Great job!

The game works great and looks good. Doing this kind of game was also one of my ideas for this jam 🏎 The collisions work fine, and the variety in opponents keep the game interesting. I liked the music and visual elements reminding the first few zones of OutRun.

It is quite hard to go straight. I feel this is due to not being able to control the intensity of your turns. Levels are also a bit simple, with only straight lines and 90° turns.

Thanks for the game!

madhavprasath 2020-10-06 10:20

good job bro i like this game

blue05 2020-10-06 23:23

The variety of tracks kept me playing for quite a while! I enjoyed the game a lot. I felt like the collisions were slightly off, but I still enjoyed playing it.

hengen 2020-10-07 08:21

Hell yeah, a nice comfy car game with surprisingly good music!

etrealjunior 2020-10-07 08:52

I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection

andreo200 2020-10-07 09:12

Cool job bro, I like this game

eden-shazar 2020-10-07 09:19

The game doesn't seem to want to run on my machine, even with antivirus and such disabled. Any tips? I'd love to give it a go!

shubart 2020-10-07 09:26

@eden-shazar : this game uses OpenGL 4.4. Does your machine support it ?

gucio-miszcz 2020-10-07 09:30

Nice game, just would be nice to add any final screen, to give player feeling of achieving something :)

@gucio-miszcz : Thank you for your comment and your advice

eden-shazar 2020-10-07 10:35

@shubart According to GLView it supports 4.4 fully. I tried running it again - nothing happens, not even an error message :(

shubart 2020-10-07 10:52

@eden-shazar : sorry, i don't have a log system in my framework to have more information :( (this is in my todo list neverthe less)

eden-shazar 2020-10-07 11:13

@shubart That's alright, thanks for trying to help! At least other people don't seem to have this problem. Good luck!

shubart 2020-10-07 11:46

@eden-shazar thank you for the time you spent trying playing my game

recyx 2020-10-07 14:26

First of all 100 bonus points for doing this in C++ and not Unity or the like! Really enjoied this game especially the third map where it got quite tricky :D. The slow down on collisions was a really nice idea. It made be a lot more carefull about overtaking cleanly instead of just pushing the opponents out of the way. The music selection was really great too, I'm still listening to it as I write this. Would have loved to see a few more maps, good job guys!

shubart 2020-10-07 14:39

@recyx : thank you very much. Do you know the original "out run" arcade game (the songs come from it). Maybe i'll some new tracks. In that case; i will warn you

twohands 2020-10-07 16:56

Really nice game, especially raw C++ is sick! Love it!

ancient-pixel 2020-10-07 20:30

Nice touch with the different environments, Track 3 was a really thight race!

nusan 2020-10-07 20:56

Pretty nice game! Lots of content and a good mood. I was playing with gamepad and it was super hard, with the car jumping from left to right, and also the annoying bip when you are behind was frustrating. I tried a bit with keyboard and it seemed much easier. It's fun how you can sometimes cut corners but it's a bit random. Anyway, I like the idea, good work!

aless 2020-10-07 23:29

First game on this gamejam I can play with my gamepad, and that's a nice point. Great music choice aswell, and I'd play more this game if it had more content for sure

lduser125 2020-10-08 00:54

Very cool NES type feel to the game. Also liked the music, good job!

nicksmaddog 2020-10-08 01:50

Nice game! Really cool that you used your own engine. I did feel like it was maybe a bit too easy, so maybe having more difficulties would be cool. One issue was not really being able to get going in a straight line (at least using the keyboard). The arrow keys would turn too much so I couldn't go straight. The music was really nice, and I liked the maps. Well done!

shubart 2020-10-08 08:06

@nusan @aless @lduser125 @nicksmaddog thank you so much

baturinsky 2020-10-08 17:16

A decent Micromachines-like, but would be better if you'd add some unusual twist to the formula.

tomssuli 2020-10-08 18:18

Nice little car game. Played it with gamepad :) ...Collisions put me off a bit, but I still finished the game. Should the special power button have done something?

shubart 2020-10-08 18:24

@tomssuli : you have to play with the sound on to know

sandpile 2020-10-08 21:36

Fun little racing game. I like the pixel style!

aquanim 2020-10-09 11:25

I feel like I would have had an easier time steering with a controller, but I still found the game really well tuned in terms of both the AI difficulty and the increasing complexity of the tracks. Good game had fun :)

shubart 2020-10-09 11:32

@aquanim : thank you

gonzalol 2020-10-09 11:50

It's very simple but enough for a 72h event like this. I like the background designs. It's a little frustrating how the car completely stop when you hit other cars.

