LD23 — Tiny World

The Small World of Professor Strange by Will Edwards 2012-04-25T14:50:00

Really interesting way of combining text adventure with graphics, uncovering areas as you explore. I wish that the text didn't cover up the area you are in, though; perhaps a static box at the bottom would have worked better? To indicate the area you are in, maybe an outline or even a character?

Please work on this more! It has so much potential!

Wow, this looks great! Quirky, humorous, and aesthetically beautiful. However, I have to jump on the keyboard-interaction bandwagon: I couldn't remember all of those keys! Sometimes "realism" isn't worth sticking to, especially for something like this where there are over 1000 games to check out. If something about your game bugs someone, they'll just stop playing it and move on to the next one.

*Updated the description a little, listed development tools.

Thank you all for your comments. I am aware of these problems and I'll definitely work on these issues after the judging is complete.

NefariousZhen, great suggestions! Could possibly turn this into something like level-based puzzles instead of randomly-generated, so you would have to figure out what to place where to complete the level.

Your thumbnail is eye-catching. This looks like a lot of fun, but I'm on a mac. :(

Great polished game for 48 hours! Excellent scope, for sure. Perfect for this sort of short game dev challenge.

As you've already noted, the web tutorial doesn't work, but I think I got the gist of it. Music sounded at first like it was corrupted, but then I realized that's what it's supposed to sound like. Also, a larger window would have helped, I think. Good job overall!

Please add a description on this page! Interesting idea, though it crashed my browser (Firefox 11, Mac 10.6) and the music kept playing. The music was pretty good, though.

I think a much smaller character and slower movement would help make things more manageable. The asteroids could also start out smaller and thus allow you to see more of the game field.

Nanobot Adventures by mattperrin 2012-04-25T17:33:00

Fun concept. Didn't know what I was supposed to be looking for, though, but I did randomly stumble upon an area that was "repairable" and I suddenly won. Integrating some sort of beacon on the "map" and having multiple locations that need repairs may help with this. Also, an indication of your HP would be helpful, and along those lines, being able to "upgrade" after "salvaging" parts from defeated enemies (instead of getting exp) would make this much more immersive. Good work!

Love the music! SimAnt was one of my favorite DOS games back in the day. I wish the movement controls were mouse-based instead of WASD; it was strange seeing all of the other ants moving in straight lines while I had to move at 45° or 90° angles.

Just missing some music, which, judging from the art style, probably would have been awesome. Great job!

That's really mindboggling that a game actually IN the favicon is possible. Did you look at this for inspiration? http://www.p01.org/releases/DEFENDER_of_the_favicon/

Not sure how well this fits the theme, but it is fun and your ideas for further development sound really interesting. The music, while repetitive, fit the environment very well. The x button did nothing for me, no menu like it mentions in the help. You should definitely finish this after the compo!
