Now that I have had a chance to play, i've changed my rating! Really nice job creating the horror ambiance. The memes clash with it really well, which is good for the theme. I like the use of 3d audio, that is a nice touch and really brings yu into the game. I also love the style! it's almost tim-burton esque which gets me right in the nostalgia.
// The in-browser resolution was only showing about half the screen, left the game unplayable. @aditya-shukia
@Dekobii Thanks for the feedback. I'll fix it out.
@Dekobii Thanks the issue has now been fixed!

Visual remind me heavily of Don't Starve. Shame they are not used more as the game is mostly black. Player going around with some light source like candle, torch or lantern would be better. The light could get dimmer the closer you get to a Meme? I don't know, just throwing ideas.
Ambient lightning sound volume could be toned down. It kind of masks other important sounds and listening to these are the main game play mechanic.
Music is creepy and fitting to the Don't Starvish visuals.
I'm not much of a Meme person myself so I don't get so much out of this game probably. Just saying, that the Memes can limit the scope of target audience.
@Dekobii Thanks a lot Sir. Your feedback was really valuable for us noobs!! And thankyou so much for the rating!
@Keppu Thankyou for your feedback and ratings! I'll keep on improving the game based on your feedback. Actually the inspiration for the game was taken from "Goosebumps!". It's an android game, do try it someday!

I watched some game play of the Goosebumps. I feel the same criticism stands for it also. They have that lovely aesthetics that you see just flash every now and then. Jump scares don't require complete darkness imho.
Feel free to expand from the original inspiration and include different ideas to your game. You don't have to make exact copy of another game. :)

i think i beat the game, i got to the part where it said some stuff about a dream and gave me a click and go option. the one thing i didnt like about this was that the girl was facing once direction even though i was going in another direction. the listening thing for the sound was a good mechanic and used very well here.

This was really fun! I didn't use headphones, but I was still able to distinguish the sounds with stereo speakers. As a meme addict, I really love the idea, haha. This game is a blast! :)
@Keppu Yeah you are right! We have just started making games and are still in the learning process. This Jam was an excuse for us to learn new things. You can consider us the 'noobs' in GameDev community. But really your feedback is very motivating and we'll try our best to do better next time as well as to keep on expanding the game. Thankyou so much.
@JCMonkey Yeah, you actually beat the game ๐. Congratulations! We'll thought it was least important so we decided to do it at the end. We'll keep updating the game. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers!
@Iluvatar Hahaha! As a fellow meme addict I know how to feels! Lol! Thanks for the feedback and Rating. Much appreciated!

Interesting concept, and very scary, would love to see a char animated. Didn't like much the ooorly edited memes on the screen, it stands out in the wrong way.
It was nice to play, tbh. I got a little confused by the music sound + memes sounds sounding all together. The concept was cool and I wanted to finish the game overall to see what was going on. Good job.

Nice game. Fun hat you combine memes that are funny with horror :D

I was intrigued, but not disappointed! It has been said before but it would be make a huge difference with a sprite for each direction!
Funny interpretation of the theme IMO ! I enjoyed the listening mechanics, even if it was quite confusing for me at first. You did a really good job with your entry :) Congrats !
@Vrarr thankyou so much for your feedback. You are right! Will fix it for sure. Thanks
@Desdemone Thankyou so much. Much Appreciated.
@lausemand Thanks Lausemand we appreciate your feedback.
I played only for a few minutes and then had to quit because I feel really bad playing tense/horror games, sorry ><
The ambience is pretty good! You managed to do a good darkness effect, and accompanied with 3D sound makes the experience very inmersive!
Congrats!
Well I pooped! Very well done. really enjoyed it. :) thanks for the game
Thankyou so much for playing the game and rating it, @mattpattie2 and @elHombreBanana
i wouldn't say this is on theme.. as memes aren't really a type of game. great sound though, felt as though i could navigate through without being detected.... i assume that was the point? to not get caught buy the memes? it was ok, but if there was an end goal i couldn't find it. i kinda feel like the graphics wer'nt really worth adding in, you could probably have saved some time and just left the screen blank the whole time lol.
Really funny concept, that's a great project for someone who insists on being a "noob", so don't sell yourself short. I laughed a lot. Hope to see more from you in future jams. Also check my game out if you like!
Was trying to win the game but can't :)) don't really know the clue. Other than that, I enjoyed it!
@Brendan Toy The theme here is Comedy and Horror, and memes are the latest and most viral source of comedy right now, so that is what we were thinking while making the game. Btw thankyou so much for the feedback!
@GastricSparrow Your words are really motivating. I assure you that you'll see a better game next time from us, that's for sure! Thankyou so much!

You should give credits to the dead silence theme, it seems like you just looped a part of it. The mood and sounds are good, the character looks great and the idea with the memes fits nicely...good job!
nice concept i like it keep it up ;D if you want to play my game go and rate https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/minibattle
@aemiliu5 You are right! Just now edited the description section and added the credits! Thanks for the suggestion! And thankyou for playing! Btw I loved your turn based battle royale :v:
@bhavesh_tiwari Arrre thanks bhai! :D Sure let me try!
hahahahahah really??? nice idea mixing up memes and horror. i enjoyed your game.

