The art style, music, and gameplay are all really good! One thing I didn't like about the gameplay was that the tentacle was a touch too slow for me. I would want to do things very fast but the tentacle was slow moving to the places I wanted to go. Otherwise, it is a really good game!

wiredsound 2020-10-05 19:39

This was great fun! Unlike the person above, I was more or less fine with the speed of the tentacle.

ryan-paton 2020-10-05 21:01

Fun game, I think the idea of using the tentacles is great, though it takes too long to process the foods, eg. scoop the rice, which was a little frustrating

darthone 2020-10-05 21:45

Played as a pair with one person on the mouse and one person on the keyboard. It was pretty fun! Great design!

thingus 2020-10-05 22:28

This is a really good bit of design - I agree with cnewt, if the tenctacles felt a little bit snappier this would be perfect. That's a small tweak, though; I like this a lot.

mikadoh 2020-10-06 07:56

This is a really fun game and it reminds me of a similar sushi game from Miniclip but the tentacles mechanic is something especially interesting!

mog13 2020-10-06 08:54

@ryan-paton Ahh sorry you found the preperation times frustrating. I think next time we will need to spend more time on tutorials and balance for these sort of things as it gets quite lost when your the one play testing and you've been staring at it for 3 days straight.

The intention was to leave one tentacle processing whilst the others get the next things ready. Sort of like juggling but with tentacles and fish

tom-a 2020-10-06 11:48

I was thinking about how to do a 2D tentacle but the way you've implemented it here is fantastic. Props to the music and art too. Great entry and so cool seeing ideas like these come to life. Love it!

tamail 2020-10-06 13:59

Great idea! I had some problems with controls, same as others, but otherwise I liked the game! By the way, in tutorial, the game covers parts of the instructions.

rickropes 2020-10-06 15:46

Very fun game, even if i suck at it, really like the controls and the graphics and the Japanese asthenic. Great job.

skleembof 2020-10-06 15:58

I had a lot of fun with it. Very unique gameplay which at first kind of felt like it wasn't designed for humans but then I started to get the hang of it. Until level 4 where I realized this was indeed made for some non-human species of gamer that can juggle multiple things at once.

Overall a really fun experience but it needs some work on the balance. There was a lot of waiting for plates to arrive which made it impossible to feed some customers in time, but I guess that's my fault since I could always increase the rate at which I made plates.

One thing that could easily be improved is the system for changing tentacles. Maybe color code each tentacle and bind them to specific keys to make it easier. I found it difficult to select the right tentacle since they all looked the same when overlayed and cycling quickly through each one was awkward and imprecise.

callum-craig 2020-10-06 16:19

I enjoyed this game though I wish the tentacles moved a bit faster. Overall really enjoyable, though I think you lowballed the amount of yen earned, ¥100 is like $0.95 lmao, but I can't fault you for unrealistic exchange rates

eugenik 2020-10-07 06:04

This was pretty cool haha :D

adiwan 2020-10-07 07:33

That was a brain twister. No wonder octopi have a small brain in each arm.

jake-white 2020-10-07 10:22

Wow. Incredible, possibly the best game in this jam. I want this to be a full game so bad, with maybe a small control tweak (right click to pick up stuff would be great, since it is sometimes hard to grab stuff so precisely while moving tentacles).

squidzilla 2020-10-07 11:13

Loved it! I got two knives on all maps, so pretty happy about that. The music is AWESOME. Every time coming back to the scores and menu getting this slow bouncy beat with oriental overtones... it just makes me feel like playing a GTA minigame. Awesome game, thanks!

edgeboyo 2020-10-07 11:57

Honestly so fun, made me remember all those forgotten flash games I played as a kid.

Lil problem with the button in the tutorial it seems to appear in the wrong place. Otherwise I couldn't find a fault

caberu 2020-10-07 12:01

Wow great game! It’s a bit hard to take items but the gameplay is still very good! Nice art and music and I realy like how you make the arms!

everedx 2020-10-07 12:04

That what fun! The only critic that I have is that the controls are not so intuitive and sometimes I couldn't put the stuff in the loop.

