Good basic game, if it got just a bit more polish you would have blasted me through the roof.

Good basic game, if it got just a bit more polish you would have blasted me through the roof.
I really like the concept and some parts are really great (love how you can upgrade you dwarves and the sprites change). However I think you know that it is too buggy and unfinished. I think it has far too much scope for 48 hours, you are aiming for RTS + city builder + resource management and that is too much for anyone to make and polish. You should be proud of what you've done in 48 hours though and learn for the next one!
Game is not bad, but needs some polishing. For example, there is no animation, when dwarf is gathering resources.
Just found the mining mechanic a little bit hard to understand but overall its a fun strategy game, well done =D
For a first solo game jam, you have already lot of mechanics! With a bit more time and balance, this mini game can be very solid.
I've been destroyed by those creatures and it was hard for me to find Sulfur & Silver :p
Not sure why but the game doesn't open for me :(. It seems to start up (at least it shows that in the task manager) but nothing displays. Any ideas? I would like to give this game a try!
Really nice concept, kinda Dwarf Fortress-ish. As said by others, it lacks polishing : it's hard to tell if your dwarves are mining correctly, and the placement of the values on screen are a bit to widespread. Having the current copper value next to the cost of recruit of a new dwarf would be nice for exemple, or coloring the price in green / red depending of the fact you have or haven't enough money to recruit a new one.
Very good concept and complete game for a 48h submission, the cave seems to be generated at random every playthrough, which is impressive given the time. The randomness can be of disadvantage though, sometimes the monsters are coming very quickly, and some other very slowly. Mining seems to be to slow, and it's hard to manage dwarves equipment in time for fight. Also the pathfinding can literrally kill your base, sometimes the dwarfs can't reach the ennemy.
It's also possible to scoot the area with the generator. Simply hovering the area with the mouse while you choose where to place it makes everything appear while you are hovering it.
Given a bit of more time, this game can probably kicks off. Great job.
@lehaine, well, it seems to be weird. I would be glad, if you will help me to investigate this: I need OS and specs of your computer. It would be nice, if you will write it to me in discord: SmelJey#9014 or through email: mixalevuriy@gmail.com
Nevertheless, I've added WebGL version on itch.io page, so you can check it out. For some reasons, it works only in fullscreen mode.
It took me a while to get going, because there was no feedback on how to mine, and a lot of the time simply clicking on the ores did not work, but overall, its a great game for 48 hours, maybe next time lower the scope of your project
@smeljey The WebGL version works! As for specs I am just using Windows 10, AMD CPU, NVIDIA GPU. I am using a 4k monitor as well - not sure if that may affect it.
**As for some feedback:**
A lot of what others said. I didn't know that the miners were actually mining until after a few minutes. I like these type of games of collecting resources and protecting your "base". I like the idea. Lots of mechanics in this game which is cool. I was quickly overrun with enemies. My "guard" dwarves ended up running away from the base chasing enemies. I do like that you can see the enemy glowing in green when near. Especially when they were around a wall. Gave me time to rally the guards.
But overall its a nice game with cool mechanics. Parroting what other people have said, given more time and polish, this would be very solid game! Great job and congratulations. :)
Great job! The game looks good, it plays good. In my opinion there are just two major things missing: First, a few animations for the dwarfs at work and second some kind of music and/or sfx. Apart from that, the game is great and really fun to play.
This is awesome! I didn't even realize that the world is randomly generated on my first try! Apart from the missing sound and some QoL stuff, its great! This was a lot of fun.
Hmm for some reason I couldnt get past the start screen. I clicked everywhere and tried every button
@cavedens was this on WebGL build? Have you tried to go to the fullscreen mode?
thanks for sharing your game. I had difficulty figuring out some of the game play at first, but started to catch on before long. nice graphics. keep up the great work!
Good attempt for your first solo game. Could just some more polish and audio. The main problem is the lack of player feedback. It's not always clears what's going on. But overall nice job.
Such an interesting idea! I really love the combination of combat and building. I don't know if I'm missing something but I didn't see any way to see what building is what in the shop before placing it. But I enjoyed playing it and I would definitely pay money for the finished version of this amazing game.
@skelleroznik I'm really sorry, I forgot to add buildings' names to buttons. Thank you for the feedback!
This is actually really fun. I think with a little more polish it would be really awesome. The graphics look great, and the core gameplay is there. Great submission!
its a bit hard to grasp at first and figure out whats going on, some animations would do it wonders ! but the idea is great and i think its worth working on it after the jam as well :)
Разозлили бедные гномы злых... монстров? А всего-то хотели руду добывать! Спасибо за игру! ^_^
Nice little game, impressive amount of systems. Might have been nice to include an option to turn off enemies to help players learn the game. Cute little bugs though! I enjoyed sending the little dwarfs to mine and arming them with swords to protect themselves!
I think this was a bit over ambitious for the time constraint, but it has a lot of potential! I like the pixel art and variety of systems, I would love to play a more finished version of this.
The game doesnt look very good and it has it's flaws but damn did I enjoy playing it! Super cool, great job. Would love to see this expanded on.
This game doesn't load for me on firefox or chrome on windows 10!
@astronautmikedexter Sad to hear. Is there some errors in developer's console (f12 in chrome) and did you try windows downloadable?
I liked the idea of the game, I like management games so it suit up perfectly. Overall a great game just felt that the dwarves where not moving fast enough, besides that I had a lot of fun.
Heyo, thanks for submitting your game to the stream the other day! Here's the vod if ya wanna rewatch, I hope my feedback was helpful!

