LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Save the Hats by Gruhh 2017-12-10T23:20:29Z

Very good game with nice art and music! The gameplay works well and has a good number of different enemies for a game made in 72 hours. I have three suggestions:

1. Don't show again the initial dialog after a Game Over. 2. Score counter! I beated the game, but was no reason to keep playing. 3. Don't use a dark theme for a game about a space magician who steals hats.

VIRTUAL VIRTUAL REALITY by dragoon 2017-12-10T00:21:57Z

The art and sound are very good! The number of details placed in the room was amazing (BTW nice posters about brazilian games). The gameplay was good, but can be better: A faster feedback would be nicer and avoiding the first meteors was a bit boring.

Something that annoys me was the WebGL canvas resolution who was bigger than browser on my screen, and I have to play with F11 (max res) since there is no full screen button.

My record was 3200 and increase it was almost impossible here. Perhaps was my computer.

Sofra by dietzribi 2017-12-21T23:51:59Z

Very good graphics and sound! Amazing mood with the use of theme. And the ending was, uhm, surprising! I like use of two difficult levels. I beat your game on "normal" setting.

I see three main problems with your game:

First, the pick/drop are in the same buttons, so I need to walk a little, drop a rabbit, walk a little more, drop another and so on.

Second, there is no score or something for replayability of your game. For a short game

Third, some "rooms" need too precision on hitbox for beating some challenges. So, without a good hitbox view, some "rooms" may be annoying, like the last challenge.

Anyway, these are small flaws for this amazing compo entry!

Eight More Drinks, Please by rplnt 2017-12-16T18:00:17Z

The left/right being on relation with character's point of view confuses me a lot. Good game idea and use of theme. The models (specially the characters) are funny!

14 points was my high score on your game.

Earl's Quest by wujood 2017-12-18T00:20:43Z

**Pros:** - Game concept - A good amount of content - Many graphics - Open world - Almost all graphics - Some musics - Sounds - Nice references

**Cons:** - BUGS - Lack of second dungeon. I can't enter on stairs and the game finish when I got the second key at first dungeon. Initially, I guessed that this was a bug. - Some collisions are counterintuitive (like mentioned) - Visual feedback for damage - Some repetitive musics (maze) - Music reset on each maze room - I failed to notice how does the game actually gets harder with more coins collected - Walk speed is a little slow - Some empty places - Some graphics are too simple (even for Game Boy standards)

Bugs: Sometimes the stairs/doors won't work or work with delay. The first maze door freeze me, probably I gonna stuck out of stage and need to reset. Also, the same bug than @x-budsterized-x mentioned about being stuck on first dungeon wall.

I can't believe that this game was made in 72 hours with too many area! For this time your result was a great job!

Famous Knight by Lucas Ferrantelli 2017-12-16T22:58:39Z

I can't believe that this game was made in 72 hours! Art and sound are very polished. The animations have too many frames, especially the bosses. The voices are so funny! Congratulations!

The challenges are a bit unbalanced. I died around 10 times at second dungeon, but beated every boss at first try, except the last who took me two tries. The last dungeon I guess that was easier than the second dungeon.

Bug: I beated the game and tried to fight versus the first boss again and the game frozen!

Cybercage Battleground by makiki99 2017-12-16T19:42:42Z

One of my favorites! The controls work nice, reminds me my entry to this Ludum Dare. I miss the background music. The different enemies behaviours were well done. The size of enemies AND players used for displaying the remaining HP was a neat detail! The difficult curve was nice, but can be more faster. I suggest you a regen system, since when you completely run out of ammo in stage is, basically, game over.

Sometimes the controls stuck on Google Chrome, so I switch into Mozilla Firefox and had no more problems.

My high score was 236 seconds.

Knights and Kings by Chaosinism 2017-12-10T00:25:43Z

Neat idea! The some small mistakes on execution: I didn't like the drag control, it fails in crucial moves. A click control would be a better choice. The music, graphics and animation are simple, but very effective in set the mood! Initially, I dislike the friendly fire, but it was only a matter of mastering the controls, and fits well with the theme. Overall: A great entry for compo!

