LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Fathom Pass by Listonos 2021-04-26T09:57:07Z

I agree with others here, I found myself reading the text rather than listening. It would help though if the sentence you were narrating at the time was highlighted. Very original!

Well, that sounds fun! by Jani Nykanen 2021-04-25T18:31:24Z

Holy crap, I really dig the art direction and it's goofiness! It took me a while to figure out that the optimal strategy was to keep floating for a while until I saw what was underneath for me to jump on. Great job.

Falling Lad by someoneman 2021-04-26T10:22:16Z

Tried it a little bit, was fun, though I felt helpless at times if I stopped on a platform, there was nothing I could do to avoid the big brown monsters

Minigun Miner by drludos 2021-04-26T09:25:27Z

Nice! In the hosting page I couldn't full screen for some reason so it was a little weird to play in such a small window. It seems like the optimal strategy is to just blast everything at start and then collect the coins, as it's very difficult to maneuver through the gaps. Was fun :)

Gemesis by Pio 2021-04-26T09:58:29Z

I can't play the game since I'm on Mac, but it looks like a standard boulder-dash / supaplex type of game.

Mr Games Fall by Bloham 2021-04-26T11:25:06Z

Actually the first submission that made me chuckle :D Rad!

Snake in a well by esenti 2021-04-26T14:49:03Z

You should go to WebGL Player Settings and switch from Compression Brotli to None. That should fix it.

DD-7 - Underwater Exploration by James Gillespie 2021-04-26T17:45:02Z

Art looks really good! I just struggled getting the controls right. :)

The Rabbit Hole by kevinworkman 2021-04-26T11:07:00Z

Would never think of something like this, amazing.

Stabalot by bw_devel 2021-04-26T14:29:34Z

Cool, a pico-8 game, very inspiring. The graphics were top notch for an 8-bit game, one nitpick though is I don't see how it fits the jam theme, is there a story behind the characters?

The Circles of Purrgatory by sevkron 2021-04-26T14:02:33Z

Oh this reminds me of papers please from some other gamejam :D I was getting distracted, jamming to the music

Bumpysphere by bassguitarbill 2021-04-26T09:43:56Z

It was interesting :) Took me a second to find the controls, and several more to get used to inverse controls. Kept getting hit by spiky fish, didn't know how to dodge lol. Was a little bit frustrated when I grabbed a briefcase and couldn't bring it with me -- it was just falling down. I really dug the art and music, and how you made it fit the theme nicely and literally. The physics of the game also were really *smooth*. Good job!

Ocean Cleanup by Weirdybeardyman 2021-04-26T13:13:44Z

Lovely concept/initiative. Music was very ominous, definitely made it feel like I'm underwater.

Anticlimactic by coatline 2021-04-26T11:33:17Z

Is this more like a simulation? I didn't find what I could do in the game other than click on UI buttons

Blue Eye - Salvage & Rescue by PurpledArtFrog 2021-04-26T10:11:27Z

I think you nailed the "*deep underwater*" part, however it was hard to tell which things I should interact with - there was a lot going on. I reached number 500 and I just lost, I thought that was my depth level. :D

Penguins can't fly by Attala 2021-04-26T14:16:16Z

I think this is the first game that I actually clicked restart a bunch of times :D Great learning curve, sounds are top notch.

HELLEVATORS by Quackqack 2021-04-26T14:21:36Z

Sadly, I had no idea what to do, souls spawned in random areas, I thought I had to build elevators to move them somewhere, but the elevators were not picking them up, I must've missed something

Deep Randomizer by Omich 2021-04-26T14:07:28Z

Hey don't feel bad about the music, I thought it was quite entertaining :) Somehow I bugged it to fire two weapons at the same time

Blue Cheese, Lunar Descent by clemonades 2021-04-26T10:34:52Z

This is awesome! The art is really crisp (jealous a lil' bit) and the sounds are very arcady. The fact that you have to throw stuff on the generator or fix something is a little bit wonky, but I enjoyed juggling between fixing things, powering the generator and killing what looks like bats? Fantastic job!

Deep Space Dive by Physi3 2021-04-26T14:44:19Z

The itch page is broken

Deep into the Volcano by JoelChrono12 2021-04-27T07:05:28Z

Agree with above, the game just starts, random camera movement and a bunch of text on screen. Once I figured the controls I quite enjoyed the physics & art, music was a little too loud. If it's cleaned up a little more I think it can be really good.

Astral Descension by nyxkn 2021-04-26T13:57:43Z

The music was a bit too powerful and the text reading was slow, other than that looked pretty nice.

Unsoiled by MiniBetrayal 2021-04-28T09:56:31Z

Nice game! Didn't realise at first what I was supposed to slurp, but it was pretty obvious later on. The sound effects were satisfying, however the music got a little bit too all over the place over time. Lastly after a bunch of turning speed upgrades my drill just got stuck on the right hand side and I couldn't maneuver it anywhere.

