Hi there, congratulations as well! It's a neat concept, besides being turn based, you have to think on your feet as you go. Unfortunately I lost because I reached a dead end and not because of a mistake, oh well. I think the game would be better if it got more challenging earlier, it feels like it takes too long to get out of the "easy phase". Cheers, have a good day!

This was pretty fun! I agree with @xmatos in that I very much enjoyed how I had to think on my feet (the moving sharks contribute a lot to this), but I also died from reaching a dead end. I also feel it started off quite slow and took some time before it got interesting.

I suppose there isn't that much gameplay right now to comment on, but even the idea of a grid-based side-scroller where you move one space every so often has the potential for some really fun and innovative gameplay. I'd be really interested in seeing where you take this: in particular, the simultaneous strategy game on the turtle's back seems like a brilliant idea and would have fit the theme perfectly.

I completely agree that this game is better than pretty much all of Action 52, except for Cheetahmen, maybe ;) I also love the title. Nice work, and congrats on finishing!

I think this game really could have used a retry button... refreshing the page was a decent work-around for that, but that would be a good touch. The game itself was a lot of fun. I didn't know right away which things I could collect (I avoided the first squid because I thought it was an enemy), so it would have helped to have an indicator of that. You had quite a bit of whitespace on the screen, so maybe could have put a key in there to help? Otherwise, very well done!

Hello! I wonder why so few people played your game, it runs fine in a browser. For an unpolished game it's VERY playable, controls were right, I like that I could go back. I think you did accomplish something by putting this together! "YOU DEAD :("

cabbagecrow 2017-05-19 13:57

It's a nice small game. Of course it can use more polish, but you did achieve the most important thing - you finished a playable version. Congrats for that. :-)

From here on you can improve it or just take your lessons learned to the next project.

Thank you all for the feedback, it helps a lot! I do hope to come back to this game at some point and develop it further into what I'd originally had planned for it - it's so hard to make time though! Aah!~

I think you've got the start of a nifty game. Don't worry so much about completing less than you wanted! The game was totally playable and understandable without instruction, which is a feat in itself. Turtles eat squid, so it's good. Sharks eat turtles, so it's bad. True the game is just a little bare at this point, and movement could be smoother (visually) and a few other things, but I think it's a good shot.

Nice simple concept, although it was hard to tell at times which other things were hazards and which were power-ups.

sachos345 2017-05-20 01:07

Fck Me Dead! Well its really simple and the presentation is not that good =S As other said a retry button would have been nice. And some sound too! Art was charming though.

It's a simple and straightforward game; and there's nothing bad about this! I could easily imagine this game played on mobile devices with some polish. It's a really good entry, great job =]

Hey! Hopefully my rating gets in in time.

This game is a lot of fun! I very much like the control scheme, and the way that the autoscroll and the controls intersect.

- Obviously, it lacks a bit of polish; - The difficulty seems to curve quite well! - I would suggest showing me SOONER how to get points, either in an instruction, or by having a prey animal spawn early on.

Good job! :D

pretty cool i'm guessing you wrote this from scratch. If so that's pretty good. tho i felt it was lacking in content and could have been polished more. but if you had to ask me, i'd say to learn to code in an engine (such as unity or unreal) or to make your own a couple months before ludum dare so you can create content faster. also the game would have looked so much better if you rendered the sprites to a point. well that's about all i have to say good job and i look forward to seeing you in future ludum dare competitions. also if you want to try my game here it is

I enjoyed it! I really appreciate that it was easy to pick-up-and-play. It was quick enough that I wanted to beat my previous score each time and had that "just one more time" feel to it. Your plans sound really interesting and ambitious!

I could even see just a more polished version of this game optimized for phones (with touch screen controls) because of the bite-sized nature of the gameplay.

Good luck with wherever you take it and congrats on completing Ludum Dare!!

ectucker1 2017-05-20 01:25

The concept is cool. The major issue, for me anyway, is the blurriness. Browser graphics are hard! It would also have been good if it was more clear what was food and what was an enemy. Still, good job!

jeremy-ryan 2017-05-20 01:26

Very different from most entries, but I think it's pretty neat! It's simple, but gets the idea across.

The sprites of the sharks were well done, very easy to tell which direction they are about to go.

My only problem with it is that while it's turn based, collisions seem to happen somewhere in the middle of each frame? If an enemy is moving to the square you are occupying as you are moving away, you still die. It would be nice if you could avoid losing in these situations (i.e. the "turtle moving" takes place before the "enemy moving" in the game logic) to encourage riskier plays :)

Well done!

It's a neat concept, I'd love to see where it would go if you expanded on it. Of course, as it stands it's incomplete and so not a lot happens, but that's life in game jams sometimes.

Also, I laughed at "You dead".

gemcc 2017-05-20 06:19

Nice little game! Sad now the turtle is dead :(