Suggestion: Don't restart the music loop when the player lose. On my firsts tries, I died a lot at first level, so the loop restarts very frequently.

My record was 85 points after keep playing for almost a hour.

Cardhoard by HacksawUnit 2017-12-16T19:49:02Z

Too good! Certain one of bests of this Ludum Dare! Finding flaws was a hard task, but I guess that when the game was faster, avoiding some boxes that came in specific moments was almost impossible.

My high score was 24910.

Tower of Mana by Pedro Henrique Cesar 2017-12-19T00:51:28Z

Awesome idea with a very good execution and a nice challenge! Reminds me Necrosphere in “just one more try” nature. Although your game may be unfair, like the flying enemies on level 4 who appears sometimes in unavoidable moments.

The music was very good, except maybe the boss music who is a little repetitive. The art style sometimes doesn't have resolution consistency, like the doors and the HUDs. It's easy to lost track of mana bar, maybe a sound feedback can help this, like the annoying charge sound effect from Megaman.

After almost two hours trying (thanks to fourth floor) I complete the game! The boss was beated without big efforts, just shooting beams and jumping on second platform.

NoteBoy by carlosvVk 2017-12-16T19:46:55Z

**Pros**: - Game concept - Controls - Graphics - Animations

**Cons**: - Hitbox/Jump low height. This annoys me a lot! A bigger jump could be nice too. - Sounds - Lack of background music

This game could be turned into a very addictive mobile game! My high score at your game was 7 noteboys at same time.

This is NOT a reference by Chacho 2017-12-16T12:27:17Z

Brillant theme use! One of most funny games that I have played on this Ludum Dare. The music was very good and the graphics fits well. I suggest you to display the final score in the HUD. Good job!

My high score in **This is NOT a reference** was 217 after almost one hour trying!

The Hunger Maims by SubZtep 2017-12-16T12:30:46Z

**Pros**: - Game concept - 2D arts - Almost all 3D arts - Sound effects

**Cons**: - Slowly progression - Too easy if you aren't impatient - The "nest" graphic - Lack of background music

The first time that I touched the next and I go into title screen, I mistaked it with Game Over. A suggestion: After you complete a level, show the longevity remaining to the player, so he can try a better score. Overall, nice job!

10 inches or less by Almost Panda Studio 2017-12-22T00:40:39Z

The music and game concept was very good, but the aspect that I liked most was the art/animation!

Unfortunally, is not too hard, so I complete it a little fast (less than 15 minutes I guess).

Overall, good job!

Sky-Corsair by Sozey 2017-12-10T00:27:42Z

Good game. I like the dialogs (despite the slow text) and graphics and dislike the controls (you slide a lot) and the music. Like the others, I missed a reset button so much.

Bug: When the second dialog starts, a rock hurt me.

Best water saved: 10. Best enemy sunk: 8.

Infected Pong by PhillSerrazina 2017-12-10T23:10:51Z

Very addictive game, with an awesome idea! The graphics are funny (WaterFox, nice one!) and the sounds fill well.

Took me a while to understand that the points spent aren't the left or right ones, but the center ones. Also, took me a while to notice that I need to click several times in some popups.

I agree about putting lives on this game. Also, it's annoying that the player can't see his pong points on shop screen. Anyway, I disagree about the game was too hard, but is a little luck based, since some popups that show in strategic places sometimes mess with the game. Also, this Infected Pong works well as two player cooperative game.

Small mistake: You say, in this page and in your game, that "A" key move the bar, but actually is the "S" keys.

My record was 319.

High Protein Diet Dungeon by Lex 2017-12-10T01:02:30Z

Nice voxel art and music! The gameplay needs very quick reflexes. There a small mistake: You can defeat almost all enemies just dashing continuous (even at full HP). This game probably works better with lives. Anyway, good game!

My record was picking the key.

