Fantastic game! It's like frogger inside of FL studio, very well done!
Really nice game. But it can get very difficult depending on the order in which you add the parts.
This game is amazingly difficult! I love it!
Woo, yeah! very difficult, but super thematic and well-executed. Similar to an idea we rejected for our game (use sheet music as a puzzle platformer), but I think yours was better. Frogger, great beats, great game.
I love it! it kind of hard but its adds a puzzle element to it. Maybe you should mention that!
This gets hard fast, but it's a brilliant idea and the resulting music is great
Do you believe i had a similar idea of a musica loop when the player needed to unlock a new part each time but didn't had the skill to compose a good music? I am glad the spirit didn't die with my limitation! Great job!
@cad Thanks!! I really like that tagline! "Frogger inside FL Studio" I'll use it on the description!
@freddyturbina @stefan-laimer thanks! I added a tip about how the order could affect the difficulty.
good: great concept! @cad 's "frogger inside FL studio" summary is a good one, and it fits the theme really nicely. pretty fun :) and yeah, hard ^^
bad: the movement keys don't feel very responsive/seem a bit clunky. not sure if this is because you're using the actual keypress events or something like that? also took me a few deaths to realize you can't go into the grayed out top bar :P I also didn't think to press the start button a couple of times, and wasn't sure why I wasn't moving...
That's the coolest interpretation of the theme. The only complaint is the cumbersome control - sometimes it just gets stuck. Other than that, everything is great. I like how the difficulty differs based on the order of the drums you chose.
@indivicivet Thanks!! I *tried* to do the movement beat based, unfortunately I ran out of time to make them feel snappier. The start button got me a few times as well, due to a browser security feature I needed to fire the audio engine via a user action. Really Great feedback,. Thanks!!
@bereg Thank you!! The controls were supposed to be tightly in sync with the beat, but they need much polish and tweaks.
@rodobodolfo ah, if you had to use a button to start the audio engine I guess that's just an annoying technical constraint ^^ I guess you could've made it big and obvious and in the middle
I think the weird feeling with the movement is it seems like when you hold a key, after the initial movement, it takes a second to kick in and start moving at full speed? (like when you hold a key and it goes wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww) not sure if that's a real effect or just the way my brain is interpreting the fact it's snapped to beats and not as responsive as I expect, though
Nice concept! The game gets hard really fast, but the idea is really neat. I guess, if you make gaps in the beat bigger, it would be much better.
Super cool idea! I wonder what other creative software could be turned into games  Splatoon in photoshop, the Excel roguelike, cmd.exe Typing of the Dead...
This game hit aaaallll the right buttons for me in terms of what I enjoy in a game. [Thanks for submitting it to the stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766889390?t=02h49m41s)
This is a super cool premise, and I'd love to see it expanded into multiple levels with different dope beats. I think if the controls could be a liiiiiiiiittle bit tighter it could eliminate some frustration during those tight gaps you have to cross sometimes, but overall this was a super solid entry!
Awesome concept, there is a lot of potential here! Love the mix of music, gameplay and rhythm.
A few points of feedback:
-how to use the sandbox mode was not exactly clear, and there was not enough feedback to tell me if the actions i was performing were making a difference or not. I managed to get a sandbox level to play, but my actions in no way felt like they influenced the sequence output
-starting a standard game should introduce the basic mechanic of a moving loop sequence in some way. Even if there are no obstacles, it should be clear there is a horizontally moving track that you are inevitably going to be navigating against. This could just be a semi-transparent and non-threatening rest bar that loops every 4 measures or some other regular sequence of time
-Notes you have to collect should be more obvious from the rest of the game enviro, because right now they blend in with the rest of the UI and do not stand out as an objective/goal/pickup.
-it would be nice to be able to move horizontally at a faster rate than the bpm. By capping move speed to BPM, it limits all right directional movement to being in stasis with the obstacles, which is not a beneficial strategy as you're either safe or not in that scenario, and have no way to finesse a better outcome with right directional movement.
@pixelgroover Hi, thanks for the great feedback!!! In my mind you would have a few "easy" tracks to serve as tutorial and the difficulty progression a little less abrupt. Unfortunately I didn't have much free time this jam and I could barely finish it in time.
The sandbox mode is just to play and mix instruments, not really meant to be played. (its just a debug tool exposed as a questionable "feature" ) I didn't have time, but the buttons should show as toggle buttons. Collectables were supposed to be icons of the drum parts but... time... sigh
About the movement, It desperately needs some revisiting, its the weakest part imo.
Thanks for playing, and the feedback!
Hey nice entry! The game is a bit too hard to complete :D I think our team went for a similar idea, you might enjoy! The sound was mastered very well, hopefully in the future you will make a better looking game :D keep up a good work!
I didn't make to the end, I was stuck on the last one - even if I kept the hardest for the end I'm afraid to not be very good at rythm games ha ha. This is a neat take of the theme, and it was very fun to play, so well done!
@cerka thanks for the feedback!! I REALLY like the idea of your game. Unfortunately I cannot play it as there is no Linux build :(
@joonamo Excel rogue-like sounds awesome!
Interesting idea! I really wanted to get all of the beats but found it almost impossible. By the time you have 3 or 4 pieces you start having to shoot gaps 1 wide at high tempos. Also I found a bug when trying to use the sandbox. I noticed normally the beat increases by 7 each time, but when you enter a custom BPM it just tacks a 7 on the end. So 50 becomes 507 becomes 5077. Anyway, good job!
One of the best games that i have played this Luduam Dare!!! A frogger inside a step sequencer !!So cool use of the theme...I couldn“t get all the beats... Did you quantize the enter of the beats into the loop? Congrats!b.png
@danielblanco3d Thank you!!!!! yes, the player and beat movement is quantized up to 16th iirc
@rhoka thanks! The sandbox mode is not supposed to be "played" with the character. I forgot to disable the start game button and to make it clerarer. Thanks for the feedback!
Very cool idea! I've seen quite some entries this jam trying to twist the frogger mechanic to create something new. This here is no exception. There's really a lack of good music and rhythm games so it's nice to see you tackle this genre as well :) The game play was simple enough and I enjoyed the progressive nature of the drum beats. The only problem I had was with the controls: They felt really unresponsive. Going up and down seemed to be accompanied by a severe amount of lag which made split second movement to dodge the notes really really hard, almost impossible in some cases. Going left and right seemed to work better, but even then, getting near the end, the notes were so fast, that I wasn't able to outrun them... Well, my fault for not planning my approach a little better :) All in all, really nice entry. Could use some some more response controls and some art to round things up! Keep it up.
5 star for innovation this game rocked (pun intended). I love seeing games that go out of the box with the theme like this one, and avoiding the beats as they come at you, getting progressively harder, was so cool. All the sandbox features was also a nice addition. Great job!
Cool concept! It took me a few tries to understand what was going on but then it was fun to come up with strategies to beat it. It would have been helpful for there to be an keyboard input pause right after collection of the drum piece to keep me from moving up one at the start and dying.
This was such a great idea! I enjoy musical games, and I think ours had a similar element (collecting layers of music). Great job fitting a sandbox and mixer in there as well. These were goals for mine, but I simply ran out of time. Yours was a pleasure to play. Lots of fun, and a nice beat to go with it. The user interface was also clean. Nice job!