Marty and the Eldritch Horror by Game Endeavor 2021-04-27T07:10:44Z

Loved the intuitive controls, it was clear what I was supposed to do instantly. The digging mechanic surprised me, it worked so well and it was satisfying to dig around and leave marks. The fast dialog, the dialog box itself, the font and some flavour text work really well and lastly I loved how you wasted absolutely no time when restarting the level. I'll leave really good reviews :)

Deeper Than Light by Cinar 2021-04-26T09:50:23Z

Really liked how you took advantage of Unity's 2D lighting system. Although I was not sure what to do in the game other than collect white light and avoid red light. At sudden points in the game I started losing light which was odd. Other than that, looked really cool. P.S. The HOW button doesn't work at least in the WebGL version

Swing Shroom by Quite Good 2021-04-27T07:00:17Z

It was quite fun, the graphics and audio I think are 10/10, one suggestion would be to allow throwing your swing towards a direction rather than clicking on a wall? I found it difficult at times to click on something while falling with the camera movement changes.

Break your fall by Last Angle 2021-04-26T13:53:11Z

It's pretty wacky! It was getting pretty repetitive and I didn't know when I was going to fall so I decided to just let go of controls. Reached speed 500 and died, probably because I caught too many weights :)

Dropdown by Alexio Games 2021-04-26T17:27:25Z

Charming graphics, bricks disappearing at the top of the screen broke the immersion a little bit. Cute little game!

Oil Driller: Deeper and Deeper by Kittenhunter 2021-04-26T09:09:07Z

Really dug the sound and aesthetic, however it was a little hard to wrap my head around what I needed to do. Maybe it's just me but some in-game text bubbles of what I need to do next could help out. :)

Eye will see you down there by vegmuffin 2021-04-26T09:14:28Z

Thanks a lot for the comments guys! - @smash90210 the instructions disappear at ground level 3, I guess I could have made it disappear sooner; - @mizatorian good to know I sound like a frog! The sounds are when the enemy eyes meet each other and have the staring contest to decide which pair should move out of the way; - @ksadov that's awesome to hear! In the past I've tried with various pixel art directions but nothing clicked so I just slapped some rectangles on some circles and I was amazed too :) ; - @scidev I came up with the floating eyes because I cannot do any character design and the original game idea was to have a bunch of different tiles which would act as the "*body*" of the pair of eyes, with different benefits, but that turned out to be a little out of my scope :D ; - @zykra something for the future? ;)

Eye will see you down there by vegmuffin 2021-04-26T14:24:00Z

@wunarg @purpledartfrog @listonos @weirdybeardyman Thank you! @last-angle yeah I tried to do a visual effect on teleporting, but I think that's only somewhat visible if the glasses are close enough, so that's something to work on for sure

Eye will see you down there by vegmuffin 2021-04-26T15:43:13Z

- @clemonades @nekusoul thanks guys for the compliments, means a lot! - @dhim yeah that would also solve the problem of inconsistencies, for lets say checking whether a tile is occupied or not (is it still moving? on which side is it really?) - @kernon you remind me of a colleague that said "*if the whole world doesn't turn 3D I'm gonna be disappointed*". Thank you for playing!

Eye will see you down there by vegmuffin 2021-04-27T07:26:00Z

Wow, woke up to a bunch of reviews & comments, amazing. - @nyxkn @rhoff95 yep after reading comments & listening to other people say something about the game, the idea would be to lets say shoot thin lightnings between two pairs of glasses or at least have some arrow indicator to help ya out; - @nyxkn hmm good to know! Maybe some different enemy types to incentivize you to move sideways? I may have some ideas :D ; - @drludos hah, I suppose it just spawned that way, there's no difficulty curve at all. The enemies just spawn around you. Yeah I have some ideas for different enemies in mind, but if I continue working on it, I would likely fix up the most annoying things like the unfairness you mention, or implementing a difficulty curve, etc; - @phthalogold thanks a lot! It just worked out that way with the random spawning I implemented. I'm not sure about this but do you think it would make for a good rhythm based game?; - @aditya-kumar hearing that something meshes together makes me really happy, I've been really terrible with having something cohesive throughout the game. I totally get you with the audio, I recorded myself being childishly angry and was able to extract only one effect where it doesn't sound absolutely ridiculous :D ; - @kevinworkman now that you mention it, the eyes without a body do remind me of the eaten pac-man ghosts fleeing back to the center, cool! I hope you enjoyed it!.

This is very wholesome for me as a first real submission to a gamejam, makes me want to develop this more! :)

Eye will see you down there by vegmuffin 2021-04-27T07:28:26Z

@reheated ah yeah, the idea for the eyes fighting each other was that I didn't want multiple eyes to overlap on one tile, so I made them not go on occupied ones. I didn't want them just to stay and do nothing so I made them angry at each other. It turned out to be quite the personality! :D

Falling Rock by David Horning 2021-04-26T11:39:45Z

I lol'd when a tiny bird knocked me down, unexpected :D Loving the bitwise graphics with the black and yellow! Color palette reminds me of the warning signs

Paragon by LakshyaIsAGod 2021-04-26T10:15:29Z

Just came hear to say that your comments are everywhere and that's a sh***y way to market your game. Gday

SCHWOOP - the antiplatformer by Skye S 2021-04-26T17:39:00Z

Vertical flappy bird! The constant acceleration made it just a lil' bit more fun

Explosions And Fortunes by Mistafixxa069 2021-04-26T14:34:50Z

I was as frustrated as the player, just pressing holding left/right a bunch times and E to read dialog. I felt that maybe there would be something else after I slept but then I was already bored :/

Woof need to go deeper by Max XD 2021-04-26T11:36:09Z

The itch page leads to a 404, looks cute though :p

I Forgot my Brain by Tbage 2021-04-26T13:32:10Z

Looks slick, although I found going into the right direction is just luck-based, there were no indicators where to go. :)