I really wish this was a bit more finished. These types of management games are my favourite. I enjoyed it nonetheless. The lighting and the general aethetics created a good mood.
I'm trying to play on WebGL (running in Firefox on Linux Mint). It's not working, any ideas? I click play and nothing happens... The game sounds quite fun and I'd love to try it.
The idea is very different from all the other games I've played in this edition, and yeah I played a lot of them. But I guess you didn't have time to polish the game, so many aspects that would make me enjoy it a lot more were missing like sound effects or visual feedbacks for the actions I was doing with the recruits. Other thing I struggled with was the combat when the first enemies arrived... I was at the bottom of screen mining, then needed to head back to HQ but the screen didn't go up with me so I couldn't see what I was dealing with. Overall, I liked the gameplay and the variety of minerals and resources we could get. Good job!
@brendev have you tried to open in fullscreen? There is some weird bug with non-clickable button in main menu in non-fullscreen mode
Waw, great game for a compo! Nice job. I'm not sure if you didn't make audio, or it didn't work for me. But it would definitely add a lot.
Solid game! Only bug I ran into was the one previously mentioned and going fullscreen did fix it! congrats on completing this it's actually quite fun!
Things I liked: - I always like to see RTS's in game jams - I liked the different types of enemies rather than a single enemy - WebGL makes the game more accessible
Improvements/suggestions: - sounds would help communicate more what is going on - a minimap would help in finding your units that decide to constantly charge into battle - having miners auto-attack seems counter intuitive, would make more since that they continue mining unless specifically told to attack - group select/grouping would be a big help
Bugs: - You cannot play webgl without going fullscreen -
The game of elaboration several bug, the principle of the game is very interesting, I liked the mechanics of the buildings, which is extremely interesting.
However the game is difficult to play, the characters lag when we move around, we don't understand how we use our dwarf to create or how to have resources.
Hope you can fix these bugs, good luck.
Very ambitious RTS style game. I love the idea of controlling dwarves that can go out and do some mining while I try to defend against potential invaders. Reminds me of games like Craft the World and Factorio (both of which I love). Took a while to figure out, given that it's a jam there was probably not enough time to do things like mining progress bars, but it would have really helped figure out how the game works the first time through. That said, I managed in the end. Probably what I had the most trouble with was trying to mind reliably. A lot of times I'd have dwarves walk up the wall and I'd think they are silently mining but 10 seconds later no progress had been made yet.

Hey guys! I enjoyed participating in this game jam and really appreciate your feedback. Now I've made a post-jam update!
+ Controls update. Move your camera with arrows, speed up with Shift key and jump to your selected unit with Space. + UI update! + Multiple unit selection! You can try it with holding your shift key or with new unit box selection (just hold your LMB and draw a rectangle around them) + Advanced unit control - Attack, Move, Hold position and Stop orders are available via UI buttons. Also, with hotkeys ('A', 'M', 'H' and 'S' respectively) + Medical building, which heals your dwarves around it. + Population limit mechanic instead of increasing cost of dwarves. Build additional power plants to increase your unit limit. Now it should be easier to play. + And many more minor improvements...
There are still some pathfinding issues, no tutorial, and more things to fix. Also, I have huge plans how to improve this game, so stay tuned and check my itch.io page from time to time, if you are interested!
Try new version of game (Compo version (Windows) is still available to play) on itch.io: https://smeljey.itch.io/deepestmine
My LD48 submission: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/deepest-mine
P.S. 'Play' button on WebGL build is still not working in non-fullscreen mode. mining.gif
