This is a gem! It's genuinely a lot of fun.
It can be a little hard to tell an overlapped polygon is a rock or an oil pocket, but maybe that's just part of the challenge.
The game does tend to chug a bit when you've got a ton of polygons on the screen, so there's an optimization opportunity.

Pretty fun! However, I wish that the threshold for winning was a bit lower (like maybe 100k instead of 1 mil)

Very nice game dude. Graphics are great and idea is just amazing. The upgrades are justified and game loop is fun too. Great game, you can easily extend this into a good mobile game.

Really good game right here. Make different biomes, types of drills, new hazards (lava pools, moles and so on) some story, post this game on steam and profit 😎
P.S. also I got a very THIIIIIIIN rock/oil? (I could not tell) psafasgags.png
P.P.S I forgot to mention that if you want some reviews for your game (because to get some statistics you need to have at least 20 on every category) you need to give reviews to other! or you can just make a post about the game.
Just a quick note, After some research I think I found a [bug](https://github.com/processing/p5.js-sound/issues/506) in the p5.sound.js library I'm using for sounds. This appears to manifest itself as slow/crackly/terrible quality audio after some number of sounds have been played (after several minutes of normal gameplay). If it becomes annoying, press 'm' to mute.
I've had a few reports that the game performance decreases with game time. This may be related to this bug, or a misinterpretation of the effects of the bug, but I've been unable to reproduce a major loss of performance, and I'm ~90% sure I haven't left an array somewhere slowly filling up with random junk.
All that said, Even though I've received relatively little attention so far, I'm overwhelmed how positive the response has been so far. A Post-jam version is a [definite possibility](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/oxymoron) at this rate
@aret24 I'm aware that I need to rate, I'm just busy catching up with life after spending the weekend on this. Thanks though!

oh, this is really fun! one of the more stable-feeling games out there. the shop menu looks a littleee messy and could probably be more polished, but the game itself is more fun than i thought it'd be! the other graphics are simple but cute, and the audio flows nicely. good job :D

Really neat game, love the upgrade system as well as the little details (like the oil drops going up the tube).
Its nice, i like dem digging games.
Actually a pretty fun game. Loved the upgrades and the challenge of the very slow turns at the start. Difficult to tell if there are rocks in oil when you have lots of upgrades. Guess it adds a bit of a challenege/risk.

Really nice game. I liked the idea and the music. This is the kind of game you start just for a few minutes by actually play for hours. You may improve it just by making rocks more visible when it overlaps with oil. Thank you

Nice simple concept with ease of play (not necessarily easy to win). Thanks for sharing your game and Good Job!

Yo, this game is actually kinda addicting! It gets a little laggy when the whole screen is full of oil pockets

Very well done! I found it quite addicting! :D I really liked the idea for power up. My only note for you: I wouldn' mind to find some dinosaur fossils, or other little tresures during the game. Overall is really nice!
This game is really fun! It's so satisfying when you collect a few oils in a row. My only complain is that at one point music just bugs out and also it's impossible to see rocks when there's too much oil.
I quite like the gameplay loop and and the way the controls work! The music is good too, for what I could hear of it before it got replaced by the crackles due to the bug in your sound library.
There's a few accessibility issues in this game that impacted my enjoyment of it: - The text is extremely hard to read, that cyan just completely blends in for me to the surrounding greys. I recommend in the future running your [text colour through a contrast checker](https://webaim.org/resources/contrastchecker/?fcolor=00E0FF&bcolor=B3ABA6) to see if it is accessible for people. (You want at least AA, but could probably get away with a contrast ratio of at least 1.8:1) - The rocks probably shouldn't be rendered behind the oil, it makes it so that you legitimately can't tell that you're about to crash into one until you do. Means most of the time when you lose it doesn't really feel like your fault.
Anyway, nice work with this! I'd love to see a post-jam version of this game that's polished up!
Wow I really did not expect this to be so fun! I had a blast! Amazing job!

