Not a very solid game ):
I never got to see the mechanics in action because, well, I just jumped around and nothing seemed to hurt me, making the trip to the exit terribly easy.
Didn't rate because I don't have a lot to base it on ):
Alan Lynn:
The gunner enemies only fly so high when killed, and the boxy orange guys (the ones who look like you) need to be in a certain state to be killed.
To everyone else, thank you :D I am happy for this great reception. Half of me wants to respond to every person ever, and the other half tells me not to.
So anyway: It's good to see so many people enjoying it! Some might not be able to get the hang of it but I don't think there's anything I can do about that ._. If you don't enjoy it enough to learn (or maybe it's just a real pain in the ass!) then maybe I'll whip up a video or something of me beating the game.
I dunno! I have run out of things to say, I think.
Regardless of its unfinishedness, it's more fun than all of the other LD games I've played so far!
Waves of enemies tended to kill themselves fairly quickly but I loved the ability to make enemies kill themselves on 'corpses' lying around the screen.
Error compiling shader ):
Looks interesting, though.
That was pretty fun! Good at making me feel like I'm doing something incredibly slick when all I'm really doing is moving trampolines around :D
I promise you all (stevejohnson in particular, though) that there is no place from which you can fall and then never get back up and/or out of.
Endurion: Consider the End-Of-Game hint to contain multiple meanings -- and express multiple hints through only one English sentence -- and perhaps you will find these other secrets where YOU would not have first considered to look!
Also, you have taken a nice first step in the right direction in your comment :3
Jerm: Oh shit! Source code! It's up now, thanks for reminding me >_<
In response to your 'not well executed' remark, it was my goal to make a game where there would ALWAYS be something more to discover. Unfortunately, a 48-hour period wasn't the best time period in which to do something as epic as that, but with enigma after hidden enigma all stacked on top of each other, I think I can safely say that there's almost nobody who has seen everything, and that very few people WILL see everything.
I wish I'd had enough time to make everything drastically more interesting but sadly I ended up finishing with a lovely but painfully empty little cave system :)
Tom 7: Holy shit! <3
First off, just to set the tone right: I don't care much about creating a game to win a contest, or to appeal gratuitously to a general audience -- a single reaction such as yours is more important than either of these.
As for the music: It's strictly an irritating work-around to the issue of loading maps, sorry! I would have pre-loaded maps at the beginning of the game, but doing that takes some time and I didn't have the time to make a real reset button (refreshing and replaying every time is an important aspect, and it would have become incredibly annoying).
As for the blanking bug: Is that what causes it? Shoot! I really wanted to fix that, but I decided it was rare enough to not fix (especially given I was running out of time, and I couldn't even fathom the cause).
There are certainly some red herrings! Some things are useless, and some paths lead to nowhere. Some of these things are this way on purpose, and others ended up as such simply due to a lack of time ):
The drawing you've made is really amazing and I'm so glad you scanned it to show! :D
~
I don't even know what to say from here! You've done something incredible (I really wondered if anyone would discover it all) and have left me some really great feedback (and, well, a good feeling inside of me).
Consider this game or this KIND of game, at least, on my 'to revisit' list.
~
P.S. Holy shit you made 'Disco? Very!' :3
Why stamina? ):
Very disheartening to be faced with a huge wall of earth, a stamina-draining pick, and no alternative route.
Exploration was kinda cool otherwise? Chests tended to be full of boring level-up stuff, though.
p.s. kinda annoying that you MUST exit game via stairs, or task manager
This game was pretty solid but not very interesting. I was not driven to explore! Included 'combat' was not intriguing enough (or murderous enough, says the person beside me) to hold my attention for very long?
I'm not even sure what I'm doing it or why I'm doing it but I desire to not stop.
How the hell did I get a pet satellite to orbit me? <3
I'm not sure what I discovered, but I found that... incredibly satisfying. And more so than for anything else I've touched for rating thus far, I felt like I had discovered -something-.
Gornova, pdyxs, future players: Did you escape?
There are some reasons for the in-game level variety (the multiple levels are very much the same flavour -- no need to pad out the game with very similar levels, but can replay to do them puzzles again) as well as for the fact that you must play through the game in a strictly linear order.
But really. LD's theme is escape; did you?
James, James, James. The escape you're looking for is not so superficial :)
--> Though to be honest I considered that possibility in addition to the current escapes you can pull off.
If you're still motivated enough, do some more poking around! Don't let the game lead you from level to level by the nose!
God no don't add text
That was amazing.
aaa this is great <3 I beat it on my second try, and didn't realize initially the win condition (three SOS at the same time) the first time. SO I TOTALLY BEAT IT ON MY FIRST TRY.
Super neat stuff to build. My only complain with the control scheme is that it's a little hard sometimes to build the right thing at high research levels, and sometimes it's hard to build things in the right place when the hated rock gets all crowded and shit.
uh, but it's awesome. everyone who reads this comment: you should play this game.
467 seconds.
22 points!
That wasn't a very quality comment. I think the number of control variants were pretty good, honestly! It could do with maybe new spaces to explore, but the level swapping is great :)
Was it intentional that you put the hardest mode first :P
(is it always black first?)
i don't believe you! odd scores aren't even possible you jerk
It was a good attempt - lots of the balance was broken (because there's no reload/cooldown of the missile launchers, for example, T1 was almost exactly as good as T6) and nobody stays on long enough to actually get into a battle with someone else ... sadly
BUT really good try? And impressive that you got such infrastructure done in such a small amount of time.
Cloaking device and scans would make finding people interesting in 26x26x26 space, but you still need simultaneous players or at least custom automated defenses or somethin!
oh, and ... I couldn't see the equipment bar at the top of the screen? It simply didn't show up. I could still play by pressing 1-8 and seeing what the item info window showed tho.
thanks for all your responses! :D backwards,
There are just those numbered endings (you got 'em all)!
I'm really shocked nobody liked #2 the most - I do, and this has me wondering if I have bad taste.
Thanks Pixelulsar! This has actually been an idea very loosely floating in the back of my mind for a long long time... so I'm glad I got it out.
Jupiter, cool video! :D & thanks! (I doubt you'll come back to see this, but... your voice was a little inaudible over the first game!)
arrogant.gamer: thanks for sharing your thought process going though this sword game :3 Heavy Sword is really cool, and I love the thought that this and Notes might take place in the same world o:
rxi, There's sound in a new version - not the compo version, but it does really add to it! Thanks for your comments.
khahem I just noticed you said #2 is your favourite! yayyyy
I'm glad that you felt cowardly choosing the easy way out x)
Hold on, so did Jakub. I'm just not perceptive.
Thanks Loren & Alan (hahaha Alan you didn't notice it was mine x3 honestly that's awesome)
ok
too much comment reply, sorry if I didn't respond to you personally u_u
also: totally not inspired by Nuclear Throne. It's a cool game but I honestly can't see the similarities o-o
I liked how, eventually, I realized that if I shot the Earth I didn't kill THAT many people, much better than letting a little asteroid through.
Still didn't beat it - but I got really damn close ]:
