Hard as balls, but still very fun!

ctpeepee 2020-10-06 00:53

Super cool graphics and cool theme based idea!

karreg 2020-10-06 01:31

Oh nice concept ! It reminded me kuru kururin on Gameboy Advance !

I just find your game lacks of challenge : it's too slow, and the threats are too easy to avoid. But nice entry overall ! :)

prerak 2020-10-06 06:48

Nicee concept I fell in love with the graphics and the parallax background <3 Good work

2020-10-06 13:30

That was fun. Reminds me of Doodle Sketch - cracking game.

savvy-community 2020-10-06 13:59

Very original visual and use of theme :)

milmalissa 2020-10-06 16:01

That's such a nice game. The style of this game is really great!

100th-coin 2020-10-06 16:04

The artwork is charming, and I love the take on the theme! Great work!

jrevel 2020-10-06 16:06

Very simple game, with a cute esthetic. I find the loop a bit hard to control, but I think I need a bit more training. Good work :)

steffo 2020-10-06 16:15

Amazing mood and graphics, but the game by itself is a bit too easy :)

b0guslaw 2020-10-06 17:44

@steffo The difficulty increases with every 5 stars you collect, hopefully its not too easy when you collect many :D

kultisti 2020-10-06 18:49

oooh the main mechanic!!! would totally love to see this taken even further! nice job! also that hand drawn aesthetic was so cute ^^

prostone 2020-10-06 18:58

Really cool mechanic and great art-style. Got the hang of it after a while, but I still found it a little slow at the start. *HONK* *AHO*

johanhelsing 2020-10-06 18:59

17 points :)

The art style is pretty cool. And cool spin on the theme :P

One thing I found is that I ended up not using the loop adjusting mechanic very much, although I wanted to, because it's cool! Make tuning down the wasd movement speed and making the loop more configurable would have worked?

Or perhaps having a bigger minimum size for the loop would force you to use it more.

chocolat-endive 2020-10-06 19:03

The graphics are super cute! Nice drawing here. The concept of the game is simple but efficient, and well implemented.

I guess it would be better if there was more stars at the beginning of the game, because it's quite slow to start. And some collisions (with the birds) seemed a little "unfair" to me, but that may be just a feeling.

Overall, that's a good LD game, good job!

hank-ather 2020-10-06 19:07

@johanhelsing we definitely ran out of time to tune the loop properly, implementing the mechanic proved to be a bigger challenge than we had anticipated. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement when it comes to the core mechanic itself!

b0guslaw 2020-10-06 19:09

@chocolat-endive Geese are evil birds and you should never trust them. Thank you for your feedback, we felt similar about the star-to-enemy ratio but we had to cut it short due to time constraints. Right now each entity as an equal chance of spawning, which will make stars feel a little sparse.

zepapa 2020-10-06 19:11

My favorite part of this game is how you brought drawn images to a video game. The art gives the game a very pleasant aesthetic and a generally very happy vibe. It's a very peaceful game with a simple goal: get stars. I would agree with the comments above that I did not use the loop adjusting mechanic and would have liked to have a purpose for it because it was a cool concept. Overall, this was a fun little game that has the potential to be expanded. Excellent work :)

r3l0ad1 2020-10-06 19:26

Amazing game, nice graphics and a well executed concept. keep up the good work!

a333 2020-10-06 19:38

Absolutely adorable graphics, and interesting take on the loop theme. Your control scheme might be tuned and explored further, but nevertheless, I've had a great deal of fun playing with it.

skleembof 2020-10-06 22:06

interesting loop mechanic. I kept trying to get creative with the loop to pull of some slick moves past the obstacles but I kept killing myself because of it.

The graphics are really nice, I like that doodle style.

It might be better (or much, much worse) if the radius of the loop would change over time, forcing the player to adapt

melon-spirit 2020-10-06 23:19

I really like the art style you used for this, nice quality doodles! The concept of the plane going in a loop was also an interesting take on the theme and something I have never seen before. The implementation seemed really well done to me so congrats! Although was there supposed to be audio because my computer didn't have any.

marinee 2020-10-06 23:20

Interesting simle and nice game! I'd lovet it! Good job!

samurguy 2020-10-06 23:26

Really really fun and unique. The controls feel great and the game feels fair while still being very difficult. The art is also really cool and the music is actually nice.

kaelxd 2020-10-07 02:18

Interesting twist on a concept was pretty fun, the audio or impact when bumping into something could have been more impactful but overall good game.

castrolol 2020-10-07 03:30

The osx build are broken :/ I WANNA PLAY IT, plz fix it

rmonthil 2020-10-07 14:21

Very fun game. I love the idea you got from the theme, :airplane_small: actually it is pretty interesting to control this looping plane and it is quite pleasant to wait the perfect moment before rushing between two obstacles. It is pretty hard, but it is a lot of fun. I also loved the graphics, especially the little "honk" with the birds :bird: . It's a nice touch. Great job!

hank-ather 2020-10-07 17:23

@melon-spirit what build were you on? There absolutely should have been audio!