Good mood, but it's not very clear what you're supposed to do in the game.

>The problem is so bad that the memes now haunt her all the time ##### me irl
Pretty funny! I always like when jam entries do something different with audio, or heck, even DO something with audio! Many seem to regard soundscapes something that you do if you have spare time at the end. I appreciate that you took the audio experience as front and center of you game.
Played the android version, analog stick analogue was somewhat inconvenient on my device at least. Bit too cramped in the corner, going southwest was awkwardish.
@kyyninen Thankyou sooo much! Really your comment is one of the best and it really motivates to do better :") Thanks man!
Okay i'll look at the android build! Thanks!

Almost pooped my pants lol. Donโt really like horror games but decided to give this one a go.
What I loved * The memes lol * Funny interpretation of the theme * The overall feel, ambience & vibe
What could be improved * The controls felt a little inconvenient * Some directional movement was weird * Not very clear what youโre supposed to do in the game
Thanks for sharing. Iโd love for you to try out my game as well!

Omg I simply LOVE it. I was waiting for something horrifying at the end and... I have to say that it really scared me, hahaha. Great job!
@lacre thanks a lot. We appreciate your feedback.
There were a number of memes in there I didn't recognize, which I am pretty happy with... for my own soul, that is. ๐
The primary mechanic of staying at distance from the meme audio is pretty clever and well executed, though I wasn't sure if there was also a direction to go *to*. I did finish the game when I went closer to the background music at one point, but I had tried that before with no result, so I am not sure if that was a coincidence or not.
The art is decent, but there's not a lot of it. Which makes sense given the concept, but that also makes me feel like some more time could have been spent on what is there. The Play/Next button that's used, for instance, looks hastily circled but not nicely designed, if you catch my meaning. I did notice one odd thing where moving diagonally left my footprints at different distances, one small step and one big step.
The music, rain and thunder are very atmospheric, and I very much appreciate the use of different surface sounds for the footsteps. Nice touch.
All in all an entertaining and clever concept, and a good first submission!

haha this game is really unique I think. Love your work! :D

Slightly humorous and ridiculous at the same time. The 3d audio design works out nicely. The sound for the scares gets a little ear-grindy though.
@croewens Thankyou so much for playing and giving such a nice review to the game. We really really appreciate it. Yeah there are many bugs in the game right now. We'll keep on fixing them. But as it was our 2nd jam ever, it was more of an opportunity to learn. And reviews like yours really motivate us to do better next time. Again, thankyou so much.
@Flaterectomy Thankyou so much for such a great review. Yes we agree there is a lot of work that is needed to be done on the game. We'll keep on improving it. Also I would thank you for such a review as review like these really motivates us to do better next time. We'll keep in mind everything you said and will do better in the next game jam. Thanks.

Hahaha! It's a fun game and the sound atmosphere is very well done. The game is simple but you did a great job on sound management. And the little touches of humor are nice ;-) Nice job guys!

It is interesting to go and follow some meme sounds to finally reveal the meme itself :) The meme sound was maybe a bit strong, I didn't expect it to be so loud, but it is kind of cool to search for the "scare".
@Raoul and @Corbak Thankyou so much guys! :D
Very interesting take on the theme, and great use of music and 3d sound. The art style remembered me, in some way, the game Don't Starve. I really had fun playing this, good job!
I also made a horror game, please, take a look: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional
@Rodrigo Denรบbila thanks for playing the game and rating it. We would definitely take a look at your game too.
Hey Aditya and Chetan! I found the focus on audio very original since that's something I tend to tackle last in my games ;) Personally, I am not too familiar (or fond of) memes, so I didn't recognize anything in particular and overall the gameplay was rather simple; a bit like playing Pacman with only my ears. Nevertheless a good concept, maybe just a little rough around the edges.
@PhilStrahl Thankyou soo much for playing and rating this game! We have just started our game dev journey so we promise you there is more to come in the future. A great fan of your motivational videos on your yotube channel. Keep motivating us like always. Thanks!!!!
@aditya-shukla You're welcome! If you want to watch me playing the game, here you can: https://youtu.be/UoxXOgp40t0 :)
Really nice experience. More than a game. One of my favorite entries. Well done ++
@PhilStrahl BROTHER YOU JUST MADE MY DAY MAN!!!!!! SERIOUSLY!! I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH MAN!!! SERIOUSLY! :"D
@Geckoo1337 thankyou so much! Glad you liked the game.
@PhilStrahl thanks a lot bro..!! ๐๐
Unfortunately, even with the volume all the way down, the screamer sound effect is ear-piercing. :(

Even though it wasn't a "scary" game it was still atmospheric. I like the way sound is manipulated and that is well done. The scream soound was a bit hard and I think the footsteps should be a bit softer. The repetetive nature of the bck music can become a bit repeptetive at times but can be replaced with something more ambient maybe.
The game controls are good and the objective is clear. All in all - a solid entry. + Its awesome for you guys to include source code too

I enjoyed the audio and the graphics here - the fading footsteps were a nice touch! I think adding in either some ambient lighting (a spooky torch or lantern) or making the lightning last longer would have been better to make out the surroundings and just be more comfortable to look at. Good job!

