty much a complete game that could be released.
I think this is the first straight Java entry I've see this time around which kind of surprises me that I haven't seen others yet. Nice idea though, I liked the concept quite a bit. It was fun at first but it did start to feel really repetitive after a while. It might help that if you had different kinds goals to reach, like collecting a certain amount of a third kind of material or upgrades you could work towards. Or you could have different kinds of challenges like enemies moving up towards you or something. Nice job overall though!
Also, you generally shouldn't remove the window borders unless you're replacing them or if you're using full screen. It makes your game a bit awkward when it's partially blocking your screen and you can't move it at all. There are also accessibility issues I believe but I'm by no means an expert in that area. You can just turn off resizing if that's why you removed them. And Java, from what I remember when I used it, makes it fairly easy to style the window border if you just didn't like the look.
I played your game! Check it out! https://youtu.be/DHfy_7ZtjHk
So polished, nice job =) and the card mechanic is cool! It would be nice to have a little more variety in the cards, maybe? Many, especially the lava-related ones, weren't useful to me. I guess that's the idea, though.
I noticed a few green uranium "cloud" effects lingering after the uranium was gone.
Surprisingly deep gameplay, fitting fraphics and audio. A great entry!
That's a really fun game. Good blend of digging, management and strategy from the cards.
I found the initial help screen to be a bit confusing with the all the info and arrows. I think clicking through the help bubbles one at a time would be good improvement.
Otherwise really good job! :)
Any chance you can bundle this in a single exe file that does not require java to be installed?
The level of polish is really nice, and the art and music for the game fit well. There was a bit of information overload at the start, but I really enjoyed it after learning how to play!
A polished game. The art is soooo good and the cards make the game's stratagy so diverse and fun.
This is a nice one! Having cards makes every decision very interesting. With a few more cards and new blocks i could be playing for hours.
[Thank you for submitting your game, it was a blast! If you want to rewatch the feedback, you can do so here.](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1008357028?t=00h19m08s)
Nice little game, quite polished to be a compo entry!
Brilliant! So polished design and art, love it!
Little commentary in French! Already I love the graphics even if they are quite simple, the maps are really a good idea, it allows to add a bit of randomness in the game even if sometimes I never have the map I need x) C is a really great game, well done!
Ps: I was stuck in a game with -70 fuel and the game did not take into account that I could do nothing: / (Besides, maybe we should prohibit the passage in negative?)
@jupiter-hadley Thanks for trying everyone's game ! It is a huuuuge work you're doing every game jam and you deserve a million kudos !
@barelyevengames @poweranze Thanks a lot for broadcasting my little robot ! :)
@legolula Thanks a lot ! And I am already working on a post compo version (you can already try the current progression on my itch.io page). ;)
@phlebas @blue05 Thanks ! I admit the first screen could be done another way, that would have helped...
@justinmullin 443 ? Not bad ! Thanks a lot for the feedback !
@slowfrog-again @jogy34 Yeah, my mistake on the borderless frame. The post compo version will display the game fullscreen, so this will fix this issue and the 'small text' issue. Thanks for your feedback !
@srynetix Working on this ! :) Thanks for the feedback !
@emil-kosz I don't have any Linux installed on any of my computers. I ship the linux version completely untested. Sorry for the sound issue... Thanks for playing it anyways !
@adam-selker @vetu11 Thanks a lot ! More cards and blocks are coming ! I was struggling with time (who wasn't ???) and did not have time to do everything I wanted. But post-compo version is coming ! :)
@tanis I have not idea how to do this... Sorry...
@lorwon Thanks for playing ! That little bug has been fixed (I forgot to uncomment a crucial line... oops).
@antonishig @iaandrei @plexium-nerd @mika314 @nyanpierre @alexio-games @simone @agrdev Thanks a lot for playing drillerROBOT and for leaving a comment here ! :)
Great game with great mechanics and visuals! Good work!
Very fun game with lots of mechanics. Incredible!
So I really enjoy this game. Running around and breaking the blocks, as well as playing the cards, is just a really fun combination of mechanics. The interplay between the card system and the physical map of blocks to destroy is really interesting and just seems really fun.
I think it really just needs a bit of polish. There were a couple small (and maybe not small) issues I noticed.
So the not small issue is, this game really lags a lot on my computer. At least, I think it's lag. Everything seems a bit slow and sluggish, and sometimes pressing a number key does not play a card, or sometimes a bunch of cards will be played because they moved into the slot and I guess I didn't release the key fast enough. Even just moving the robot is a bit laggy. I'm not quite sure what might be needed to make the game less laggy but I would say that's its single biggest issue.
The other things are just small things: Somehow I misused a bomb card when I didn't have enough energy and I ended up with -2 energy, and the game didn't seem to detect this. I'm not quite sure what happened there.
It would be nice to include a note about how lava works, as I lost my first run to lava that killed me because I drilled next to it... I had no idea it would do that.
But yeah, aside from that, I really enjoyed playing this. It was a lot of fun to see how far I could dig, and I definitely see how the post-compo content you've worked on could make this even more fun.
Not as complicated as it seemed at first but still a neat game. I think the art was a bit basic but it works here. The music was good and fit the slow pace of the game. The gameplay itself was enjoyable, making me think about what my next move was. There was a good variety of cards, but I think it could have used a greater variety of blocks/ores in the ground. It also requires a lot of reading before you can play and understand the game which can turn some people away (especially in a game jam). Overall this was a really well made game, and a great entry!
I really enjoyed your game. The game felt really smooth and complete!
The visuals of your game are very cool, and The tutorial was simple but well made! The idea of mixing a card game with a digging game is intersting but I feel like it doesn't really match, cause the controls of the digging are very fun and responsive and I want to go fast, but I have to stop every time I got a new card to read it. It's not that bad, that's mostly because I like to play these game quick but I wonder if there were a way to speed the understanding of the cards (icons maybe ?) But Overall it was very good! Goof job!
