Nice game, flows really smoothly and there is quite a bit of content. I think after a while it becomes a little bit repetitive, and I would have liked less space/places and more interaction in general... But overall it's a really enjoyable experiece! Good job!

swiftvector 2020-10-06 14:24

As a big fan of the colour purple I approve. I didn't manage to break the loop in the end (if there even is a way) but the puzzling is pretty satisfying. Music is very catchy too.

wheybags 2020-10-06 14:41

Hello, I'm the test line! :D

Nice game. The music and art were pretty good, and worked well together. The repetition was a cool idea, but I didn't manage to fully figure it out in the end. I bought the dress so Hope's dad would fix the thing, but I didn't really know what to do with it, I just went there instead of the park on the final day and made it ping a few times, but in the end she got eaten anyway. :(

The controls could use some tweaking IMO. Holding down a direction to keep moving would help a lot, and also adding key binds for the few things you need your mouse for, so you can just play one handed. Minor issue though.

arzi 2020-10-06 15:05

@nablaz Yeah, I totally ran out of time with all the interactions and had to concentrate only on the ones essential to the storyline.

@wheybags I would have wanted to add the keybinds, but didn't have time. Not sure if that would count a 'port' though.

I added a walkthrough PDF to the Itch's Downloads section if you want to just experience the story without getting bogged by the puzzles.

squidzilla 2020-10-06 15:10

I really liked how it loops! You nailed the Groundhogday day feel :)

arad-hamidsamiee 2020-10-06 16:35

This game took me more time than I thought. (was the "hello i'm a test box" intented to make it to the exported version?) the gameplay felt good, the game felt intersting. good job

arzi 2020-10-06 16:40

@arad-hamidsamiee I remembered it when doing one of the final builds and could have just removed it, but decided to leave it as an easter egg.

nyubi 2020-10-06 19:56

I like the simplicity of the pixel art! Out of curiosity: did you create it from within Unity, or with another tool? You got me interested now :)

I thought of going with a purple/orange range for my game initially too, but couldn’t get it to work - I really like yours!

Also: Really good soundtrack, it fits nicely to me!

And as @wheybags mentions, I would have loved to have an option to use buttons only as well. Maybe you can still do the "port"? (I have no idea what the rules say, though)

arzi 2020-10-06 20:13

@nyubi I did the art with GraphicsGame, it's a free sprite editor.

Yeah, might be that the keys would be ok to add, it's more of an accessibility feature anyway. I was also considering full old school Ultima style controls with keys to open doors etc, but didn't have time for that either (and it might have been a bit tedious).

klettari 2020-10-06 21:39

this was fun (even though I didn't managed to beat it)! nice art and colors too!

vcasadei 2020-10-06 22:47

Fun game with nice art and music. I'm particularly not a big fan of the story, but I get it and it matches the game. I like the loops and the attention to detail and consequences of the choices made.

eldar 2020-10-07 02:21

I like the simple, Tim Burton-esque weirdo story. I was excited enough to uncover the ending to go through the loop 3 times (after that I read the walkthrough and realized I just needed to go to a different location to finish).

Critique-wise, the repetition does get a bit annoying. I think allowing the player to hold down directional keys to move would alleviate this a lot.

Story spoilers ahead, read at your own risk!

So I'm not sure whether I quite got all the references - was Titania the demon, and was she intending to loop me until I meet my true soulmate Mem? I don't remember the exact text, but drops vague hints that make me think I either missed some parts of the dialogue, or there is an external reference I don't follow :)

gamebuilder 2020-10-07 23:28

I like this game a lot, even though I had to spend Saturday drunkenly with Matt. Not my idea of a good time. I really wanted Hope. At least you give a second chance...as real life often does. A good lesson. Nice work, mate.

coleslaughter 2020-10-08 05:29

Love the musical motifs in this one. :) This is actually a surprisingly huge game for something that was made in such a short amount of time, nice job! This may be the youngling in me talking, but I do kinda wish I could move around without going hard mode on the WASD keys, but I'll admit there was a certain retro charm to the whole experience. :)

I unfortunately didn't have time to complete the whole game in one sitting, but I hope to come back to this one again soon!

milmalissa 2020-10-08 15:16

That's a nice one, good job! I really like the style of that game and also the music is amazing.

100th-coin 2020-10-08 17:13

Woah, the soundtrack is a bop, and I love the the purple/orange color palette! The story is super well made too. Great work all around!

flawed 2020-10-09 11:29

This is great in a visual novel sort of way. The first demon encounter and the cult part were so unexpectedly hilarious. It was kinda annoying when you missed a step and had to replay the whole week though :p

namidasai 2020-10-09 11:57

Wow, nice entry! That's a lot of content in such a short amount of time. Really like the graphics and audio, nailed the retro/gameboy look there, and I'm a sucker for those! The repetition could be managed a little bit better I feel. Allowing to hold for movement would help. Good job!

unluckyninja 2020-10-09 12:52

I like the music and retro style. But my fingers start aching in few minutes. You really should add a "hold to keep moving" function as a fix.

yword 2020-10-09 15:59

Great narrative, interesting storyline and nice music! ^_^

ramza 2020-10-10 21:36

Very cool game. Nice job! Played it for a quite a while.

podchasov 2020-10-11 04:55

Good game

doctorhummer 2020-10-11 12:35

I loved the art style, it's simple, but enough to tell the story. The music was on point too!

toccio94 2020-10-11 12:38

Nice game, music is good. SFX are a bit loud tho and could be better.

The story was ok with also a cool twist that got me interested in it again just before I was about to be bored. Towards the end it becomes a bit confusing though, it was like I was playing another game all of a sudden.

I don't think I've much more to say about it, it's okay the way it is (apart from little improvements), good work!

Oh and I found a bug: if you ring the bell in the church like on friday, when you go into the church on the monster day he will be already there! Nothing bad happens, it just hits u and teleport you on the stairs of the church.

eldar 2020-10-11 16:01

@toccio94 Oh right I saw this bug too, but at the time thought that it was intended.

caladrius 2020-10-25 14:06

Immediately thought of Ultima when I saw the art, super happy to see that was actually your inspiration!

itsdanidre 2020-10-27 15:55

I think it's been summed up quite a lot. It's unfortunate when you have to replay the entire week for one mistake. Though it was fun uncovering things and repeating. I gave up at the end after about 30 minutes of playing, so I just read the walkthrough instead haha. (edit, I was really close to that ending, wow, nice game!)
