nice game, enjoyed the speedup when entering a large ring

seskon 2020-10-05 10:06

I liked the game, looks polished, would like to see some more variation tho

lilkrit 2020-10-19 15:23

Very cool game, it has speedrunning potential!

savvy-community 2020-10-19 15:28

Very nice minimalistic game! The one-key control style works nicely and trying to make a better time each time is fun! Since it's based on being fast, a "fast reset" button would have been enjoyable after a few times trying hard to get one *perfect* and making a small mistake :)! Nice potential as a one-button mobile game maybe? Congrats :)

PS: I think our time on LVL 5 is close to perfect Screenshot 2020-10-19 at 17.26.36.png

Very cool little game! Its nice that there is an option to mute the sound! Altough i liked the sound, it got a bit annoying over time.

pixelpaw 2020-10-19 16:04

Cool concept. Fits the theme just right.

ptsnoop 2020-10-19 16:23

In a weird kind of way, reminds me a bit of Pac Man.

It might be worth adding in some times to beat - this one felt like a much better game once I started trying to beat @savvy-community 's high scores. Didn't quite manage to beat their time for Level 5, but I got pretty close (and matched or beat the others): CrystalRacerHighScores.png

Really fun game, some online highscore would be great. whats your personal best?

natpat 2020-10-19 16:37

Interesting concept! Nice blend of puzzle (trying to work out the best route) and execution. I tried a few of the levels multiple times to get good scores. A button to reset when you know you messed up would be a good idea. Perhaps also being a little more forgiving on the button press (coyote time!) would have made it slightly less frustrating.

Thanks for all the comments!

Quite a lot of those are issues we tried to fine tune to the last minute. Especially the moment when you have to press the key, how much leeway do we give there.

My personal bests aren't currently applicable, as they were run when the levels weren't in their final form yet

I'll have to play and post my scores later on today

Good!

tannimun 2020-10-21 14:48

Nice! This would work really well on mobile I think. I don't know if it was just me, or your intention? but I would love to be able to buffer inputs. So if I press space once it sets the ship in "turn mode", and if I press again it cancels. It is already stressful to try and figure out the optimal route and I think it would feel more relaxed and smooth that way. Anyway, nice little entry!

hunttis 2020-10-21 14:54

@tannimun Yes, we considered (and tested) turning on "track change" mode, but it sometimes made it difficult in levels that have intersections close to each other, especially if the next ring has a intersection right after you change. It's likely to be the right choice if we go forward with developing this game further, thanks for the great feedback

tannimun 2020-10-21 15:00

@hunttis Okey cool. If you continue to polish a bit more, I would love to see something like a different colored ring that travels counter-clockwise

hunttis 2020-10-21 15:16

@tannimun We already have plans for the gameplay to remain the same, but have tracks that are NOT ONLY CIRCLES! :scream:

lajazuve 2020-10-21 15:21

interesting idea, it's not simple to analyse and understand what is the most fast way, good for try hard, maybe youc an find a way for expand the concept? i don't know what. may be a springboard for jump tout a circle not connected directly or segment of a circle to avoid because he slowed down ? i like your game, bravo !

zoeagxn 2020-10-21 15:22

I really enjoyed this, the fast paced playing while trying to find the optimal path, and trying to beat highscores with a quick turn around time feels really good.

knatt 2020-10-21 15:30

I had a blast with this game, the real fun is trying to beat yourself. One thing I really wish was in there was a quicker way to restart the level. There were times where I knew I messed up my run time, but I needed to finish the level befor another try. I would have prefeard to just abandon the run Highscore.png

hunttis 2020-10-21 15:37

@knatt Yeah, I knew I should've put that in! The fastest way to retry is probably to refresh the browser, since as a phaser game it loads really fast

arron-fowler 2020-10-21 15:42

I really enjoyed this game. Totallyu worth taking further as I was left wanting more. Constructive feedback is it would have read better if the colour of the gems was further away from the track colour. Minor but I found my eyes lost the prize on occasion. Great job

hunttis 2020-10-21 15:47

@arron-fowler Yeah, they definitely should've stood out more, maybe even as single-color sprites, as the visuals are rather noisy with the tracks rotating and all that. Cheers!

corrupt-spaghetti 2020-10-21 16:23

Fun little game. It was fun trying to figure out the best route through each level. Very neat concept! here's my best times LD47 crystal racer scores 10-21-20.png

super-hadoken 2020-10-21 16:34

Awesome game. Simple premise, really good fun. A quick restart button would be handy. download.png

vphyre 2020-10-21 18:15

Wow, it's an excellent and creative casual game! I see a lot of potential in your idea. The controls are simple and extremely functional. It is very motivating to try to improve your time. The graphics are simple, but functional, as well as the sound. I really liked your interpretation of the theme. I hope you continue to work on this project, to make it bigger. Congratulations.

aurel 2020-10-27 06:58

An interesting take, for sure, that was well executed. I think like other commenters have mentioned, the addition of a restart button could be really helpful if you're trying to grind for a high score.
