Great pixelated graphics. The enemies are surely unique. I had some trouble with the slicing mechanic, espacially when slicing from Left to Right.

Also rate/play my game if you want

firehawk 2018-04-23 16:32

Thank you so much for your comment. Yeah, sure, I will rate your game with pleasure. And about slicing: it's not a bug. I just have a limit to slice length. I think, that it's quite challenging and add some unique experience to gameplay.

eldemarkki 2018-04-23 17:23

I also liked the pixel art style. I didn't really understand when I got a 'Deadly Wave' that did I die or is the wave just named like that. Also, there could have been some music when playing, not just the menu.

hkoisumi 2018-04-24 00:16

Freaking amazing! Excelent work, wanna check ours too??

@HKoisumi Yeap, sure. And also, thanks for the comment :)

The slicing doesn't feel very good. It also seems like there is some kind of delay before you can slice again, and since the length of the slice doesn't seem to affect the damage you deal it really ends up just being more efficient to clicking on the enemies as fast as you can (though there is still the delay before clicking will do damage again). Hope this is at least somewhat helpful towards continuing work on the game, or on your next game.

firehawk 2018-04-24 08:43

@Apples_mmmmmmmm Yeap! thank you so much for your advices! Next time, I will do my best! ;)

polegar 2018-04-24 13:41

Really cool graphics ! You should add the music in game instead of the menu :). Anyway, nice job for your first game.

By the way, why can't I vote for the graphics ?

vasco-freitas 2018-04-24 13:43

Looks good visually, slicing mechanic is an interesting idea, although it didn't seem to work very well. Sometimes no slice appeared, or it seemed to lag. This could be interesting for mobile devices. Nice job :)

svarttand 2018-04-24 14:13

Cool idea but as stated before me the slicing was a bit weird as sometimes it just stopped in the middle of the slice or did not even start. Some audio in the game would have been great.

firehawk 2018-04-24 14:23

@polegar @Vasco Freitas @SvartTand thank you very much for your kind words.

microwerx 2018-04-24 16:28

Neat idea. I thought the graphics were outstanding. I thought that art, maybe painting or something, would have something to do with the mechanic. The slash needs a little bug fixing...as a player, it should be tied to time and how long you click/hold/release the mouse. The game looks good enough to keep working on. Good job with your first LD. I hope you continue to do LD in the future.

firehawk 2018-04-24 16:32

@microwerx Yeap. Thank you for your advices. I really appreciate this :).

talops 2018-04-24 17:21

The slashing mechanic didn't work very well for me so I couldn't hold for long as soon as the armored guys spawned. Good graphics with even some dithering even though it is quite shy (most pixelart jam games don't even dither, even mine :p). Faces and proportions reminded me of Terraria so much!

cristhor98 2018-04-24 17:23

The slicing its very weird, but the idea its interesting. I thought that it would be a good idea that the scenario influence the game, that is, for example the streetlights stop/cancel your hit

iaaac 2018-04-24 17:51

Congratulations on finishing your first game. I liked the pixel art style for this. The only issue i have with the art is the pixel density of the character is different from the background (Basically background looks more higher res than the character). Cutting people up felt really weak due to the lack of sound effects and also how the slashing stops after holding it for a while. Good job though and good luck with your future games.

linkwin 2018-04-24 19:01

I don't really understand the theme. I like the concept and the gameplay was rewarding but overall a little flat. Keep it up!

korath 2018-04-24 20:08

maybe i didnt understood the machanics fully, but it didnt kick for me. Art style was neat. But you finished a gamy on your first entry thats important! keep going.

jon-nova 2018-04-24 20:54

Nice game !!! I think cutting mechanics would work best on mobile

firehawk 2018-04-25 01:53

@talops @cristhor98 @iaaac @linkwin @korath @jon-nova Thanks to people, that rate and comment my game. You are the best :). Really it's a big support for me.

shackra 2018-04-25 03:53

My main concern with the game is the lack of sound effects, they provide a feedback to the player when they perform an action in a game and not having them affects drastically the experience they perceive. Second concern I have is how "hidden" the instructions are from the player, if your player does not know what they are expected to do and how they should do it they may quite faster that you can say LDJAM; you need to protect the player from himself by posing an structure that ensures they understands what are they are supposed to do and what is the end goal, for instance, instructions at the begin of the game or better yet a "reduced" experience where they safely can discover the mechanics of your game (but without making a boring tutorial, that is).

firehawk 2018-04-25 08:49

@shackra Wow, you spend so much time, to just write me such a big comment with advices and criticism. I really appreciate this. Thank you!

blackoptics8 2018-04-26 04:40

Please take all this as constructive criticism! I would suggest letting the player know what the situation is and why enemies are attacking. Try to keep art resolution the same between sprites and background as consistency goes a long way. The slashing mechanic made me feel a bit detached from the characters (try picturing yourself standing there and just seeing them die from an unknown source) I'm guessing it's either like a telekinetic thing or some invisible entity that escaped from a lab idk but make it apparent to the player. I'm also not sure about how you say art is a genre as it's generally considered as just an asset in games. The wave text also mostly stayed to the right and a bit off the screen until it said "wave 3" and "deadly wave". As others said audio ads a lot to games and feedback so try and add those in whenever you have a chance https://beepbox.co/ is really great for making music and https://www.bfxr.net/ is great for sound effects if you're looking for something to use. Awesome job for your first game and in one day! ;D

firehawk 2018-04-26 11:27

@blackoptics8 Got it! Anyway, thank you for the comment. And about the Art https://boltkey.cz/ld41roller/ : Screenshot_20180426-162646.png

neowhoru 2018-04-28 10:43

I like the game really - the controls are a little bit "stucking" but the idea is really great. I think if you add some sounds and improve the gameplay this could the a really cool game.

2018-05-02 17:24

Good start! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrZuBymYcB4

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-05-07 01:00

Good job! Cool game!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.
