I'm not sure if this is just on my computer, but I'm having an issue where I can't see anything in the water: https://i.imgur.com/a1B7hsC.png
I only realized what was happening when I watched your video, where you can see things (including the cat) in the water.
But I love the idea here, and I had a good amount of fun just hopping around for a few minutes. Let me know if there's a way to fix the water issue and I'll give it another try!
Thanks for playing @kevinworkman - It's using Canvas filters, I added a version where the fallback is an alpha blend - lemme know if this works, https://johnnysix.net/games/LD48b if not will have to try something else. :duck:
@johnnysix That version worked for me, thank you!
Here's my updated review: this was a cute premise, and the art was perfect. The cat was a little too fast and jumped a little too high for me, but it was fun to hop (and swim) around in the world. I only realized I could eat the grass and throw up because I spent so much time above the water in my first playthrough, so it might have been cool to draw more attention to that. I was mostly just eating everything I could find, but I managed to beat it. I could see expanding this to include other ingredients with other colors, which would let you add more levels. Overall great job!
Matching the color by "making it" is something cool I hadn't seen before. I wasn't sure if there was a way to "go back" if you'd picked up too much of one color, so I restarted a few times until I got it right. This could be reused as a neat potion? crafting system.
Great game, my only critism is that the camera is a bit slow at following the player. Otherwise, it's a very enjoyable game :)
@kevinworkman - thanks for playing again! Yeah, as usual I spent too much time on doing mechanics / art / music and not on actual plot haha. Maybe I'll make the grass animate or something to make it more obvious ( or at least explain it by adding some simple levels first (
Both funny and clever! The art was really solid, and after picking up a few ingredients, I started to pick up on the color mixing mechanic. Great work!
Very dynamic game with moody sounds. I was in shock after first jump :D This is a real Tomcat xD.

Those hectic jumps really emphasiszed the essence of cat :D
Very, very interesting winning condition that I'd love to see explored even further O:
Hahah game is really good and funny, i like this cat character, great graphics!

I enjoyed the game. The cat's huge jump was amazing. I've played a few games but I don't know why I won.

I love it! It is cute and funny, the artstyle and music are very impressive. The aggressiveness of the camera is almost as impressive, but it made me dizzy at times. xD Besides that, the only thing I would add is some smooth transition to the loosing/winning screen. Very good job!
Very nice game. A bit too short. But the jump feel very good and the game art is on point. Nice work

Getting real Epic Megagames vibes here, which I like quite a lot. The sprite work is gorgeous which really helps. The controls felt really touchy on my end, way too twitch for my liking, but that's a matter of personal taste I suppose. I think the only real complaint I might have is that if you try and jump out of the water without first having some momentum it will loop the sound and play the splash effect but you can't actually jump out. I would like it if you either A. could get out or B. the visual/audible feedback was different to showcase that you need momentum to get out of the water.
I wish it were longer, and here's hoping you'll use the engine or world to make a longer game - Great work!
The controls on the cat are some of the best feeling controls that I have played in this jam so far.

If there's a cat, then I must play it!
The game look gorgeous and the controls feel great! I just feel like the camera is a bit too slow to follow the player
The concept is quite original, and even though I suck with colours I still have fun trying to recreate the right one!
Nice work! I really like the concept of making a certain color by collecting things from the environment. Also love the music and sound effects! I do wish the camera followed the cat a bit closer though, it's pretty tough to see where you're going or what you're landing on at times.

Excellent graphics and audio. I really liked the pixel art... and the picture of your cat for reference. That's a good likeness!
Interesting and unusual mechanic, though I would have liked a bit more clue as to how to achieve the colour I was looking for. It seemed a bit trial and error. More levels would be nice of course, and I found a bug whereby I wasn't able to get out of the water sometimes. Seemed like a collision issue. I actually kinda liked how high the cat jumped - ridiculous though it was, I assumed it was a reference to the real cat on which he's based who, I assume, is able to launch himself many feet into the air at will?
That is one agile cat! Really fun to move around and I thought the music was on point. Great work!
Cute kitty. I like the objective of collecting the different mushrooms to make the correct shade of purple. The first time I somehow stumbled on getting the correct combination without trying. The second time I paid attention to the colors I was collecting and it took me a little longer.
damn a really good game with a really creative concept!
although maybe the concept could be a bit more fleshed out?? with like a clearer indication of how each element changes each color
also as for the gameplay the camera was a bit too small? or perhaps the movements/sprite size was too big, and the height of the jumps made the camera a bit erratic
overall great entry!
That was awesome! Controls definitley need some fine tuning as the cat was much more motivated to move side to side than I was but the massive jump was actually quite cool. Visuals are extremley impressive, I love the art style!

The game has a nice idea. The graphics and colors are very nice. Just few tips for the future: - Kepp the color art the same (you have dithering only in the water and on the sky) - Jump is TOO high, also it moves with the camera, thats NOT good. I really got nauseated
Good game, congrats =)
This is an impressive Compo game! I love the quality of the pixel art and what feels like smooth high FPS gameplay. A tweak that might add some more polish would be to have the camera better follow the cat when jumping as I feel the cat goes beyond what the camera can see by more than what I would like.
Nevertheless, good to see the amount of work done you did and I like your music as well!

The camera made it very difficult for me to keep track of what was going on. I think you nailed the art style you were going for though

Well done, it was fun to play! Pixel art and music are truly amazing. I wish it was longer. Also, it turns out that I'm bad at color mixing XD

This was pretty nice, and I was glad to see that it performed well. It's not easy to get browser games to run right, even 2D ones. Like some other people mentioned, the camera moved a bit more slowly than the player; but I think that is an easy improvement to make, just zoom out, or speed up camera following. (In our game, we spent a lot of time tuning camera speed. It's surprisingly hard to get right on the first try.)
I wish there was a way to add "black" dye to reduce quantities of the other dyes. I think you have a really interesting concept here, where the objects in the game are either collectibles or things to avoid, depending on where you are on the color bar.
@eckkert - ah , you need to press down near a clump of grass, he eats the grass then throws up. :smile_cat:

@johnnysix Haha, that's really funny. I see it now on the first line of your description.
Yeah... nobody read our tutorial either. ;)

I Love the graphics and the theme, but the game but the only problem is the camera. It is so disorienting when you move, and if you want to jump to places, the camera is down! overall, the Game is fun, but just fix the camera

Good music and feel, pretty short/easy though.

Neat concept, short 'n sweet. My only complaint is that the camera moves way too erratically for any accuracy to be possible while platforming.
@arbe @cubi @liero116 @ddesigndude @ghost-wave @goggleskitty - and anyone I missed, thanks again for playing - I finally found some time to do some quick tweaks / fix up some camera issues.
This was really cute and fun
