LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Stuck in a drum loop by rodobodolfo 2020-10-06T01:24:47Z

Woo, yeah! very difficult, but super thematic and well-executed. Similar to an idea we rejected for our game (use sheet music as a puzzle platformer), but I think yours was better. Frogger, great beats, great game.

Great little game. I love the art and the music, they set the mood very well. The idea for the game was really different, which I liked. I had a bit of a problem deciding what parts of the characters or their dialogue were clues, so I guessed for a number of them, but I really liked the stress of making a decision in a short time with spotty information. Thank you for for a fun time. Can the game end in a not quite so...final way?

Aouf Run by shubart 2020-10-10T16:44:24Z

I really enjoyed this game, but a few issues kept me from rating it as highly as I wanted to. First off, you nailed the feel (and sometimes frustration) of classic racing games from my childhood. Well done! The music is superb, and the tracks and art is very nice. You really captured the pacing and planning of overtakes that I think is a part of a good racing game.

Two things hurt the experience for me. First, hard collisions when you veer off-track or hit a car (or a car hits you). This is a design choice, but I like having more control and a chance to recover from mistakes. The second, bigger issue is that keyboard steering is way too sensitive. It was very difficult to line up straight, which greatly increases your chances of oscillating and collisions that kill your speed. Maybe either lowering the steer amount or adding some damping would fix this?

Overall, this was super fun. If the frustrations were gone I would probably play a stupid amount of this game.

Ribbon by 100th_Coin 2020-10-10T17:07:00Z

WHAT!? This game is stupidly good! I love everything about it - the art and music are cute and fit together, the controls are simple and pretty intuitive (it took me a sec to learn how to move the ribbon), and the theme is FRICKEN AMAZING!

The only downside is that it is so short. I was instantly hooked and wanted to do a lot more with the idea. Very inventive and superbly executed for a Ludum Dare entry. Great Job!

Nice little narrative romp. A bit rough in a few places, but great for a jam game. Good job!

Trapped On Track by Mads 2020-10-06T01:08:33Z

I like this game a lot. It took me halfway through a playthrough to really figure out how it worked, but it clicked for me eventually. Super clever idea.

Time Crash by Gonzalol 2020-10-07T22:02:25Z

Nice, polished game. Gameplay doesn't have much depth or variety - I would have preferred something to change up the pacing instead of just increasing difficulty, but I think that's probably asking a lot for a jam entry. The visuals are super, very nicely done, and the sound track flows well with the game. Is it possible to save the good professor?

Hung On Justice by Raphiell 2020-10-06T00:36:34Z

Fun game. Your pixel art is great. I really liked the noose charging and pulling mechanics, but felt like I lost flow a lot when fighting a cluster of bandits. Also, it was really hard for me to time the noose-throw on the big pit for some reason. I did have a little bug where I got stuck walking left, but no big deal. Great job, this was a good entry.

Hyperspace Slingshot by AllBetsAreOff 2020-10-06T00:58:31Z

Pretty fun game, I kept playing for a bit after I had decided it was time to stop, so it had that 'one more time' feel for me that I get when a game's core loop is good. I think, for me at least, it would have felt better if there were more level with fewer required garbage in each level. Your jump animation was super, though.

Dead Hand by Kszaku 2020-10-10T18:29:40Z

Great mood and storytelling, especially for such a small game. Love the pacing!

Leftfoot Louie by TwoBitMatt 2020-10-06T01:40:39Z

@feiko, @seth-tal, @tutti-ankka, Thanks for the feedback!

We hated leaving the audio behind, had done some voice clips and everything for win/lose/crashes and game banter, but screwed up our time management and ended up with a couple hours to go making sure we were feature complete. Part of the experience, though. I'll probably go back and add sound at some point.

Leftfoot Louie by TwoBitMatt 2020-10-06T23:52:04Z

@negdo Sorry you had an issue with the game. Thanks for playing and the feedback!

I think your experience with the car jumping was tied to a performance issue. I noticed during testing that when too many cars are active at once the physics calculations bog down. This causes the car suspensions to bounce and makes the car less responsive. Definitely not intended!

@hoolop @gonzalol @aless @thiago-nascimento @nicksmaddog @testuser @somogy @moffkalast @ninjacatz @saunik @iodi @fermingimpel @ancient-pixel @raphiell Thank you all! So much terrific feedback, it's way more than I hoped for!

We've put out an updated build out on itch.io if you're interested. I've added sound, fixed collision issues, corrected the car wobbling, done some major optimizations and improved the police AI. I think it's much improved now, pretty close to our original vision for the game jam.

Thank you all for making Ludum Dare the fantastic experience that it is!

HONK II by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2020-10-10T17:32:43Z

Wooo! Great game. Controls felt tight, gun mechanics were good (but a bit more punch on the fire/kill would be great), enemies are varied and tactically interesting, theme is stupidly fun. I love it. This game feels very polished for a jam game, well done on the execution, it came together very well. A couple minor comments: Levels might be too big, I got lost some. Buttons could have an arrow or other indication (I missed a few). More variation in footsteps & soundtrack (hard for a jam, I know). Those minor picks aside, this is one of the best LD games I've played.

...when can I have a chainsaw?

Nice, tight puzzle mechanics. The mechanics interacted in interesting ways that were engaging and intuitive. The graphics style fit the retro/code feel of the game. The sound effects were a bit bland and repetitive, but not bad. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. Thanks!

Crocodial by David-Liddelow 2020-10-10T17:59:04Z

Cool game, I love the idea of having a loop of spells that you swap in and out of! Got a bit hectic at the end. Good job!

Frozen Potency by Eugenik 2020-10-10T16:56:42Z

Neat little game. Graphics and audio are very nice. Game idea is surprising - good use of the theme. Gameplay is a bit weak and repetitive, though - dominant strategy seems to be to always run. Telekenetic throwing and running around the screen is really cool though. Good job!

Manipulate the Loop by AntiAndi 2020-10-06T00:45:21Z

I did not enjoy this game, though I wanted to. I think the idea was very cool, and you got a lot of complexity from your use of the bridge and block mechanics. I struggled to get out of the tutorial and died a lot. I think it boils down to how fast your character moves and how you have to kind of twitch/juggle/click some controls at fairly precise times to cross some of the gaps. Fantastic product for a first time jam, just not my cup of tea. I think a bit more UX polish and it would be super.

Fleder Flopin by Diefleder 2020-10-06T01:17:49Z

Holy texture panners, batman! I loved your character design and the set idea, but wow the variety and motion of everything was overwhelming. The platforming felt natural, and the sounds and music fit the mood super well. I found it most efficient to run on the ground, so the platforming was a bit lost on me, and did get stuck on something invisible once. Fun game, super good entry for compo!

This was a fun little shooter. The graphics were good, and I really enjoyed the music loop. The AI for the enemies was pretty fun to fight against. The UI/UX was a bit off for me, though. It seemed like I had ammo for other weapons, but couldn't swap to them. Maybe I was missing something? A few bugs with UI/weapons, and I never saw any health drops. Still a pretty fun game. Good job.

Time Saver by Daniikk1012 2020-10-10T17:47:26Z

Nice graphics, really cool idea. I figured out how to kill the first 3 enemies, but ran out of time after that. I'm not sure waiting for enemies to come to you as a mechanic is a great idea. As a ninja I want to dash around (your dash animation was really cool, btw).

Please Just Leave by Noam Blei 2020-10-06T23:45:36Z

This was a fun experience. A few little hitches and hiccups in the audio or animation, but nothing that really hurt the game for me. Thank you for the splash of humor!