@castrolol I'm going to take a look into it right now and let you know if/when I can have that fixed.

hank-ather 2020-10-07 17:43

@castrolol Mac fix is up, sorry about that!

evil-as-shit 2020-10-07 20:47

Love tho doodle art style! I wish making the loop bigger/smaller had more mechaincs, seemed like having the loop as small as it could be was the most advantageous.

castrolol 2020-10-07 20:52

@hank-ather Wow I Love the art!!! I guess change de loop size is be great! I liked the sound too! congrats dude! if U has a time, see my game too :D

somogy 2020-10-07 20:56

What an incredible game it ! I liked the fun it provides

mauricioscherer 2020-10-07 21:44

I loved the art of the game, I missed the sound effects when I caught the stars and even the plane. But it's very good, congratulations

astrid 2020-10-07 22:19

I love it! The graphics are original :smiley_cat:

kolkav 2020-10-08 00:42

The game looks amazing! Not LD jam level amazing, but like a proper small game amazing! The gameplay is good, takes some time to get used to loop controls, but other than that it's pretty fun to play. The sounds for star pickups would be nice, but considering the time frame it's totally fine. Very nice entry overall, good job!

dsaltares 2020-10-08 06:25

Love the aesthetic! It is quite fun too. This game could totally become a full game and be released. I kind of missed some SFX and visuals when collecting stars or when crashing. Ah if we all had a bit more time .

valkija 2020-10-08 14:40

The artstyle is very nice and genuine, could definitely make it on mobile as a nice little time killer :D

natpat 2020-10-08 14:59

Nice job! I really liked the art style. A cool idea for a game, the idea of changing the loop is cool, but in practice I didn't really used it and just moved around. The music was nice and really added to the theme. Good job!

eugenik 2020-10-09 00:47

BRILLIANT!

mar3k 2020-10-09 12:37

Quite difficult, but after some time I got the hang of it. Very nice game and idea and I especially like the art.

gorrgolem 2020-10-10 12:23

A very nice idea. The constant loop concept make it difficult but in a fun and interesting way. Lovely graphics and audio.

zhanna 2020-10-10 16:11

Lovely aesthetics. Honestly, I don't really know why would you want to change the loop in the game, since it doesn't provide any challenges for you to want to do so. Yet, the game fits the theme perfectly, congrats

icxon 2020-10-12 00:19

I was wandering if this could be more challenging without the circle preview. Love the grass/mountains animation, it feels great with just a few frames!

Here is my attempt:

ale 2020-10-17 18:55

Really clever mechanic, and I loved the art and music. It felt a bit too easy though, and didn't find that changing the loop was very useful for avoiding things. I can't think of any suggestion now, but I do believe this is a good idea and you could probably come up with some interesting challenges that require the player to pick a specific loop shape.

Maybe you could lock the player in one position (center of the screen?) and *only* allow them to control the shape of the loop? And add a boost button or something to increase their speed for a short time so they can complete the loop faster to catch a star.

Anyways, this was a solid submission. Good job!

tinysalad 2020-10-25 10:27

An interesting mechanic, even if it does need some fine tuning. The difficulty could've been a tad higher(higher speed, more obstacles, etc). Looks great.

pixelgroover 2020-10-26 23:50

Cute concept. The art and creative directions is very well done. I found the loop mechanic to be lacking, and keeping it small seemed to be the most beneficial strategy. I could see using the loop controls for greater nuance and finesse, but they don't feel intuitive or snappy enough to offer value to critical thinking or reflex. That aside it was a quaint, chill game, and i'm happy to have given it a shot. Thanks!

vphyre 2020-10-27 17:27

Your game has an interesting idea. I like the artistic style you put in your game, I wish there were more games like that. The mechanics of "controlling the loop" at first sound a bit confusing, but in practice it works very well. It is a creative mechanic. In general the experience of your game is quite fun. Good job.