Wow, played it over an hour
First I started in firefox, but there after, 500 Depth, there got some performance issues. I changed the browser and then it worked.
The sound was great, especially the FX fitted perfectly. After some time, something went wrong with the sound, there were some noise sounds that got more and more - after some time I only heard them.
But that is complaining on high level: You created a very fun, addictive game. It is very satisfying drilling throug these black masses.
I reacht the Million after 14 days and ended with 2.300.000$.
Great job, the first game I tested in this LD over an hour :-)

It is a neat little game. Especially the upgrade system. The browser version had some performance issues at depth lower than ~2000m.
@franca I actually meant to do exactly that, but just forgot!
regarding various comments about putting rocks on top of oil, I actively decided against it in this version, thinking that it would make it too easy, but the masses have spoken. if I do a post-jam version, ill take it into consideration.
Nice game! Didn't realise at first what I was supposed to slurp, but it was pretty obvious later on. The sound effects were satisfying, however the music got a little bit too all over the place over time. Lastly after a bunch of turning speed upgrades my drill just got stuck on the right hand side and I couldn't maneuver it anywhere.
Very nice. I would have left a review earlier, were I not busy trying to reach the million :)
You could add a lot of extra content, polish, etc, but the most important thing is to keep that game loop as slick as it currently is (pun intended).
One extra tip: add numerical values to the upgrades, like "+5% more frequent oil" or something. It would help the optimization geeks around to compute how much they value or compare upgrade items.
@slowfrog-again i actually had numerical labels on first implementation, but i figured id get rid of them until i finished balancing properly...which i never did. With a bit of experimentation, you may be able to find the upgrade thats considerably OP compared to the rest. Pumping all my money into that upgrade regularly wins the game for me on day 4 😂

Pretty great game! Reminds me a lot of Turmoil, but more arcade-y =).
The upgrades felt too incremental / small priced - I never ended a run thinking "if I'd done a little better I could have gotten *that*" but instead was like "well, I guess I get 6 of these 7 of those", so didn't feel very connected to the progress.
I love that when the oil gets super dense it's rather hard to notice a little rock in the middle of a bunch of oil patches, though it does get a bit extreme later. The oil was a little too opaque to always see the rocks though, would have been nice if there was a bit more of a chance to see the rocks if you're observant when it's super dense. Some pattern-recognition mini-game where rocks are always triangles and oil always 4+-gons would maybe be cool...
The controls felt backwards to me - I *always* pressed the wrong direction whenever I started trying to turn after not doing anything for a while, guess I'm used to snake games with relative controls ^_^.
Hit a minor bug where I passed through a (0-width?) oil or stone. I demand my $0 it would have been worth! unsoiled.png
Sound was nice until it stopped working ^_^.
I won after 8 days, felt like just the right amount of time playing. Admittedly my first day was great ($30K or something), and my second day was terrible ($1200).

LOL, now I feel less good about winning in 8 days... I decided to play a new game as an "idle game", and managed to win on day 8 without ever pressing A/D/Left/Right ^_^.
@jimbly perhaps youll be able to tell that I ran out of time for balancing ;)
I'm aware of the thin rock thing. The pipe moves forwards two px per frame and only has collision detection at the very end, so that'll be it. And yes, Turmoil was a heavy inspiration. Thanks for the comments :)
God this game is one of this, I will just play for 5 minutes... 45 minutes later flash games! I mean it isn't too hard to win and end the game, but if it wasn't for the end I would probably have played for a good while longer. This is such a cool mechanic, so well implemented. The music and the sound effects fit too. Something cool to add would maybe be a little alarm signaling when you are headed for a rock in the midst of a ton of oil fields, and a little zoom up when you break to show you the path you have taken so far. Other than that this game is near perfect.
Really well done!

I became a millionaire in just a week! One of the best games I've played from this jam so far. I think others have said this, but eventually you get so much oil that you can't see the rocks underneath. Maybe rocks should always be on top? Also my game started to slow down at this point. Lastly I think maybe the max horizontal angle should be reduced because you can kinda just got back and forth hitting everything which isn't as fun as going down further. But really for a jam game it was super fun, and the music was great.

Money flows easily in this game. By day 7, I was pulling in 500k each day. The audio got really messed up after about the 4th day -- to the point where I can't really hear anything else over whatever static-y sounds I'm hearing.
That said -- this game was really fun and has a really simple, clean aesthetic. Had much more fun playing this than I expected. I also appreciate the tutorial in the beginning (something we always WANT to do, but never have time to get in before submission). Great work here!
A super fun entry! The perfect length for a game jam, in my opinion, and probably the one I've had the most fun with so far. My only two major complaints are that the game can get pretty resource intensive at times, and it can be really hard to distinguish between the oil and the rocks when they're very thin white slivers. Otherwise, this was a blast to play through. Nice work!