Birty Land by FelipeDev 2017-12-10T14:32:10Z

Thank you all for the feedback! I'm thinking about release a post-jam version with some suggestions.

@quixatocs, you can see a little more area on full screen mode.

@darkgrisen, you can upgrade your speed at pause menu (press space). You earn points destroying the Birties and their hives.

Birty Land by FelipeDev 2017-12-31T17:33:12Z

Thank you all for the comments! Thanks to the feedback received, I created a Post-Jam version. Link on page. This version contains several improvements, but the most important changes are the balance ones and the instructions who are clearer.

@lex, @zinkler, @aurel I made a mistake in the code, so the bigger clones won't gain speed. Anyway, the balance was greatly changed on Post-Jam version. Checkout!

LD42 — Running out of space

worm.exe by Linus 2018-08-19T17:00:57Z

One of the best "Running out of space" game concepts from what I have seen so far! I liked a lot the scoreboard. The graphics suits well. Music too, but a bigger loop would be nicer. I suggest you to speed up the time for difficult gain, since the beginning can be a little boring when I was trying to get a high score.

Anyway, good job!

Corrupted Space by egordorichev 2018-08-19T23:49:31Z

A compo entry with 31 stages and many mechanics? Impressive. The music is memorable, the graphics are nice and the game works very well. I died 64 times and took 26 minutes and 51 seconds for completing.

My only criticism was the visual feedback of backteria respawn. I frequently guessed that I colleted everything and some bacteria start to respawn after few seconds, so I suggest you for putting the feedback some seconds before.

Pats Pack by Landon 2018-08-26T23:56:21Z

I enjoyed the mechanics, but I can't see my high score since the game resets on Game Over. The graphics are good.

I suggest you raising the collision time needed for a game over and put an auto-aim, since the way what the game works you need to move into enemies direction for aiming, and a single touch results on Game Over.

Battle Billiard Galactic Edition by Anudin 2018-08-26T23:55:14Z

The rocket collision mechanics are a little hard for mastering, since the rockets are too small, but this worth it. Probably this game would be funnier with a bigger hit area when the rockets are spinning, maybe with a bigger rockets. I guess that if you make the controls more accurate (less "sliding") and make the game faster, this would be more funnier.

I missed a high score feature. Besides this, very nice game. My high score was 264 points.

Born to jump by Blix 2018-08-15T12:31:22Z

Innovative game. The different phrases when losing are a good detail. Nice touch in humor, specially the "glitch" of stucking on a platform.

The mouse control and the hit detection need a little polishing (at least on WebGL player). I missed a quicker/easier restart button.

I completed all levels!

Space Escape by FelipeDev 2018-08-19T19:58:41Z

Thank you all for the feedback!

@antti-haavikko Yeah. During the Jam I only tested with myself so I had no problems with the patterns or ending with zero score. In the next version I'm thinking on marking some parts on ground for helping the player for noticing the patterns.

Yes, stage five and seven need a little balance on the corridors. And yes, the number on top right (O2) was the oxygen counter or time limit.

330 * 10 is 300 because of the three digit limit, so the bigger digit was cut.

@johnny-turbo I thought "(almost) no one will take the theme literally". I was very wrong XD

Space Escape by FelipeDev 2018-08-27T23:21:37Z

Thank you all for the feedback!

@nihilaleph what is your browser?

CubiCo by Dominic 2018-08-19T21:11:32Z

I'm amazed about the game content created on 72 hours, specially the different mechanics! I completed all levels.

I suggest you to change the "mutable tile" from black/gray/yellow into red/yellow/green or even black/gray/white, because your colors confused me a bit.

Totally unexpected interview. Great job!

Claustrophobia by deformhead 2018-08-19T13:16:41Z

Nice game besides being very short and you can't predict some enemy behaviours without failing. Your Game Boy art is very good!

Zero Grace Megadrive by triplefox 2018-08-26T23:58:34Z

Great job! The game is pretty solid and works very well, while is innovative. The only problem was the enemies who, in higher levels, easily kill themselves.

My high score was level 15 with 2998 points.
