Very innovative! Great take on Theme! I found it a bit too hard. Perhaps having less options between holes or add some more different connections between holes would make it a bit easier.

foo-squashed-games 2021-04-26 04:11

love the idea

kevinworkman 2021-04-26 04:12

@wizkid Thanks! I figured it would be a little tricky, so I included a "show me the answer" button just in case. For what it's worth all of the connections came from real Wikipedia articles, but maybe I should have chosen them a little more carefully to introduce the concept a little bit better. Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

theseusinabottle 2021-04-26 04:21

Not something I would have though of to make for the theme deeper and deeper but it certainly work for it. Overall pretty fun but then again I am the type of person who goes down wikipedia rabbit holes on purpose so maybe I'm biased.

liammasters 2021-04-26 05:04

Really cool interpretation of the theme. This is a great gamified version of something I do all the time so I really enjoyed it. It would be cool to see if there were a way to automatically generate new levels.

rouge-dragon 2021-04-26 06:38

I'm the guy who made the same kind of game. So I must say that the concept is brilliant! I like the fact that you can get the solution and also the technical implementation. I will have a look to your source code!

vegmuffin 2021-04-26 11:07

Would never think of something like this, amazing.

johnnysix 2021-04-26 11:55

Oh wow, this was challenging. Great idea, and well executed. It was definitely a challenge getting it to as few clicks as possible. As a data guy in my day job, it'd be interesting to visualize a time-line / tree chart of clicks / paths taken through the wiki rabbit hole haha.

I went off piste and started looking at all the Java stuff so maybe a 'container' would be good to keep people in the game. :D

impbox 2021-04-27 00:31

I also did a Wikipedia game! I've counted 3 so far =) Looks like we've all done different kinds of implementations, so that's cool to see! I found the layout a bit hard to find the page content as it's the same colour as the main page, maybe different colouring would help? but I like that you removed all the extra cruft from the page so you can just focus on the main bits.

kevinworkman 2021-04-27 02:17

@liammasters Thank you! I had the exact same though of randomly generating new levels. I'll probably do that as a post-compo follow-up!

kevinworkman 2021-04-27 02:18

@johnnysix Thanks! Yeah the Wikipedia API opens up a lot of really cool possibilities. I might have to play around with those ideas after the compo!

kevinworkman 2021-04-27 02:56

@impbox Oh wow I just tried your game out, amazing! Out of curiosity was @rouge-dragon the other Wikipedia game you saw, or is there another one out there?

impbox 2021-04-27 02:57

@kevinworkman thanks! yep just @rouge-dragon's one, I haven't found any others yet.

kevinworkman 2021-04-27 03:02

@impbox Hahaha awesome, let me know if you see any more. It's really cool to see how we all took the same idea in different directions!

100th-coin 2021-04-27 18:40

That was a really clever take on the theme! I couldn't figure out how to go from Javascript to Babylonian mathematics, in 3 clicks, but I had some fun trying to figure it out! Cool game.

charliegray 2021-04-27 20:31

Oh, another Wikipedia game, cool. I like the "Wikipedia Game" and I love that there are actual games now, that monitor your prgress, really cool.

kevinworkman 2021-04-28 03:10

@100th-coin Thank you! If you get stuck you can click the "Show me the answer" button, but maybe that takes away some of the fun. Thanks again for playing!

colapolka 2021-04-28 09:28

Ha, brilliant!

I 'played' similar wikipedia challenges with friends, but never before as a workable game that actually counts your steps and lets you click through the actual wikipedia. Neat idea!

rhoff95 2021-04-28 17:02

Cool game. I would like to see this in a hand crafted version to really allow for more intentional challenge level. Well done.

schuster 2021-04-28 23:34

Great take on the theme!

briibot 2021-04-29 01:09

A really fun theme interpretation - probably one of the best ways I've seen the idea of 'deeper and deeper' represented, probably because of just how relatable it is - who hasn't ended up on this spiral at one point or another.

A really interesting entry!

kevinworkman 2021-04-29 03:05

@colapolka Thank you! Funny enough I found myself going down a lot of Wikipedia rabbit holes as I was making the game!

kevinworkman 2021-04-29 03:07

@rhoff95 Thanks! I could see spinning this off into its own website with high scores and the ability to submit your own challenges. I'll save that idea for a rainy day...

kevinworkman 2021-04-29 04:14

@briibot Thanks so much! I'm so glad the connection with the theme resonated with you, it was a lot of fun going down the rabbit holes as I was trying to decide which ones to use!

verygenuinecraze 2021-05-02 19:32

Very nice game based on a well known concept. It fits perfectly with the theme  I love games that have onlines features like yours !

mamon 2021-05-06 10:22

Mobile app would be great! With challenges, online leaderboard, levels and other functions. Noice!

namidasai 2021-05-08 19:38

That was really innovative and a nice change of pace! I liked the seamless integration with the forum, that's a nice touch. Think more work could have been done on the web page itself to make it look more appealing. Otherwise, really awesome work, well done!

zhanna 2021-05-09 09:25

Love your interpretation of the theme! I played the game for a while, it's pretty challenging at times but I had fun. Thank you for this creative entry!

geckoo1337 2021-05-11 16:21

Hello. Maybe the best game which I have ever seen for the 48th LudumDare session. Really innovative and addictive. Great take of the theme - and you did that using HTML. Honestly you deserve more ratings. I have to take a look at the code source. Well done ++
