LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Mr. Cheeks Sweet Dreams by MrTroy 2020-10-06T13:45:16Z

Lovely art! Reminds me of the cute goth style in Lenore... the song sticks in my head and will not leave hahaha. It comforts me to know there is a kitten dreaming about getting treats and karate-chopping his way through candy land with fire blowing from its posterior :D

Orbit by nopogo 2020-10-06T07:57:53Z

Ok, this is the best one I've played today :D Using a cucumber to fix a reactor... cracked me up! I got to be a fireman in space. Seriously though, amazing finish, tons of assets made in such a short time. The time constraint and controls gave me the feeling like I was playing descent (1994) again. Gonna play this again now, gotta find that reactor!

Hope/Remember by arzi 2020-10-06T15:10:08Z

I really liked how it loops! You nailed the Groundhogday day feel :)

Unscripted by Iluvatar 2020-10-06T08:18:41Z

I AM ROBOT I HAVE SOUL - Dude, your artwork is Lucas Arts quality. Brings me back to playing games like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, or Full Throttle. The animations, colour scheme and sound really brought the game to life. And it's a fun story! Really feel for the little fella. Just loved it. Amazing how much you got done in a weekend. This is the kind of game I want to be making :D

Electronic Toy Racecar Championship by UncleGubbsy 2020-10-06T19:35:41Z

It is soooo satisfying!! I am really bad at racing games, but this one I like. Because I win all the time. Ok, I guess replayability would be higher if you'd add more tracks, clever A.I. upgradable parts, avatars... but you'd need a very long weekend for that. Fun game, thanks!

The Twisting Heavens by CreamyBacon2 2020-10-08T12:45:11Z

YOU ARE CRAZY!! :D haha nice one, I felt that. The drawings are beautiful! Music has a good mood. Retracing is a lovely concept, I've seen a one game that made it work pretty well https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/paradx-security they made it so you help your former self defeat an alien, but not allowed to get to close to your former self or you implode. Cool you submitted your work, hope you nail it next time! :)

Get the Pizza! 🍕 by gnx 2020-10-07T11:51:39Z

Cool stuff! I got a bit of an imbalanced feeling from the kick in the drums, but the game itself is well thought out. Puzzles are not too difficult, so that gave me a nice sense of achievement. :D I am really happy I got all the pizza. You never guess what I'm going to eat tonight...

Galdir's Quest by Nehvis 2020-10-06T13:55:34Z

Hahaha, sorry I am a total noob on platformers, I died everywhere! The music and art are great.

Dream Chaser by Sengi 2020-10-08T21:37:06Z

It was so pretty! And the music is super dreamy. Lovely repeating theme, changing harmony, chello, flutes. Don't get me wrong, the art in the game is fantastic and the game play is amazing. But I really wish I could give 6 stars for music. <3

PARAD🕑X SECURITY by grizeldi 2020-10-07T12:12:29Z

Wow! This is a really great way to mix strategy and fps :D trying to remember where you were before. It is out there with games like portal, I'd love to buy a full game of this. The town (you built a town in a weekend, awesome) feels a bit like you're in a Soviet town. I like the blue shaders... it's really high quality!

The Hall Of Anubis by Patrick Sweeney 2020-10-07T20:15:29Z

Hi Patrick :) Pretty chuffed I managed to finish haha. The keys are really well hidden! The lighting distance is just far enough to spot the hidden areas. Felt a bit like playing heretic or duke 3d... ok, different music haha. I enjoyed it.

Chicxulub by Literal Games 2020-10-08T21:23:11Z

I'm a noob, only got 77% :D Super fun! You are a pixelmaster! I totally loved the idea of the dino's defending their planet with space ships... superfunny. The music... at first I was shocked by the atonality. But after a couple of minutes I started accepting it, and now I cannot get it out of my head. You are an evil genius.dinogun.png

Fault Outcome by VPhyre 2020-10-07T09:23:21Z

Google drive is giving me an error 429 when I try to download your game...

Fault Outcome by VPhyre 2020-10-07T12:24:12Z

Ah, excellent, fixed it! What really attracted me to this game is the pixel art. I kept dying and rewinding, so you nailed the theme :) Really happy to get to the exit at the end. I'd love to play the complete game some day!

Light footsteps after the rain by Chocolat-Endive 2020-10-07T12:40:00Z

Wow, you guys made me totally zen. The photography is really lovely, makes me wonder where you guys live. France, right? This experience was totally different from anything I've seen around. Lovely.