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-09 22:08

The game didn't work on my PC, sadly. I really want to play that game.

shubart 2020-10-10 09:22

@ms-annotation-x : this happened to someone else. While i didn't implement/used any LOG feature in my game i cannor help and i am sad about it. Are you playing on a portable PC ? which windows do you have ? would you mind running an opengl extension viewer ? I am interrested in the OpenGL part (http://www.realtech-vr.com/home/glview)

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-10 10:39

"Are you playing on a portable PC ?" Yes, I am! "which windows do you have ?" Windows 7 "would you mind running an opengl extension viewer ?" Sure, no problem!

ms-annotation-x 2020-10-10 12:50

I didn't know how to run it. So, I have to skip this game. Sorry for that.

twobitmatt 2020-10-10 16:44

I really enjoyed this game, but a few issues kept me from rating it as highly as I wanted to. First off, you nailed the feel (and sometimes frustration) of classic racing games from my childhood. Well done! The music is superb, and the tracks and art is very nice. You really captured the pacing and planning of overtakes that I think is a part of a good racing game.

Two things hurt the experience for me. First, hard collisions when you veer off-track or hit a car (or a car hits you). This is a design choice, but I like having more control and a chance to recover from mistakes. The second, bigger issue is that keyboard steering is way too sensitive. It was very difficult to line up straight, which greatly increases your chances of oscillating and collisions that kill your speed. Maybe either lowering the steer amount or adding some damping would fix this?

Overall, this was super fun. If the frustrations were gone I would probably play a stupid amount of this game.

spacestrawberriesstudio 2020-10-10 21:27

well done I like this game

shubart 2020-10-10 22:03

@ms-annotation-x I am sorry for you, and thank you for having tried to play may game.

@twobitmatt : thank you very much. The stopping collision is effectively a choice of design. I wanted the player not to push other cars through their way. But i recognize that i should fix the direction sensibility issue. Thank you for your advices.

@spacestrawberriesstudio : thank you

steffy 2020-10-11 21:52

Super fun game! As others said, an end screen would be nice. Still had lots of fun playing it. I got to hear the crash sound lots, but that's because I'm a terrible driver on any racing game. Good music and sound effects as well.

shubart 2020-10-11 21:54

@steffy Thank you very much

figueroass27 2020-10-12 01:52

I dont think the concept is by any means creative, but it certainly well done and very very fun! The music is great.

shubart 2020-10-12 07:33

@figueroass27 thank you

jonathanwang 2020-10-12 22:34

Really satisfying turning and controls. The music is great and overall the game was fun to play. Maybe add a little more leniency on the road barriers to allow for things like corner cuts and shortcuts to add another element of skill to the game.

lllarso 2020-10-14 15:41

I played it with a gamepad and it worked well. The controls felt good. I played all the three race courses and they had some good variations.

As @twobitmatt mentioned, I also feel that the stopping collison when you veer off-track is not my favorite part of the game.

Apart from that I had my fun with this game. Good job.

st1cky 2020-10-14 16:27

I liked the music and controls, it felt cool!

aeveis 2020-10-17 18:06

I got to the third round, and then lost. The first time I tried it I tried doing some shortcuts with the loops but it didn't work, so I had to start over. Controls are a bit sensitive, but I think collisions make it really hard for me to pass other cars, the other cars don't slow down while you do so they essentially are moving walls. keep up the good work!

cyriaque 2020-10-22 15:19

Very nice game ! i especially love the controls ;)

lyje 2020-10-24 14:34

Simple but well made and fun :) I think racing laps is a bit too obvious a take on the theme, but apart from that it's nice.
