Wow, great game - my brain is all mushy now. Is that an original concept? It's very cool. I feel like there were too many concepts introduced in a row without giving a chance to try them out - like, after introducing the basic rules of color splitting, there should be a few levels of just this before you introduce the next lot of mechanics... but that's a minor nitpick, it was really cool!

madmaw 2017-05-02 00:05

@mrspeaker as far as I know, it's an original concept, but I also once thought I'd invented ebay, so who really knows. Thanks for the feedback on the difficulty curve, I've been wondering about that exact thing

akirassasin 2017-05-02 03:02

Very fun and challenging game - it's the LD38 entry that I spend the most time having fun! Almost finished the game but accidentally hit restart level, you might want to add a confirmation screen.

makenai 2017-05-02 04:23

What a great idea for a puzzle game! I get the concept, but there were a few times where I got Victory, but didn't know why. :D Maybe I'm just bad at color theory and lucky.

kodiqi 2017-05-02 08:20

The colour splitting/matching is a great concept, I could see it working really well in platformed puzzle sections. In this implementation, I got lost pretty quickly. I reached level 9 but couldn't figure it out. I'm not really sure what I actually did to get past level 8 to be honest. Maybe too many colours and mechanics introduced too quickly. On level 9 I couldn't get the bottom white circle to move or have any effect on my character. What am I supposed to do there?

I'm glad you put buttons for quickly getting back to the Home screen and for restarting the puzzle, being able to quickly retry is always a useful feature in puzzle games like this.

drtizzle 2017-05-02 09:47

I completely agree with @kodiqi. Great concept, with a lot of possibilities for puzzles, but I got lost very fast. The difficulty curve could have been a little less steep. Props for the responsive controls and the restart button. Also, the art style is very appealing, I like that kind of stuff :)

Well done!

this-gooch 2017-05-02 19:12

Great game! Got pretty addicted till I got stuck on one level. The different mechanics were introduced pretty quickly, which was a lot to take in. It would also be nice to have a menu to reference the different combinations.

madmaw 2017-05-02 23:12

@kodiqi try LDRURDDURDLDLRDDLLUUDDD (I hope I got that right) on level 9. There are hints at the start of most stages (including that one). The hint for that stages is

"Flickering objects (like you) can split, solid objects cannot"

It's probably not obvious, but the intention of that level was to highlight the differences in behavior between a solid boulder and a flickering boulder. The solid boulder can't be moved and prevents you from entering that tile, while the flickering one can be split and pushed around.

You're absolutely right though, it's very advanced and the mechanics are introduced back-to-back rather than letting you learn each one before moving on, which wasn't my intention, I was just too sleep deprived to have empathy by the time I did the levels. If you can get past that one, it actually gets easier again!

brandon-diaz 2017-05-04 03:29

Really interesting mechanics, I enjoyed it a lot. I think the pace was a bit fast, but it was very enjoyable.

generictoast 2017-05-04 05:15

Really interesting and fun game mechanics. Whats even more impressive is the amount of levels you managed to make as levels for puzzle games like these usually take a long time to make and balance properly. I just wished the colour chart could be displayed while playing a level. A really fun and challenging game!

kalabasa 2017-05-04 16:58

Great concept! This is a good tricky puzzle game.

It was hard to get at first though, so *more basic* "tutorial" levels would be nice. Maybe play with only two colors at first. Adding and subtracting RGB/CMY in my head was already too hard. You could then probably introduce more splitting possibilities. Then boulders. Then collision rules with boulders (which color pushes which color), etc. The level designs were actually okay in that aspect. I can see the design behind those. It's just that they went too fast.

Other than that, it is a good puzzle mechanic, and you already have enough puzzle elements to play around. I would like to play a full-fledged version of this on mobile (?) some day! (please?)

Also, my progress was saved even after closing the tab! Nice.

weaverdeveloper 2017-05-04 17:11

Very interesting concept, but the level in the picture on this page had me beat. Feels like it could become a great mobile puzzle game if you made more, gradually more difficult puzzles. Great job!

doomshmuck 2017-05-05 03:54

I enjoyed this a lot. I also got stuck on the flicker stage, that one was a brain twister for sure. Felt like kind of a big difficulty spike from the others though. The introduction of the new mechanics was well done, although I think introducing the rock color change stuff on a simpler level would have been good. The sound effects got a little annoying towards the end, and having a background beat may have added to the atmosphere. But really well done!

fueelin 2017-05-05 04:43

Nice one, but got stuck eventually. Good job!

kataware 2017-05-05 06:08

Very interesting puzzle game, quite a perplexer. It caught me interest for some time, and I could see gameplay was focused over most categories.

candlesan 2017-05-05 06:54

That's a pretty original concept! I like the execution it clearly illustrates what you were going for. the character is cute. I liked being able to split and re-combine. I think having you control multiple characters as you move around was also an interesting twist that conceptually made me feel like all the iamges were me I was just split into component color parts.

lucas-ferrantelli 2017-05-05 08:34

Your game proved that you don't need good graphics to do an awesome game ! Very interesting puzzle game, I loved it.

bunnery 2017-05-05 11:49

Interested to see another colour-based puzzle game - very different to ours! Such a good idea - but as others have said - it got quite hard quickly! I guess you wanted to showcase all the levels in the short time allowed. Would make a fab full-sized puzzle game. Nice work :-)

dark-power 2017-05-05 13:55

Wooo! Trippy

zener 2017-05-05 16:49

Great concept! Vert well designed, I like how you are adding new elements every level. Congrats!

cheesymoo 2017-05-05 17:01

This is an excellent game. Awesome concept, learn as you go and build up the puzzle complexity from there.