Regguman by NinjaCatz 2020-10-06T17:48:33Z

Yessss I finished it :D Ok, I used the walkthrough a bit. I love the feel, sounds, music does fit the aesthetic. The random doors were funny, but the funniest was running around with a light-bulb-flower-pot as a head. You really made a nicely finished game, thanks!

A Really Bad Day by Shyrro 2020-10-07T09:47:18Z

Haha, I accidentally survived the game the first time. No loop :D So I played it again a couple of times to die :) Waking up with a bad dream, that was clever :) Nice music, it adds to the feeling of doing a boring day at the office :D Glad to see other text games out there!

Dead Hand by Kszaku 2020-10-07T10:18:14Z

Dude, this is horror! hahaha, fantastic piece of storytelling, got me way back to the early 90s... First off, screw you for finding out what my name and family name are, and putting that in the sentence with: ... is responsible for operation of the computer controlling the Dead Hand system. That scared me! (also nice reference to Dune2) waiting for a defrag was both nostalgic and frustrating hahaha, thanks for that! The next evil thing you did was issuing a error after I entered the delay code! (sorry for all the spoilers) You definitely nailed the theme. Now I am going to punish the world by letting the bomb explode muahahaha

SentIO by simon.parzer 2020-10-08T11:18:13Z

Wow, I felt like a proper hacker by the time I managed to open the game. So clever! :D Got a bit worried what (cute) Sid might do to my computer when I won... Very nice game, thank you!

SUPERCONDUCTOR by mnursey 2020-10-06T07:40:08Z

Great rush to jump from one circle to the other, matching the rhythm... awesome!

Jerry's Misfortune by Notredamstra 2020-10-08T12:07:09Z

Wow, I've never played a dental hygiene game before! Sweet :) yeh like krapht, I also had trouble latching on to the hooks. The arpegiator and voice overs feel like I'm at a post modern poetry reading. A unique experience :)

Bear in the Loop by TureGrappa 2020-10-05T21:22:53Z

Really clever! I like it how you go around the screen. Music is super soothing :)

Age of Amperes by JHax 2020-10-06T07:24:15Z

Cool game overall, but the music... wow. I love the melodies, the harmony, the glitchyness. The loops are nice and short, so it adds to the theme :)

Imperial Eggnog Incorporated by Blue Pin Studio 2020-10-06T19:20:20Z

A lovely ode to papers please, complete with Slavic voice acting! Wonderful gameplay, I now know the ingredients to Sweet Nun Nog by heart :') I went full corporate, laughed my posterior off. #THICC #TOOSALTY

Super Platypus Drifter by ricargoes 2020-10-06T20:28:34Z

Five stars for humor. I cannot stop laughing. The voice acting is on point. Controls are really old school, like the asteroids vector game from the 80s. But then... as a platypuss with a gold monocle, gliding from orbit to orbit, playing freaking Strauss... I just feel like I should drink Whiskey whilst playing this beautiful game. Thanks for making this, you guys made my day!

Four Walls Of The Boiler Room by spyranteros 2020-10-06T15:22:06Z

Freaky! I like :D I was getting so used to the ambient sound that I miss it now it's gone... I love the torch. Great achievement to make this in 48 hours by yourself. Also the name of the font is funny :D

The Fire Case by GetSky 2020-10-08T12:33:29Z

Love the forest layers! As mentioned before, jumping is tricky. Giving some control over the little fella in mid air would defy physics, for sure, but it would make the game a lot easier to play :)

SUSHI INK. by pbootly 2020-10-07T11:13:32Z

Loved it! I got two knives on all maps, so pretty happy about that. The music is AWESOME. Every time coming back to the scores and menu getting this slow bouncy beat with oriental overtones... it just makes me feel like playing a GTA minigame. Awesome game, thanks!

Space Drummer by Guilloteam 2020-10-06T07:32:56Z

Ok, I managed to make a drum loop that sounds badass... playing the game where you can have (part of) your own soundtrack in the background, and also influencing game play? Genius!

Project R.O.O.M by Arad HamidSamiee 2020-10-06T07:14:48Z

That was freaky man! Loved it :D

Project R.O.O.M by Arad HamidSamiee 2020-10-06T07:15:11Z

That was freaky man! Loved it :D

Pros and Constables by Ryan Canuel 2020-10-06T20:01:48Z

Yesss! Another story! The drawings are really good. Did you guys make the music? It is sooo nice. I think I hear a real harp in the title screen song? The story is cool, really glad I could be part of your world. The lady with the chicken under her arm cracked me up. The captain sending me away cause I had to pee? whahaa. Also impressed by your inclusive pronouns <3

Express Without Remorse by alpacalypse 2020-10-09T14:35:14Z

Wow, I am really bad at this genre! When I stopped being methodical and careful, but just approached it as traffic in the Rome city centre, I managed a lot better. Very nice game :)

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-06T13:48:15Z

Haha, thanks Charlotte :D I am going to continue working on this later on, I've received my first complaints about River... aparently someone tried to do these things to her after the control chip was fried hahaha! It's a bug I'll have to fix.

