I found this to be a pretty good stealth challenge, it required some trial and error to beat it. I think the visual style could be more appealing but it was easy to understand. Did you make the music yourself?

endlessplumber 2017-05-02 03:49

Decent stealth chall-inja.

Guards ninjastandably have X-ray vision and can also detect sneaky shinobi right behind them, even if they're not touching. Lesser reviewers might chalk it up to bad game nin-chanics, but I know they will stop at nothing to keep you from your Ninjestiny!

tommyflower 2017-05-02 07:49

Hello ninja! I loved the different levels of difficulty and the story balloons. The music is engaging. I would just adjust the graphics to match more the story you are telling and the environment. Ninjely done!

doomshmuck 2017-05-02 13:08

Thanks guys! The music was done with https://www.audiotool.com, I didnt make the samples, but the composition was done through there. I can opt out of the music if that is against the rules (sorry, first ld for me). And yeah, the visuals are definitely my weak point.

The xray vision was something I wanted to fix but unfortunately ran out of time. Ah well, that's a game jam for you I suppose.

Pretty fun gameplay and nice music and sound effects that I think fit really well. Sometimes seems like I shouldn't be getting caught when I am but maybe that's my bad. One thing I would have improved on if I were you would be the models and assets.

fueelin 2017-05-05 04:49

It seemed to bug out on the second level? I lose after a few seconds every time in spite of not being in their site cones...

madmaw 2017-05-05 05:03

The background music stood out to me here, very rare in a Compo entry. I would have liked to have been able to kill or knock out the guards when I got up behind them, but I'm not very good at stealth games so perhaps that's not good advice :D

geared-games 2017-05-05 07:53

It felt like the guards could see me through walls sometimes, the gameplay was kind of inconsistent and felt a bit unfair because of that from time to time.

It was kind of fun figuring out how to complete the levels as you made some intereseting challenges.

Oh and I really dig the music and the sound effects!

smiling-cat-entertainment 2017-05-05 11:10

This is a nice little adventure with a good sense of humor and groovy music. It caught me off guard for a moment that the enemies could see through walls, but once I figured that out I was able to cope. Good job!

gurbx 2017-05-05 11:32

The humor is nice, but it's a little bit annoying that the guards can see you through the walls. Other than that it's a nice little stealth game.

adroitconceptions 2017-05-06 01:07

annoying that the guards can see through walls. would also be nice if the 'you were seen' wasn't so delayed from actually being seen.

doomshmuck 2017-05-06 14:02

Thanks guys! I am working on some post LD improvements (level loading for now, but also hope to tackle the graphics and the X-ray vision). I tried to design the levels around that bug, but in retrospect, that probably should have been something I tried to fix. Thanks for the feedback!

stending 2017-05-08 10:49

Pretty fun! A bit hard due to the hitbox bug, but I managed to get to the 5th level after many tries! But it's still well-done! Maybe consider adding more polish to the game for the Post-LD version, like adding juicy transition between levels, after main menu, or when the player die, etc...

Anyway good entry, good luck for the next! =)

blaster391 2017-05-08 19:08

The music is top notch, the ninja wordplay is... interesting.

As for the gameplay, it would have been really good except for a few issues, the cone of view for the enemies doesn't quite line up with the actual detection range. But the more glaring issue is that enemies can see you through walls, it makes some of the solutions to levels a bit weird.

levidsmith 2017-05-12 05:03

I liked the AI of the characters in this game. Nice unique feel and story. Sometimes it reminded me of the old Batman show from 1960s.

porcus-pie 2017-05-12 07:03

The concept and controls were pretty good, and it did feel rather cheesy with its humour (in a good way). I did find that the line of sight wasn't done very well in parts however, as there would be times where I would be completely behind a wall and they still saw me. Other than that the only thing I can say would be that the graphics could be improved slightly, and despite its flaws I do kind of wish there were more levels, as it was still quite fun.

binaryferret 2017-05-12 07:17

Nice job! I like stealth games and I thought you did a good job! This was all done for the compo as well so extra points there.

The game controls were intuitive, and the game play was graspable straight away. You conveyed the core aspects visually well so it was easy to see what was what. I had a lot of fun playing this game, and that's the core thing - you got the core concepts across for your game and I'd like to see it expanded.

Also I liked the floor designs, increased in difficulty over time but this made it more fun for me.

Thanks for creating and sharing! Also congrats for getting all this into the comp!

digitaldude555 2017-05-12 13:34

My favorite part is the music and sound effects, gameplay wasn't too frustrating even though I had to retry one level 10 times, problem is that the enemies can see through walls with the cone of vision. Art is okay, the enemies look a bit like spiders to me.

shubham-gupta 2017-05-12 13:41

Concept, controls and music are very nice...the ability of enemies to see through walls and some bugs in game makes it bit annoying. Otherwise a great job

veralos 2017-05-12 14:41

The music is pretty nice and the sounds work well. The graphics aren't so great, but at the very least it's easy to tell what everything does by looking at it. I like the idea of the stealth gameplay and it sort of works here, but there are some questionable things. I find it strange how the enemies can see through walls - it leads to some unintuitive gameplay. There is also a lot of waiting for enemies to move involved in the game. Perhaps there could be some way to temporarily speed up the game so you don't have to wait so much?

agee1981 2017-05-14 15:21

Interesting, I actually had to use my brain for a few moments there. Good little puzzle stealth title. Audio was nice, graphics could perhaps use a little work but otherwise, great attempt.

stuntddude 2017-05-15 08:54

You need to fix your hitboxes. I've been whacked by a guard when I was visibly way outside the range of his radar (which I can only assume is some form of pointedly useless radar and not vision because it goes through walls), presumably because the hitbox is larger than the visible portion of the sprite. The "whack" screen could use to be quicker, as most players will prefer to get right back into the action and don't want to have to wait around for no reason. The text between levels disappears too quickly (rule of thumb: it should stick around for at least as long as it takes for you to *slowly* read all of it out loud), and should probably be skippable. Also, your title screen does not look like a face. It looks like a butt with eyes.

Other than that, it's pretty good.

highlyinteractive 2017-05-19 18:16

This was a lot of fun, although it would be great if the text screens could be clicked to skip - they sort of slow down the game. I liked the music as well. Overall, really nice game!
