LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Stuck in a drum loop by rodobodolfo 2020-10-12T00:54:30Z

Awesome concept, there is a lot of potential here! Love the mix of music, gameplay and rhythm.

A few points of feedback:

-how to use the sandbox mode was not exactly clear, and there was not enough feedback to tell me if the actions i was performing were making a difference or not. I managed to get a sandbox level to play, but my actions in no way felt like they influenced the sequence output

-starting a standard game should introduce the basic mechanic of a moving loop sequence in some way. Even if there are no obstacles, it should be clear there is a horizontally moving track that you are inevitably going to be navigating against. This could just be a semi-transparent and non-threatening rest bar that loops every 4 measures or some other regular sequence of time

-Notes you have to collect should be more obvious from the rest of the game enviro, because right now they blend in with the rest of the UI and do not stand out as an objective/goal/pickup.

-it would be nice to be able to move horizontally at a faster rate than the bpm. By capping move speed to BPM, it limits all right directional movement to being in stasis with the obstacles, which is not a beneficial strategy as you're either safe or not in that scenario, and have no way to finesse a better outcome with right directional movement.

Karma Farmer by Plasmonic 2020-10-12T01:23:55Z

Very cool concept. It was not very clear what was going on, but having some guided purpose behind your actions would go a long way to making this game enjoyable. It is really not far from a great game, but clarity in goals is 100% essential to take it any further.

24 Hour Diner by dreamlogician 2020-10-26T23:56:42Z

A for effort! I just want that $0.00 chzburger plz

My Hat by GuyUnger 2020-10-12T01:11:59Z

Excellent! The aesthetics and polish are top notch. Agree with the others on not being able to get past the airplane, but otherwise is was completely engaging and intuitive. Would love to see a complete version of something like this.

Seasoned Herder by lilou_cormic 2020-10-22T01:00:42Z

cute game! had a lot of fun running into different animals, and the concept of seasons as a theme is always a pleasure. Can easily dupe the game by running in circles across 4 different maps by just spamming a camera corner, but imo figuring that out was half the fun of the play session.

Lucky Lefty Loves Loops by TheBookSnail 2020-10-27T00:01:02Z

sub 1min, but i guess that is not too hot. Snail guys are a classy bunch, interesting choice to grayscale the player character, but i think it works. Controls felt smooth and responsive, and the hit boxes felt true to the obstacles. Well done overall, good example of executing within the original concept and polishing that into something both fun and playable.

Stuck in the Sewers by BoneVolt 2020-10-12T01:33:59Z

Pretty neat. I think the red, green pipes will create issue w/ colorblind players unfortunately. That aside it was a near perfect delivery of the experience you set out to provide. Only other caveats were that the yellow pipes were a little confusing (maybe my fault), and having to press the directional key each time to navigate was laborious.

Overall really cute and well executed!

Crazy Roundabout by ArmenBalian 2020-10-12T01:20:22Z

Lol this is it right here! Roundabout life so extreme so real!

Baderna by laorixu 2020-10-22T00:55:17Z

Love the aesthetic of this game so much! It's very cute and magical. The controls on the boat were so exceptionally slippery that i wasn't able to line up over some trees to fish fruit, but with a few tweaks I think there's a really fun concept. Personally I'd prefer the controls and camera to be a little less frenetic, so that the gameplay matches the rest of the vibe.

Cat | Stealth | Box by JakeGilla 2020-10-22T00:44:37Z

Cute concept. The bones felt more like a hazard than powerup to pick up. Got caught many times trying to pick up and place bones, but made it thru np the first time I tried to get thru while ignoring bones. Overall i dug it, and i'd suggest making the game play around bones making a little more clear as a first step if you plan to expand this. Other than that everything was super clear and ran flawless, so kudos!

Loop Racer by Fistflame 2020-10-22T01:05:31Z

lol i got loop racered. was 4/3 tracks in, and swear i did maybe 7 or 8. The handling feels smooth til its wild, and i never quite got the hang of it, but cruising around the track always felt fun. The dialogue interruption was unexpected but pretty humorous. Blue is a beast, they had so many laps by the time I hit 4.

Doodle-Oop! by Hank Ather 2020-10-26T23:50:59Z

Cute concept. The art and creative directions is very well done. I found the loop mechanic to be lacking, and keeping it small seemed to be the most beneficial strategy. I could see using the loop controls for greater nuance and finesse, but they don't feel intuitive or snappy enough to offer value to critical thinking or reflex. That aside it was a quaint, chill game, and i'm happy to have given it a shot. Thanks!

Around the Cluck by Brutten 2020-10-12T01:26:20Z

Like most of life: the dog is best part, haha. Funky concept, but i hate to eat chicken feed and become a nugget ngl

Wash machine loop by DmitryGalias 2020-10-12T01:03:31Z

def felt like i was trapped in a wash machine! Not sure what was going on, but I reached "The End". Cute concept, but hard to follow what was happening.

Space Drummer by Guilloteam 2020-10-27T00:15:44Z

Great work! Super polished, drum loops are so much fun, very cool to mess around with that and then jump into a decent game experience with your creation. Def my fave entry that I've played, you guys executed on a phenomenal level, so congrats!

Bird Beats by Mateus Lopes 2020-10-26T23:54:40Z

It was a pleasant game experience. The feedback for the different actions felt severely lacking, and the gameplay could certainly be evolved to be more dynamic (even a point system would help greatly), but the idea overall was well executed and in line with the theme. Loved the happy bus and birds, and how forgiving the response times were.

Slime Factory by HyperCubeGames 2020-10-12T01:18:30Z

Was able to play the game. Couldn't get past the wall jump area. Assuming it was wall jumps, but there was no obvious way to wall jump. Good effort on capturing some fundamental gameplay elements and then expanding them.

Cheese! Over and Over Again. by Brian Welsh 2020-10-22T00:50:24Z

This game is deceptively good! The controls are super fluid, and game object interaction feels tight and predictable despite the lack of visual feedback. While the game play elements and mechanics are few, they each come with a learning curve that lets the game continue being unique and enjoyable well after all of the content has been introduced. If I had one critique, it's that I subconsciuosly felt my player character was a cookie and not a cheese wheel at one point in my play session.

iLoop - the 2D endless runner game of a robot stuck in a loop :) by melvinng 2020-10-27T00:03:34Z

Art is very nice, music is my favorite I think. Gameplay controls are good, but the gampelay itself is obviously a little lacking. Seems like you're well-versed with making games, and everything about this submission puts that on display. Nice work overall!
