This game is pretty ok. Maybe a little too much walking or Ludum Dare short attention span made me quit.

jeremia 2020-10-06 12:18

Cool game!

there are a few things I want to adress:

after picking up a confidential note, in the upper left corner of the building (my task was to print documents) I stopped playing.

The Lighting wasn't very good; I did not see the shredder at all the first time it was mentioned and I only saw the plants because they had a yellow outline.

At first I did not know that there where keycards lying around, so I thought these doors are locked for the day.

I also took quite some time to realise that I have to go through the guarded areas to get to the conference rooms and where they were located.

vphyre 2020-10-06 16:51

Very interesting the proposal of the game. I liked the mechanics. Congratulations.

gonzalol 2020-10-06 16:57

Nice game, I like the mechanics and the graphics. Didn't really get the theme there.

anrqangel 2020-10-06 20:08

Liking this game, few bugs aside.. Good graphics style, kept me busy walking around looking for the conference rooms.. good overall concept.. Any specific reason why my brother's AV blocked/flagged the game?

backurio 2020-10-06 20:49

@anrqangel Yeah there are some bugs because time management was again a problem, but we are glad that you still liked our game. I also have a friend who's antivirus program flagged the game, but I think this is a problem with several games. Your AV program just wants to protect you from unpacking random .zip files. I think it should not be a problem if you use the itch.io app to install the game.

backurio 2020-10-06 22:50

@gonzalol Our plan was to implement the theme in several ways. First of all, we interpreted "Stuck in a loop" with "being in the loop" which means that you are in the inner circle of the government, which you are infiltrating as a whistleblower after you find the documents in the first level (tutorial). The second loop is that you are playing the same level/layout all over again. The final loop is that after you helped stop the current government that everything is the same with the next one which is why our game loops around to the first level. In addition, the start menu is also a loop

I have to admit that we overshoot with the target a little bit and that we ran out of time to properly communicate the story. The level was way to big and you don't know where to go.

fax 2020-10-07 07:40

Big game with deep background for this jam. Great job and congratulations to the entire team. I would appreciate ZQSD support (like double bind W to Z and A to Q). Anyway, great and clean realisation.

polylabs 2020-10-07 07:52

@fax Thanks a lot. It didn't turn out 100% like we excepted, but in the end time was a bit of a problem (again).

backurio 2020-10-07 08:55

@fax I was really confused by another game, that used this scheme for controls, because I am only used to WASD (like many others). Big thank you for your feedback because I would have never thought about making the game functional for an AZERTY keyboard. Will do this from now on. Btw. controller support was planned for the game, but unfortunately dropped to low priority due to other issues popping up. The post-jam version will have both, AZERTY compatibility and controller support.

fax 2020-10-07 09:05

It's just...you don't have to make a release for AZERTY, just bind Q and Z to your A and W and it works. Have a look on my game. I just make Q=A and W=Z and it works ;).

backurio 2020-10-07 10:25

@fax Yes, that's the easy way, but I would like to have a proper look into keyboard layouts so that I don't run into any other conflicts. Also for future games. It's not about making any quick fixes now, it's about doing things properly and learning for the future.

I also have to check if there is an easy solution with the new Unity input system.

nusan 2020-10-08 22:32

A lot of work for this game, pretty impressive mood and lots of details (I love the person rotating in their chair all day) and the mechanics are well done. I think a few easy things could make it better, like displaying somewhere an icon for the key you picked and leaving the color on the door when you take a key, because it's a good indicator of somewhere you didn't go, and remembering which door you couldn't pass before is hard. I had a softlock twice by trying to pick the document in the top just above the "rotating chair person" in the level 3 I think? I retry 2 times and ended up finishing without picking that document. The switch off light mechanics is interesting but the change of lighting is not very obvious visually. I think the color keys should be more easilly visible because pixel hunting is not that fun in a so large level. The difficulty should come more from the sneaking than from pixel hunting in my opinion. Anyway, awesome work, I liked the game a lot!

tinykidtoo 2020-10-08 23:42

I like the atmosphere between the music and the mysterious corruption. A really fun mood overall. The only issue is I got lost for quite a while in level 2 looking for the orange keycard. I missed it on the table, might need to be bigger. But I still had a lot of fun.

firetwoonenine 2020-10-09 00:39

Nice concept for a game. Maybe a bit too slow paced for people expecting quick little games like most that get entered into LD.

The line of vision mechanic seems to be a little bugged, many times I got caught by someone who was on the other side of a solid wall.

manusaiz 2020-10-09 01:14

Hey it's impressive how you implemented so much content and patrols in a couple days.

· Didn't quite get the theme.

· I didn't know what to do after the third day, didn't seem to find the correct door.