Well done overall

netmute 2020-10-08 18:46

Super cool graphics and a very polished game  Good job

aimainiac 2020-10-08 20:00

I would definitely play a full version of this game!

lu7cie 2020-10-09 12:17

Really funny game ! Really hard to play, but really funny ! Good job !

unimaginable-code-studios 2020-10-09 20:20

Nice game! Its funny you are an octopus!!!! Great job!!

zaibakk 2020-10-10 17:46

I don't really know how this game would fit theme, but it is one of the greatest games I tried so far! Really nice job!

merlinnsound 2020-10-10 20:25

The controls felt a bit clumsy in this game. Sorry I didn't like it very much. Maybe not my genre.

sophiemae0 2020-10-10 21:14

I love how you incorporated the theme with this game. It was super clever! The music and the graphics were on point. It took me while to understand the point of tentacles, maybe introduce the second one once there is more work to do so it makes sense. There was something frustration about the mechanics, it did not feel smooth. I think with some more polish this could be a really addictive game. Great job :)

thomas-volpato 2020-10-10 21:15

That is really different, great job with the game. Just not for me. I cant do two thing at the same time :'(

ale 2020-10-10 21:50

Wow!!! That was great! The gameplay was really difficult, but all of the systems worked together perfectly. I think that this would be more fun if you scaled back the difficulty, or ramped it up more slowly. Even if you got rid of the timers completely and just turned this into a chill cooking/sandbox game, I think it would be a solid product.

gabriel-dias-oliveira-de-almeida 2020-10-10 22:43

I needed to play the tutorial to understand everything, because there are a lot of information! This game is really different, it's a really hard game but when you get the commands it's great, love the humor!

overlook-studios 2020-10-11 01:44

Very interesting idea, I really liked the concept of multi-tasking and having to plan ahead with the next dishes. It definitely has a learning curve, the addition of a tutorial was very much needed and very much appreciated! It was a good idea to have the tools required to process the different types of ingredients but having to constantly move the tools off the material after processsing it and having to switch to a different tentacle to pick it up was kind of frustrating. I think that would be fine if I could drop the tool anywhere but since I had to drop it specifically on a table (which if there was no table I'd have to toss on the conveyor belt) which also added some unnecessary obstacles. Great idea and well put together!

smarto-club 2020-10-11 14:04

Definitely one of the funnest games I've played so far! It seems simple of first but the systems interact in fun ways (for example, I'd try to serve a customer but then a new customer would suddenly appear and "steal" the food) and they have interesting twists that add strategy (the different length tentacles was a great decision). With clearer GUI and some better controls (having numbered shortcuts to choose a tentacle would be great) this could be a really addicting game.

robonaut121 2020-10-11 17:50

One of the most polished games I've seen this Ludum Dare. I was pretty bad at it, so it wasn't that fun for me, but great artstyle, sound effects (especially the "mmm" sound effect), music and UI!

simplepotential 2020-10-11 20:29

Neat game. Controls were hard to understand at first so I'm really glad there was a tutorial. Transitions were good. Controls were a bit difficult for me but like I said, tutorial made it easier. Overall pretty well thought out game for a jam

macaroni-dev 2020-10-11 20:57

The parallelism of the controls was quite fun. It was enjoyable to try to get into a groove. Kind of like playing Overcooked by myself :)

netmute 2020-10-12 06:37

In addition to my original comment: I really like the Factorio conveyor belts

rolly 2020-10-12 14:37

It's a very original idea, and it's perfectly executed! I liked everything about your game: the visuals, the music, the mechanic! Unfortunately, it became quickly too complicated for my poor little brain to process quickly enough x)

While playing, I thought it would be awesome if we could "program" the tentacles, pressing a button to start recording, then again to stop recording. The tentacle would then loop (one more for the theme!) through the script and all you have to do with the last tentacle is to create the dishes depending on the requests and serve! That would be awesome.

Great entry, hope you keep working on it!

deathstorm 2020-10-16 06:09

A great Concept and great idea. The Controlls are working suprisingly well and the flow is really cool.

The Graphics are really cool and especially such a good Tutorial for a LD is awesome.

Well Done great work.

coleslaughter 2020-10-18 21:23

[We played your game on stream this past weekend!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/772739699?t=04h41m49s)

This was a super neat entry! I do think that maybe there's a *bit* too much going on all at once sometimes, but at the same time I think it adds to that chaotic "Overcooked" energy that it seems like you were going for. I think with a bit more polish and playtesting, this could make for a super fun party game to maybe play with friends!
