You should release a mac version :/

tri11paragon 2020-04-21 01:49

Linux version please!

zezel 2020-04-21 01:54

Very cool, I loove the way the campfire looks  !

nanoarch 2020-04-21 02:02

Very cool and simple game, had me on edge a couple of times hoping to find more items, the art is very nice to look at, I would recommend having more than one fire spawning over time, to keep the difficulty up.

curtamyth 2020-04-21 02:06

Neat little survival game, looks very nice!

danthegreat 2020-04-21 18:07

@tri11paragon Glad to hear from a fellow Linux enthusiast! The link to the Linux version is now available. Please let me know if you have any issues. (x86-64, tested on Ubuntu 18.04)

danthegreat 2020-04-21 18:10

@dranrebdev Sorry, we'd love to publish a Mac version but we don't have hardware for testing. However, we hope to publish an HTML5 / web browser version soon.

mharring 2020-04-22 20:03

@dranrebdev We've pushed a Mac version, although as @danthegreat mentioned we don't have hardware to test. Let us know if it works :)

god-colo 2020-04-24 06:53

My fire went out in the last ten seconds ! Okay so, first of all, the pixel art is just super!! :open_mouth: Second of all, you've made good use of the Godot Engine! The fire particles were awesome! It seemed to me that the items appeared randomly on the map? Or is it just me? Third of all, the sound effects were well chosen! Especially the duck! Greato Jobu!

lootgrounds 2020-04-24 06:53

Nice look at the theme and beautiful pixel art. Good job!

nivamdjo 2020-04-24 06:54

I love the sound of duck :3

enya454 2020-04-24 06:55

Really fun game. The stress building was perfectly balanced. And yes, the Mac version does work

alexey-kuzovkov 2020-04-24 07:02

The idea is similar to my game :smile_cat: Your game looks very nice! I like it!

celvin 2020-04-24 08:22

I like the pixel art work, the animations and control. Gameplay is a little bit simple. Anyway, good job!

danthegreat 2020-04-24 10:28

@enya454 Many thanks for testing the Mac version!

mharring 2020-04-25 17:27

@god-colo thanks! The items were manually placed. We thought about adding randomization but it proved difficult to balance.

savvu 2020-04-25 18:32

Such a great idea with a lot of promising features! As a pixel art fan by myself this one is ver nice and well polished! Congratulations and I wish you good luck!

madbarron 2020-04-25 18:53

Great job! Fun to see a different implementation of a very similar idea to my game :)

I played through twice and survived up until 16 seconds left. Is it better to save fuel for later?

I like the lantern, throwing, and body heat mechanics and I think they add a lot to the experience.

isiah-brighton 2020-04-25 18:53

This did a really good job of balancing the feeling of being lost in the darkness and still having a generally good idea of where I am/need to go to return to the feeling of safety. I almost feel like, given the way you use the closest items near you and have to go farther and farther out every time (plus accidentally throwing in the lantern, RIP), making it colder that final time isn't necessary to make it harder (at least for me).

I lost with about 30 seconds left because I underestimated how quickly the fire would go out while I was away (I was juggling about 5 objects).

smirnov48 2020-04-25 18:59

Awesome game! ^) I played until I survived!

nobongo 2020-04-25 19:27

Simple little game with lively graphics. I enjoyed playing it although I died in a really unexpected way. I thought my fire was big enough to venture out a little but apparently not and it seems to give me a game over when it was only about half way depleted. This didn't really ruin the experience but it was a tad misleading. Good job!

inflamedgums 2020-04-27 14:24

Pretty fun game, reminded me a bit of don't starve, maybe because I'm equally bad at surviving the night at both games ^^ I think the lighting looks really nice and does a great job at setting the mood! 5/5, would accidentally throw my lantern into the fire again ^^

prodigalson 2020-05-02 22:35

Very solid entry. The controls are responsive, the goal is simple, and the mood feels right with this sense of "I better go out for more fuel but what may be out there that could harm me. It's okay, I have my trusty lantern which guides me in this thick dark forest....and it just went into the fire...well, just kill me know I say" lol

duke 2020-05-03 10:44

Not too shabby! I had to check twice to see, if I hadn't played this already :D There were a couple of other entries I played already, that had the exact same premise and/or game play mechanics. The pixel art looks very coherent and polished. The player animations as well, good job on that! The sound effects you used are also very well mixed and sound great. The core game play mechanics explain themselves rather intuitively, which is always a good sign. The collecting and throwing was kinda satisfying, so that's also a job well done :) loved the sound effects different items made when thrown in the fire. Also, I find it rather dangerous to throw plastic, rubber and even used batteries into an open flame :D

I thought I had it all figured out and then the game over screen suddenly appeared around the 1 minute mark. The fire was going fine and I went out to collect more stuff and then, bam: game over (the fire went out). No idea how I was supposed to prevent that from happening. If the fire dying rate increases to that extent in the last quarter of the game, it seems kinda rushed and unfair to the player.

Sill, nice entry. I enjoyed it while it lasted :)

mharring 2020-05-03 20:41

Thanks @duke for the feedback! We definitely would have liked more time for balancing. The thought was to encourage the player to stockpile early and just feed the fire as the night got colder, but it wasn't necessarily obvious to do that. We also wanted to add an indicator of the fire's strength in the HUD so you would know when to return to the fire, but we ran out of time.

danthegreat 2020-05-04 04:47

Also, we were hoping to add a cool rain effect in order to explain why the fire burns out more quickly as time goes on, but we ran out of time for that too. ;-)

laaph 2020-05-04 22:35

Very nicely done! I loved the extra sound effects (like when you put the duck on the fire). The animations, sounds, and art all work well together!

It gets quite hard at the end! The one time I thought I was going to make it, the character threw the things on the ground instead of in to the fire!

evan-minto 2020-05-06 03:51

I had a similar idea during my early brainstorming! This is very well executed and fun. I enjoyed experimenting with each item and venturing out to explore the nearby area, with the risk of getting too cold pulling me back. I did immediately wish I could light a branch on fire and use it as a torch, like a smaller, shorter-lived version of the fire. That might make for even more interesting strategy.

The rate at which it got colder at the end felt a bit unfair, but if the rate was progressively speeding up over time I would have been more able to prepare for it.

divadyugi 2020-05-06 18:49

Cool game. I had a similar theme for my game, but your execution is way better, and the mechanics are very polished for your game. I really like the throwing mechanic, it feels a lot more fun than just simply putting it in the fire, and the fact that you have to experiment with items to find out how much they increase the fire is also very good in my opinion

ovid 2020-05-06 18:54

Hey there. I just want to say that the graphics look cool and the idea is very creative! There are some suggestions that I'd like to tell you about. The first thing is adding more scary features can add to the game's mood (for example when you lose the player will scream). I forgot the other one :) but I think that will help your game.

Very cool game!

xmatos 2020-05-07 14:02

Great job! Looks amazing, sounds good too. I just thought the game itself was too simple, needed something more. Have a good day!

artix312 2020-05-11 16:14

I love all sound effects in your game! Good job!

2020-08-18 20:28

Awesome job! sounds are so well made, the idea is so good and by the way this was the first game i played in Ludum Dare and it was amazing!
