Hi there, I played your game for a while, here's my thoughts: Let's start with the good stuff, the driving feels nice, the camera zooming out while the faster you go is a nice touch, technically the seemed to work well, it's impressive amount of stuff you've done in such a short time period. And now the not so good, the game isn't exciting, having to keep track of my 4 different meters feels like a chore, and I felt no urgency in completing the fares and when I did them I felt no accomplishment. Without a mini map there is no way to plan my driving, there is no reason to pick a fare between 3. Having an arrow pointing to the destination the way isn't always an accurate indication of the way since I don't know if there are walls in the way. The symbols are sort of a mini map, but there is no indication of which is nearer and which is farther away, so when I'm looking for a restaurant I just gotta hope the one I pick is near me. I hope you don't take my criticisms too hard, this was still a great amount of work in such a short time frame, and I can see it being a great game with more work putting into it. And now, I shamelesly ask you to play my game, I'd love some feedback(don't hold back). https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/$19963

@xmatos Thanks for the comment. Theres actually a time limit that we implemented into the missions, but we didnt have enough time to fully play test and define proper timers for each of the missions. As a result, all missions were just set to no limit so that people would have something to do. A valid crit for sure. DLing your game now and Ill be sure to leave a comment :)

I loved playing the old GTA games back in the day. There is definitely something here.. but it needs something to make it more fun. Presentation is generally nice although a bit cluttered. When I first started I was honestly overwhelmed by all the icons and meters although I did get the hang of it quicker than I thought. There is some humor and personality with the customers but I never felt like I could stop and take it in since there were so many timers to keep track of. I'd personally scrap them in favor of customer tied timers instead. Maybe some customers could prefer speed, maybe others prefer safety. You could go further with the customers too if you decide to keep working on this. The thought of picking up Jason Voorhees and then watching him go on a teenage murder spree once you drop him off seems funny to me :D.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing another old school GTA-style game and I think you have a great base here.

Nice, I enjoyed just driving around it felt good! The game crashed when picking up people sometimes.

Super pretty game! The sound effects were a little uncomfortable, especially the bathroom one, but it seems like that was intended. Not a whole lot gameplay wise, but I enjoyed finding fast paths to picking up and dropping off people while consistently going through food gas and bathrooms. I could imagine a storyline implemented and it being less survival arcadey post-mortem being really dope! Unfortunately the game crashed when I was at like $550 when I picked someone up so that's when I chose to stop.

Omg, LIBGDX! It is so hard to make a game in LibGDX, the hype! Your team used Tiled, right? Have you ever tried Overlap2D?

Well, back to the game. I like it, really fun. The core game design is good (maybe that is why it was successful, haha) and the mechanics are good, although **I** suck at controlling this kind of car. I think it is the game from this jam I've played the most (aside from mine due to bug testing, haha, which doesn't count). Your game really got me distracted.

Some problems you may want to fix: + Fuel tank GUI not updated + Mission pointing arrow is not clear enough (it is an equilateral triangle) + Some times the clients won't board the taxi + Map is weird at some spots (unexpected dead ends without signal make you hit a wall suddenly)

OH, AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE REFERENCES:

+ Batman + Castle Crashers + Fez + Others

nandemoguy 2017-05-03 03:23

@meronsoda Much thanks man. Yep our recipe for this game was LibGDX, Tiled, and Box2d. We will have to check out Overlap2d for future jams. Thanks for the heads up on some of the things to fix. There have been a few bugs that we woudl have love to have done away with before the deadline, but such are the ways of the jam. I was the artist for the game and was getting my laughs from putting the various references in, so Im glad that you had time to notice and appreciate them too :)

nandemoguy 2017-05-03 03:26

@croze Thanks man, yeah the sounds are half of the fun haha. Unfortunately the music isnt working in the build for some reason but I cant get the guys to fix it up for a 1.1 fix yet :-/ The crashing when you hit people thing is really really weird. Maybe we can put some time in and put in some of the fixes and features we didnt get in before the deadline if the interest is high enough.

Hahaha! This was a genuinely fun game! When I ran over the outhouse and was still able to take a dump, I knew I was in for a treat. There are a few bugs: when I "died" in a restaurant action area it kept buying food over and over and I couldn't buy food with my current car. Also my gas gauge stopped working after a bit. There seemed to be some tile-edge glitches as well, the way GPUs scale tiles sometimes requires you to pad the edges of the tile art a few pixels to avoid "cracking" (no idea if this was the culprit, just a guess). None of those are huge deals, and I was having a grand time running over trash cans and just being stupid. Great work!

**Edit:** Looks like some other people already pointed you in the right direction for some of the graphical stuff. Sorry for repeating it!

nandemoguy 2017-05-12 19:48

@wheffle Thanks for the play. Yeah youre exactly right about the padding on the tiles. Weve had to do this before on previous jams but it always ends up an afterthought. Just didnt have the time to go through all tiles and adjust before deadline. Interesting glitches with the food issue and gas gauge, those are new ones. Much appreciated.

Fine premise, but the game kept crashing on me so i couldn't get much out of it...

Nice game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVqPS9hBhlk

I like how you have a nice logging system going there, always good practice (which I never end up doing...) :P Really would have liked some background music or noise. The SFX felt really out of place without them. Car controls were great but I wasn't really feeling the food / toilet thing as a gameplay mechanic. It was pretty hilarious though xD Graphics were nice as well. Overall really impressive stuff.
