I love this idea and take on the theme! It's quite hilarious! It wasn't 100% obvious to me what to do though.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → Goblin Philosopher

This is the game I've rated the highest yet, you've done an amazing job on it! There's the unique implementation of the theme, the innovative gameplay (basically a memory game with a sims-like feel to it? excellent!) and the sound and graphics are great too, this is impeccable for 48 hours!!
I'm not sure if this is done purposely, but alot of the dialogue boxes turned up empty, I'm guessing this is a bug, because after that when I had to pick a topic, icons that I didn't see in the conversation appeared and I had to basically guess
I would also love if when I place my goblin too close to the other, he would automatically walk a set distance away from him so that the player will always see the dialogue boxes clearly, even if he places the goblins badly!
@chironyx I'm really glad you enjoyed it :) and thanks for the feedback.
The empty bubbles was intentional, because you only get 3 choices you end up guessing a bit anyway. I found full bubbles all the time gave you all the "answers" quite quickly if you were attentive, but then you'd be presented with what you knew were only bad choices, which felt super frustrating. With more time I would re-work it so you always have a positive choice and there were no empty bubbles tho.
Having goblins move is something I really wanted but the animation was a bit too far for me in 48 hours. Tried to solve it by letting the player re-position goblins slightly without breaking a conversation, but doing it your way would certainly be the better fix.
Hilarious game, with amazing art to go with it. I found myself chuckling over and over, and was impressed with the quality.
You get one of my highest ratings so far, I really liked your take on the theme. While the game is very simple you have absolutely polished the aspects that you have included and worked to a good scope. Really great job.
This was nice, initially I found it a bit hard to tell apart my goblins from unconverted goblins, the sound was good.
Would have been nice if there was a bit more of a goal though.
This is my favorite interpretation of the theme so far! The "deep" goblin philosophical conversations while moving deeper into the caves works on multiple... levels!!! (Like levels in a cave, get it?) The visuals are fantastic, stylized, polished, and very funny; I LOVED picking up the tiny goblins and moving them around. I do wish gameplay was a little faster in the beginning; early on I found I was mostly watching a loading bar and clicking every so often, and I wasn't totally sure how to progress. Otherwise, though, really fantastic.
Very nice take on the theme. It's quite hard to watch all the conversations though, so I mostly clicked a random topic.
A sweet and very well made compo game. Well done.
This is one of the most unique and clever ideas I've seen so far. I Wasn't entirely sure what to do but I figured out the basic idea pretty quickly. Publishing more detailed instructions might help? Overall, great work! Also, loved the goblins' talky sounds!
kinda reminded me of the sims and trying to figure out what theyre talking about. This is definitely the most unique idea i've come across in LD48 so far. Well done
@crocodiletuesday Thanks for the feedback, lacking an actual goal for the game overall left me floundering a bit to write instructions but glad it can be worked out from context. Also adding the goblin libraries quite late on the last day I think means it's quite unclear how they work and that you can use them to speed up the discussions.
Love the "Deep" sound when you grap them ;-)
Nice, very humorous approach to the theme.
The base maechanics are innovative and very good implemented, although due to the gameplay under their potential.
Graphics (pretty good animations!) and sounds are very good.
Funny take on the jam theme
This is awesome, especially for a compo entry! Wonderful take on the theme, and you've put things together in a package really well!
A couple of things that stood out to me: 1) I felt like the dialogue time was very slow - I enjoyed watching them talk, but I couldn't finish your game when I saw how many goblins + how long each goblin took haha. 2) This is small, but in the tutorial, it wasn't obvious I could drag goblins through walls - maybe some sort of different tile for "hard wall" vs. a backwall might help with that distinction?
Overall though this is a seriously fantastic entry, with a great take on the theme, wonderful graphics, and just an overall excellent, cohesive package. Well done, and congrats on submitting!
I liked it a lot! The sound and art are very charming, and it's a novel idea/theme interpretation. It did feel like progress was slow, and I also got intimidated when I saw how many friends there were to talk to. I stopped playing at that point, but I still really liked the experience and the game. Good work!
I like the pixel style of the game design very much, the style of the goblin is particularly interesting, I feel very good after trying, the animation is very smooth
I found a bug where I got locked out of any input, which happened after I moved one of my goblins right before getting converted by the cultist thing and as he was about to come to a breaking point in a conversation, right in the middle of a gigantic gobfest. I couldn't grab or click on any button but I could scroll around.
Really original entry and gets pretty funny when you move every one of your converted gobbos in the same room into a huge cluster of green chaos. I found out that was the quickest way to get things done even if you get some breakpoints wrong.
Congrats!