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-06T16:47:35Z

Ah, the stuck in the loop theme? I tried to go for a Groundhog day approach, where you have to do the same thing over and over again, wake up in the same bed, do the same boring job every day... until you manage to fix the toothbrush of course :)

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-07T15:02:14Z

@vphyre Hey! thanks :) Yours is nice too, much better pixel art haha. I loved the ghost on the VHS

@chocolat-endive Great review! Silliness is very important to me. When I continue this one, a lot of time is going to be spent on making it shorter :) And actual orbital cleanup mechanics... The band has a much more elaborate story down on the planet, this was only the prequel. How does the godot engine work for you? I've never tried it, but I like how your game turned out.

@notinatal Hi, thanks! not yet played your game, but I agree, I should make sure the information is a bit more structured.

@mog13 aha! If you found the loops, you must have made it quite far in the game :) Your game Sushi Ink is an absolute joy to play. I never got into the hectic food preparation games, but this one is really fun!

@wheybags yes, the server of textadventures.co.uk is painfully unstable. I have to learn how to code my own engine and host is myself. Or find something I can build to html5. I just tried it, the server should work now.

@ninjacatz Yes, I really should not have deleted the non-item list on the side... WHICH WAS ALREADY THERE haha, it would have made it a lot easier. Silly me. Regguman is totally awesome. Laughed a lot, walking around with a water filled bass drum instead of my head. Madness <3

@gnx Thanks for playing! I loved the pizza game, clever mechanics... but not too difficult so it made me feel real smart :) no kidding, the amount of loops unlocking numbered blocks is inspired.

@charlotte-raymond You made such beautiful artwork for Mr Cheeks. Even if it got me cursing for crashing into the spiky blocks all the time, it's just because I'm a noob. The game runs super smooth, good controls. I love your feedback! Hanrick, River and Jonas are characters I roll with when larping in a post apo setting in Poland. I am the Needle of course. If you look at him, you get a very accurate description. hehe

@nehvis Glad you enjoyed the game! Galdir is a cool platformer, even if I suck at them... I love dwarves.

@iluvatar Your praise means a lot to me. Your game Unscripted has some of the best pixel art I have seen around. It is up there with Machinarium and Lucas Arts :)

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-07T20:18:18Z

@patrick-sweeney I used textadventures.co.uk lovely platform for text adventures. The server is a bit dodgy sometimes, but it is a free platform. Wish I could use it to make stand alone games and run it on my own server. Perhaps it's time I learn how to code... Hall of Anubis is nice :) I love how well the keys are hidden!

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-08T07:06:30Z

@shyrro I know... it is pretty hard core. There is a menu on the side where you can interact with the mouse instead of text. Looks like we both went for the Russian doll / Groundhog day approach :D there have been a few story games who did this. Pros and Constables is a fun one.

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-08T21:03:32Z

@ricargoes omg it's the Platypus guy!! Hahaha, yes I really should have allowed you to lick River after frying the chip... I've had two complaints already. River is based on a real person, I have told her that everybody wants to lick her. Thank you for your kind words. It sparks joy.

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-08T21:39:56Z

Guys, if you like relaxing piano music (and and a really beautiful game), go check out the game of @sengi https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/dream-chaser Clement Panchout really composed something amazing.

Hanrick Hornigold and the Amazing Toothbrush of Liberty by Squidzilla 2020-10-14T09:14:14Z

@kr4ft3r Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Probably the first person in the world to call me subtle :D Yes. You are absolutely right about the picture size. Next time I hope to use a stand-alone engine where I have more power to customize. I like your game! It took me a couple of turns to start understanding your interpretation of the theme! The type-face is pleasant, love the sound when you reboot. And your descriptions of the planets and species really make you want to explore!

Something to Tell You by Blind Lemon Games 2020-10-07T09:38:16Z

Damn, I'm shattered. This one hits hard! The sense of helplessness is almost overwhelming. Really really well done! You got a lot of modelling done in a very short time. The singing in the background was soothing and unsettling at the same time. Because it is really nice when some one sings to you... but when you are struggling to breathe... wow.