Just glad I'm not color blind!

adroitconceptions 2017-05-06 00:01

Interesting game.. somewhat challenging when colorblind given that the main mechanic is related to colors. would help if the colors were stronger/more pure.

aerohandketian 2017-05-06 00:07

love the idea! the learning curve is pretty good too. i was thinking about color blend thingy during the compo, it really fits one room theme well!

reactor-scram 2017-05-06 00:18

This is super-cool. There's an easy tutorial (which most entries lack), and the concept is consistent with instant feedback on whether you're right or wrong. When it added the secondary effects like flickering objects and boulders pushing other boulders it made me think of Braid. I love it.

The only thing that's a bit rough is that it's hard to memorize all the color combos. Maybe you can change the art so each channel also has a particular pattern, and when they fit together the white is solid? idk.

One other thing I would say is, there's no prompt to continue when I beat a level, and the animations are a bit slow to play so it feels like the input is lagging. It looks like you are probably just playing a tween so maybe a tween function that kicks in faster is all you need.

bobsleigh 2017-05-06 16:38

Very interresting concept. Quite a challenging game. Something felt weird in the first level with the boulder:when pushing it from the left, the character doubled itself, as if passing through a wall.

Still, great puzzle game! Never saw something like that before.

conrad123 2017-05-06 16:58

Nice idea for a game. I might have glitched one of the levels though. :P

dagothig 2017-05-06 17:47

Holy hell! This is just so cool! Loved it despite sucking greatly at it!

markus 2017-05-06 18:40

Awesome game mechanics - the game is really addictive and i would heva loved to play even more levels! The graphics and sounds can still be improved and you didn't exactly nail the theme... but apart from this I really like this game! Nice entry :)

philstrahl 2017-05-06 18:58

Very original mechanics. I thought I knew my way around RGB channels fairly well, but your game got quite intense rather quickly and I didn't manage to get past level 9, "flicker". But the concept is great and it feels like with some wok, RGB can become the next "Steven's Sausage Roll". Well done!

nekoballs 2017-05-06 19:17

Great mechanics, some levels were a bit hard though and a bit confusing at first. But overall, a great little puzzle game!

mrgussio 2017-05-06 20:19

Fun game to play! I got stuck after the monsters were added, didn't know how to end the level. But you've done a great job, man

wobbleboxx 2017-05-06 20:28

Nice puzzle game. I'm spoiled by all the app store games that explain every little mechanic in detail. That's what I was missing a bit at first, but then it waked my explorer instinct :)

nbilyk 2017-05-06 21:45

I've been hoping I'd find a good innovative puzzle game for LD38, thanks! This is my favorite game so far in this jam. A lot of puzzle games have a problem where they are either too easy or hand-holding, and some (even The Witness) you get stuck on a puzzle and groan when you find the hidden piece (as opposed to figuring anything out). RGB has been nothing but "Aha" moments, which is great!

Only suggestion I'd add -- Make some sort of final victory screen. It's a puzzle game, I need my reward!

nbilyk 2017-05-06 21:46

Ahhh, I tabbed to write the review and the game crashed when I tabbed back :*(

zchen 2017-05-07 06:01

Interesting take on using color as mechanics. The "one control moves all" mechanic and the color mechanics seem to be quite disjointed and don't build on top of each other very well. The game may have benefit more if there was a focus on one or the other. Good job on the level design though, I can see the thought put into the level layouts and what you wanted to teach the player.

frankzhao 2017-05-07 07:23

Interesting and challenging, and the sound of move is fascinating!

bestnickname 2017-05-07 08:05

This is an excellent idea for building a puzzle game around. I would have liked for the mechanics to be introduced a bit slower, so that there is more time to use the already introduced mechanics to solve more elaborate puzzles, but overall I had quite a bit of fun with this, great job :)

stevenjmiller 2017-05-07 08:23

Wonderful puzzle game! The mechanics were super clever, and the puzzles were well designed. I played through all of the levels, and my personal favorite was Cascade.

cogcomp 2017-05-07 08:33

Clever puzzle game. I really liked it. A bit of polish and I genuinely think this would be a hit game!

valiap 2017-05-07 09:28

Great game! Finally managed to break all the level. Puzzles were simple and clever. Especially level 9, i spent a lot of time on pushing the white rock. I think with more polished graphic it might be a hit game on mobile platform.

非常好玩!终于通关了,谜题简洁有趣,尤其是第九关,我费了好大劲想怎么推那个白石头。如果再打磨一下,感觉可能可以在移动平台上火一把。

fingerpass 2017-05-07 11:01

It takes me almost an hour to pass all the levels. Pretty great level design.

Simple mechanisms and simple rules lead to a impressive puzzle-solve game.

Though, it is hard to make me associate this game and the theme of LD.

philstrahl 2017-05-08 02:28

fyi, "RGB" is one of my favorite games I've played and rated so far :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQSb3D6GyCw

neontropics 2017-05-15 11:37

Hah, very clever little puzzle game. Some of the mechanics I don't think I quite grasped and just solved by trial and error, like when a monster could hurt you and not.
