I couldn't figure out how to complete a level either, but it looks fantastic. Nice work.
I like the world a la Super Mario Galaxy style. Nice execution.
This is fantastic. I'd have loved a fixed number of pieces per round (penalty for what is left on the board when you run out), then give a new board for the next round etc... Maybe add a timer as well. The ability to lose (and eventually you'll always lose) would give it some nice re-playability.
The ending is fantastic. =) I couldn't get the early stages when you collect atoms to work with the mouse. (I'm using Chrome on OS/X)
Hah, not bad.
Great entry. Minor improvements: some visual indicator as to how close the bomb is to blow up (maybe growing slightly or changing color ala bomberman) and that the movement would be a little more forgiving.
Would've loved to see the humans frown when they were getting close to death =). Also, another fun idea would be some sort of disaster (like fire/tornado etc) like simcity style. Once you've "won"; enjoy wreaking havoc.
The moody texture style was my favorite part of the game. Took me a while to realize I was supposed to destroy all of those white boxes in the minigame by clicking. I thought, man it's hard to navigate around all of these things.
=( Mac please! It looks fun; I'd really like to play this one.
Mac only here. Next time include a makefile or some sort of readme how to build it, I tried but don't have SFML.
I really like the concept. The puzzles are a lot more challenging than I expected. I wish when you die you could restart on the current puzzle and not from the beginning. I'll never be able to win cause of the trial and error restart time =).
Fantastic work.
It ran crazy fast for me and it was hard to position Godzilla where I wanted it. Once the tab was closed the music kept playing. Awesome music though! Seems fun -- locked up on lvl 4 for me for some reason.
I wish some of the collision logic was a bit more forgiving; I kept making the same mistakes over and over.
Doesn't seem to work in os/x 10.7.3 (post-contest neither)
It reminds me of a very short short story:
For sale: baby shoes; never worn.
The point is that you tried to make something, am I right or am I right? =)
You should definitely code this up!
On OSX, flickers like crazy and it has no real idea where my mouse is. It was hard to play much more past the first couple housing units.
World kept spinning when I went to select what to build next.
This is a very cool game idea. Nice job.
I love the music. Well done!
You should upload a gameplay video. Mac only here.
Fantastic artistic concept.
Quite enjoyable. For some reason chrome kept telling me it was unresponsive but it was very responsive. Otherwise it was fantastic.
Mac please seconded! =)
I'd love to play this, but I have no Windows machines at home. (Mac here)
I'd love to see a Mac version.
Neat little game. I loved the music, mood, and story. The concept of optimizing four people's worth of work was interesting too.
The art style is unique and very likeable.
Solid gameplay =)
Alright, I'll try to reduce the size of the entry. I couldn't figure out how to play the music as mp3's during the competition, but it looks like it might be more straightforward than I had thought.
Ok, I figured out how to play MP3's, unfortunately everyone will get a security warning. I also figured out how to use ProGuard to reduce the total size of my jar. Now it's just under 1MB instead of near 30MB. Fantastic. Now you may try to enjoy my game =)
I had some ideas that I believe were going to be fantastic, but were clearly out of scope. Here are some of the ideas:
1) Whenever you enter an area that appears to be a room (i.e. of some reasonable size (not too big) and every exit is only one block wide) then place down a handful of doors and spawn enemies at a slightly higher level than you. This could only happen once per area and it could drop a particularly nice power-up.
2) I was going to introduce locks that require you to change your shape or color to something specific to unlock ... so you'd have to go kill a handful of enemies of that shape or color before one would drop that "program"/"power-up".
Yeah that security warning is to play mp3's... I'll have to try and look and see if there is yet another library.
Thanks for the encouragement! =) I am interested in finishing it up -- just need to find some extra time first =).
If the link doesn't seem to work for you please post OS / Browser so that I can try to track down the issue. I'm hosting it on github and got the file size down to 1MB, as far as I'm aware it should work fine anywhere you can run a java applet.