· Overall nice entry, there are a lots of things in the game for such short time.

backurio 2020-10-09 09:08

@nusan @tinykidtoo @firetwoonenine @manusaiz

Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm really impressed that you made it so far into the game, because as some of you mentioned, the game is too slow paced for the short attention span of game jam players  Yes, the game has quite some features, a lot of assets and a (too) big map with few stuff to do and playing "Where's Waldo" with keycards :see_no_evil:

We put our goals too high and although having 8 people, we missed the role of a project manager that would have defined milestones within the project and make everybody focus on completing them. We had a very stressful last day, where we put everything together and didn't find much time to balance and playtest the game. But, we learned that this role is crucial with this size of a team and we won't make this mistake again for the next jam.

Btw. We are already working on a post-jam version, because we want to show off our skills and have a game that we can be 100% proud of :sunglasses:

Checkout my twitter if you want to see some sneak peeks of how the game should have looked if we had a better organization and a little more time https://twitter.com/FireTotemGames

Oh snap, I like the voice acting! There were definitely times where i got lost in the huge complex of rooms and doors, but that just goes to show how much work was put into this game! The map is large and full of... shredders. I enjoyed the running gag of the main character pointing out how many paper shredders the office had, fun stuff! Seriously great work all around!

mahalis 2020-10-10 17:46

This is incredibly impressive—I can’t believe how much y’all built in a weekend. It was a little hard to tell what I was meant to do; I wandered around the second level a bunch, dodging guards (?) etc., but I didn’t find any keys or anything that would get me closer to the conference rooms. I think with some more patience I could probably have figured it out, though. Nice work!

kaafirookie 2020-10-10 18:04

This game is pretty good, exploration is being used in the game to reveal the map and story. I like it, now I can see how people can get lost and will quit, there are few people who wouldn't mind it, although few things could have been added to make it more fun.

Here are few thing I could think of - A mini-map, you can have a stylized take on this, maybe our protagonist can steal a blueprint in an early mission, or have a guy steal it for you and you need to collect it from him ( so you reveal the map slowly) - The enemies could sometimes see though the wall, not a jam breaker, but something to fix. - Make the objects and places a bit more clear, use the environment to name blocks, rooms and all. - Add sneaking, something I wanted badly so if far off or behind something, if we sneak we shouldn't be detected.

I like the voice acting and the humor was right up my alley! ( I wonder if the janitor was as inside joke :P)

The music was pretty good and I would suggest you to try adding vertical and horizontal music, really helps in a sneak em up!

As for the artwork, It was pretty good for the mood of the game, the environment felt lived enough but had a lot of dead-ends( avoid them at all cost) make your levels like Swiss Cheese, holes to navigate through easily, I can see that you guys tried that to an extend, but the developers hand must do some more magic to help the player!

Congratulations to the entire team and I wish you all best of luck for the future projects!

krysh 2020-10-11 12:10

Really well put together game and can be pretty tough! I think it would be helpful to have a map of some sort or objective markers or at least labels on the room. It was quite hard to figure out where to go sometimes especially given that there's so many rooms. Otherwise really cool!

remus-rain 2020-10-11 15:45

Great job on the game! Especially the graphics are very nice! Super impressive that you made all these models in such a short amount of time.

backurio 2020-10-11 22:36

@blobo @mahalis @kaafirookie @krysh @remus-rain Big thank you to all of you. Your feedback means a lot to us, especially because we are not 100% happy with how the game turned out. We again had a very crunchy finish and a lot of polishing and balancing tasks were not finished. It is nice to hear that you guys still had fun playing the game and hearing the voice acting.

@kaafirookie Maybe it was an inside joke. Maybe not.

We are already working on an updated version to really show off the awesome artwork and the missing voice lines that unfortunately didn't make it into the game. Additionally, some bugs will be fixed that caused the game to freeze. If we are really motivated we will also update the map and objectives to make the levels more interesting and to avoid getting lost with no clear indication where to go.

Stay tuned and follow my Twitter if you want to get updates on the game. You can also follow me on ldjam if you want.

Nice game! The models and game space is impressive given the time. I liked the music and the main menu too. Voice acting isn't something you normally see in LD games either, so that's cool!

I found it quite difficult to work out what to do, or how I was supposed to achieve it. The detection felt a bit unforgiving too - a couple of times I thought I would make it out of the detection zone in time but got stopped in my tracks.

spawncampgames 2020-10-14 20:18

Props for the voice acting :) There was times when the instruction prompt would get hidden by the ui because of them both being white.. My only critique. Good game..

hakunasoft 2020-10-19 15:47

Nice game! A little bit confusing at some times, but it have an interesting history.