2018-04-30 12:28
That WHY ARE YOU RUNNING meme now makes a lot of sense xD
Nice entry, funny concept. I had a good laugh playing. At the end Knuckles killed me, but I will reach the source of the music someday!
I tried the Android version, at first the game froze a bit but later it worked fine. The controls are easy to learn, which is good.
If you want an idea to make it scarier, you could set a sprite for the source if the memes, that way when the lightning strikes the player wouldn't expect the meme to be so close.
Well done!
@AnaGF thankyou soo much for playing the game. It feels so good to find a fellow meme lover ๐๐ as most of the people here weren't able to understand a single meme. I really appreciate your feedback and will definitely try it out to make the game better. Thankyou so much.

To be honest, if you say 'Pop culture viral comedy' I say 'Horror' :-D I think that those 2 genres perfectly fit :-D Seriously, I like you idea a lot. The sound works really well and is trying build tense atmosphere. I would love to be scared, but perhaps I have seen much or memes didn't really hit me :) Overal this is very solid entry. Good job
Well done mates! I like the idea of walking in the dark. Nevertheless, I walked for minutes without anything happened.
I really liked the concept but I couldn't play it very much because I have problems with jumpscares, but that's just a personal taste :) The atmosphere was really well done, the music helps a lot to set the tone. The graphics are very functional as well.
Congratulations on the project guys, keep up the good work :)
So to be honest, I felt a Little bit lost. I followed the Sound of the Music, but nothing happened. I think I spend 5 Minutes running in one direction without anything Happening. Maybe I played it wrong, though.
Anyways, I really like the mood and the use of Sound as a "compass". Really innovative. I just wish there was some other sort of confirmation on whether one runs in the right direction :)
Oh no... a screamer... stuff of my nightmares. memetastic. Nice humor, but needs a screamer warning! The 3D sounds are a nice touch, and it was very atmospheric with the sounds of footsteps and thunder. Good stuff, although not my favorite type of game!
aaaaaaaaa, the screamers tho. Nice meme bruh, meme/10
More seriously, maybe the controls could be a little more fluid or quick, as the sound position isnt obvious, at least we could explore faster.
But overall, it was pretty funny. Big points on humor for the meme (there has to be meme games at every LD, right ?)

Very nice mood, this is definitely a horror game. I don't see the theme reflected too well, but that's personal opinion. I really love seeing the footprints on the dark screen, and the idea of the flashes on screen.
I would like to see more situations when something (unexpected) happens, maybe even jump scares. Some light suddenly flickering on, and dying as soon as get close, or similar things. That would intensify the mood even more.
Very fun game. I did not see which are the genres that are part of the jam theme. Congratulations!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

Meme + horror, nice combination and fits the theme. I found the idea intruding. Nice that there were footprints to show which direction one was moving in the dark. It was quite hard to see where one was moving except when the lightning strikes, but that fit the horror part quite well and for the meme part the sounds. Liked that the Ugandan Knuckles was included. I could not get to the ending cause of my main headphones wire being bit by my rabbit and had to use an old one, so not so easy to follow the music. Other then that it was a nice game as far as I could see. Great work! : )
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/beat-the-narrator
Would be nice to get some ideas, feedback and know what we can improve : )
You made a stressful ambiance, well done, I wasn't expecting something like this haha.
...I still hate jumpscares and probably won't play your game ever again though ;)

It's good to see ours is not thr only game that tortures players with the sound. xD. Great ambience and cool idea. It took me a little to understand the mechanic but once I did, it was REAL fun. I think more game likr yours will be seen in the future. I had a hard time following the music to its source - but evading the memes was doable :D Does the lightning actually also show memes near you? It should. Fun audio game - might need a few more hints here and there for direction (during lightning, or perhaps another visual clue.

neat idea.
Not a fan of memes; I liked the spatial audio usage  good job.
Nice concept! I'm not really familiar with many memes, but I still found it quite funny. I really like the art style, and those fading footprints are a very cool visual effect. However, I had some issues following the music โ even with headphones on I couldn't really tell which direction it was supposed to be coming from (that might just be me being stupid though XD). Despite the humorous nature of the game, you actually did a pretty good job at building up tension with the unsettling music and limited vision. Good job!
ReviewBot 1006 : This game is quite well made, simple yet efficient, the use of spacialized audio files was cool, although I was a bit lost as to where I should have gone. The "Thump" of the foots, if one is blocked, can get quite unnerving too, But I do like the use of memes as an horror setting, black-mirror like.

Not a fan of memes either. Apparently creepy music box and lightning/thunder are enough to bring the mood. Congrats.
A very special game :scream:
