Interesting concept of being a text-based game, although I can recommend the game text to be shortened. Some sections can be too wordy, could be better summarized I feel.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD47 → Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty

As a veteran who used to play text adventures I really appreciate this from all the platformers and action games around here. I love the writing style as well as cool details like music in the background, which is not typical for text adventures. It adds a lot of atmosphere. Overall, really cool stuff my friend :)
As someone who has not played many text adventures before, I definitely got stuck in a loop. Got a bit tired of seeing 'can't do that'. More hints as to what to do would be great.
Very well written and executed, nice job!
I really enjoyed this game, I grew up on text adventures like these! I managed to beat it as well, very clever and full of good humor. The Mystic River bits had me giggling.
Haha, thanks Charlotte :D I am going to continue working on this later on, I've received my first complaints about River... aparently someone tried to do these things to her after the control chip was fried hahaha! It's a bug I'll have to fix.
Good job guys. Nice game
Nice, unique atmosphere. A lot of effort has clearly gone into the writing and I think it is an interesting world to spend a moment in :)
A text quest, and even a web, and with a unique interface? This is a treasure! Although it would be nice to add a menu of available non-item actions to the sidebar ^^
Anyway really cool game!
Very Unique Game! I didn't see any Text games in that jam! My only problem Is that It didn't really fit the theme though. Overall, It was a pretty interesting game!
Ah, the stuck in the loop theme? I tried to go for a Groundhog day approach, where you have to do the same thing over and over again, wake up in the same bed, do the same boring job every day... until you manage to fix the toothbrush of course :)
"They are rusted, which makes no sense, because there is not much water and oxygen in space."
Unfortunately, that's as far as I got. The website was very slow to respond to my inputs, and it's now stopped responding altogether, even after I reload :( I won't leave a rating for now, but I figured I should let you know, since maybe you could self host it instead or something.
I think this was my first text adventure and i really liked it :) the artstyle in your images is also very cool. Well done.
I was really taken by the art/pictures! the writing was nice and i think you did a good job with the theme. I didn't get how it fit in at first then it obviously hit me! great job and it was nice to play something a little different, thanks!
This is a realy different experience, love it! Cool art style.
Interesting game. The text is a bit too long at some places and you get get a bit lost in all that information, but overall good job for making this text adventure!
Nice job on this game. It's quite original, I loved the contrast between the silly humor and the atmospheric piano soundtrack. It's not a so easy game, but I enjoyed it. It's always great to see some text adventures.
As other said, some parts are a bit too long, but it's hard to write so much content in so little time. Good job!
What an amazing game, very well produced. Excellent history and mechanics. Congratulations.
@vphyre Hey! thanks :) Yours is nice too, much better pixel art haha. I loved the ghost on the VHS
@chocolat-endive Great review! Silliness is very important to me. When I continue this one, a lot of time is going to be spent on making it shorter :) And actual orbital cleanup mechanics... The band has a much more elaborate story down on the planet, this was only the prequel. How does the godot engine work for you? I've never tried it, but I like how your game turned out.
@notinatal Hi, thanks! not yet played your game, but I agree, I should make sure the information is a bit more structured.
@mog13 aha! If you found the loops, you must have made it quite far in the game :) Your game Sushi Ink is an absolute joy to play. I never got into the hectic food preparation games, but this one is really fun!
@wheybags yes, the server of textadventures.co.uk is painfully unstable. I have to learn how to code my own engine and host is myself. Or find something I can build to html5. I just tried it, the server should work now.
@ninjacatz Yes, I really should not have deleted the non-item list on the side... WHICH WAS ALREADY THERE haha, it would have made it a lot easier. Silly me. Regguman is totally awesome. Laughed a lot, walking around with a water filled bass drum instead of my head. Madness <3
@gnx Thanks for playing! I loved the pizza game, clever mechanics... but not too difficult so it made me feel real smart :) no kidding, the amount of loops unlocking numbered blocks is inspired.
@charlotte-raymond You made such beautiful artwork for Mr Cheeks. Even if it got me cursing for crashing into the spiky blocks all the time, it's just because I'm a noob. The game runs super smooth, good controls. I love your feedback! Hanrick, River and Jonas are characters I roll with when larping in a post apo setting in Poland. I am the Needle of course. If you look at him, you get a very accurate description. hehe
@nehvis Glad you enjoyed the game! Galdir is a cool platformer, even if I suck at them... I love dwarves.
@iluvatar Your praise means a lot to me. Your game Unscripted has some of the best pixel art I have seen around. It is up there with Machinarium and Lucas Arts :)
Really enjoyed your game! What tech did you use to build the game?
I kept the soundtrack on a background for quite a while, reminds me of a Dear Ether, it fits the atmosphere just right.
@patrick-sweeney I used textadventures.co.uk lovely platform for text adventures. The server is a bit dodgy sometimes, but it is a free platform. Wish I could use it to make stand alone games and run it on my own server. Perhaps it's time I learn how to code... Hall of Anubis is nice :) I love how well the keys are hidden!
I like the idea but i had trouble finding the right command each time but that might just be me ! Loving to see other text games !
@shyrro I know... it is pretty hard core. There is a menu on the side where you can interact with the mouse instead of text. Looks like we both went for the Russian doll / Groundhog day approach :D there have been a few story games who did this. Pros and Constables is a fun one.
I like this! The music’s really pleasant and I really like the pixel art of the station. Quirky and imaginative writing. Nice work, and congrats on your first solo game.
Interesting idea! I loved the humour and the silliness, and the piano music was lovely too. Nice to see some text based adventures in LD!
This is the first text adventure I play! The story has a feeling of "A brave new world" which is always very welcome.
We also thought about the daily boring routing kind of "stuck in a loop" but we couldn't imagine any way to build a game around. Apparently all you needed was a knack for writing and for sillynes ^^
Btw, I hate you for not letting me lick Mystic River! :D
@ricargoes omg it's the Platypus guy!! Hahaha, yes I really should have allowed you to lick River after frying the chip... I've had two complaints already. River is based on a real person, I have told her that everybody wants to lick her. Thank you for your kind words. It sparks joy.
Guys, if you like relaxing piano music (and and a really beautiful game), go check out the game of @sengi https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/dream-chaser Clement Panchout really composed something amazing.
I really like how the humour sits on top of what turns out to be an actually quite dark setting and narrative. Good art and music too.
I've not seen a text adventure in LD before. How is the text adventure engine you're using? My co-developer and I have some text-based ideas.
I really enjoyed your concept ! At first a bit disturbing, but really nicely done and a very nice atmosphere :)
Touching stuff, nice humor (subtle and based on truth as any good humor). You probably had some influences I don't know about, but parts of it remind me of a novel called Bill, the Galactic Hero.
It would be great if pictures could have been larger, even if they would be pixelated, I couldn't immerse myself into those tiny black squares surrounded by so much white.
I thought I won't have patience to play through a textual adventure at first (unlike back in the day), but you made it compact and kept paragraphs short and interesting. Ironically, my game is mostly textual as well, but didn't manage to publish it in time for LD, link is in my profile description. Keep up the good work.
@kr4ft3r Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Probably the first person in the world to call me subtle :D Yes. You are absolutely right about the picture size. Next time I hope to use a stand-alone engine where I have more power to customize. I like your game! It took me a couple of turns to start understanding your interpretation of the theme! The type-face is pleasant, love the sound when you reboot. And your descriptions of the planets and species really make you want to explore!
Nice game!
great work with this! i really appreciate the dual interface of being able to type in commands, in classic TBA style, or use the buttons, so you know what's available. i wasn't able to beat it, some type of hint system would have been nice, but i liked the writing and the monochrome art style. the music was nice too!
