Real nice idea and very well executed. Really love the art style as well as the splitting the screen effect when you add more noteboys. My only improvement would be to make the controls a little more responsive as theres a bit of a time delay between clicking and the jump happening. Great job nonetheless! See you next jam!

carlosvvk 2017-12-04 23:18

@quixatocs Thank you! I've already fixed it.

Liked the concept, thought it was quite fun. I managed to hold up until I had four guys to take care of (though this was super hard using a trackpad).

As somebody else said before, input felt laggy and frustrating. Mostly because the event that triggers jumping is releasing the mouse button, switching that to the "on press" event should improve the input. There are a couple of tiny rough details about how input works, but that's the most annoying one.

I played on a laptop using my trackpad, so it was extremely hard to go from one character to the next in time, perhaps it'd be cool to assign each character to a key (maybe even change them everytime) instead of using the mouse.

These are just some minor details to polish the game, keep up the good work! :-)

@ludipe I considered the keys option, but I ended doing it by clicking because the keys could be a problem for some players. And yes, the 'on press' event would be better. Thank you for the feedback!

Finally a game about being a notario 10/10

jcmonkey 2017-12-05 02:37

i was gona say, "great another runner", but then i saw the screen split and was interested. it then kept splitting, and that is super amazing. nice job

neowedge 2017-12-05 23:37

Simple idea, great game!!! Congratulations!!! :)

Challenging, well made game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUur4iynK94

Yeah the split screen thing is clever! Its kinda tough in a very distinctive way

creativewhisper 2017-12-10 10:28

The split screen mechanic is very clever! The game fits very well with the theme and you manage to get a pretty decent game around the core mechanic. As the people are commenting, the controls don't fell very responsive but it seems that it is something that is easy to polish. Good work!

lex 2017-12-12 23:23

Great game! Fits nice within the theme. Try adding some music next time.

belea 2017-12-12 23:33

As someone has pointed out first, the input felt a little bit laggy, but it was quite funny anyway.

It was really interesting the split-screen system, I liked it. The visual style and animations fit perfectly. Really good game, good job :)

zenkerdus 2017-12-12 23:41

Polished! + for notebook game setting.

dodormeur 2017-12-14 21:03

Really cool game, and really top-notch graphics !

Only the controls could be made more responsive, but apart from that, it is a really cool game, and could be a fully-fledged game (and I think on mobile it could really nicely work with touch controls)

grostonton 2017-12-14 21:09

The idea is good and the realization, even if it is simplistic, is totally successful. Good job!

racso 2017-12-14 22:29

I like this game. I could handle up to 5 noteboys, but then things got really hard!

The delay when clicking is the only thing I think should really be improved. I played the web version, and the character jumps a noticeable amount of time after clicking, which makes things more difficult than they should.

Overall, this is a cool idea! :)

arden 2017-12-15 19:12

fun idea, and pretty challenging.

I found the jumps to be a little less forgiving than I'd have liked, which made timing jumps harder than managing multiple "notemen"

zirrrus 2017-12-15 19:15

Cool concept! Though I have to say, I found it very difficult - the hitboxes of the enemies seemed a bit big. And is there a bit of a delay to your jumps? The latter one could have been because I was playing in the browser. Very well done though, polished too!

ajayajayaj 2017-12-15 20:02

Such a cool idea! It did seem really hard, because the jumps seem to make me die even when it didn't look like I collided with the enemy.

mar3k 2017-12-15 20:47

Cool idea, but the game is so damn hard right from the start, I think it's mostly because of the jumping, it has to be really precise which makes it lot harder. But I liked it!

kodiqi 2017-12-15 23:16

Really cool idea and nicely presented. This is a fun art style and you nailed it for the most part. It's a little odd that the character is walking but nothing else moves. The sound is OK, it might be nice if the music played throughout the game (just more quietly than in the menu). The jump is weird but has already been addressed by several people, it did make this less fun than it could have been for me though. There isn't a ton of content here but the splitting mechanic really makes this interesting. A great take on the theme too.

madbeagle 2017-12-16 18:36

I was afraid that was going to be really boring, and then the screen split - really nice idea. Would be a good mobile game, as some above have said maybe the collision detection could be tuned a little.

pebkac 2017-12-16 18:38

I really like the concept; usually this theme inspires people to cram in more enemies, not more players. The jumping felt a bit laggy and a bit too low/close-by, but that could be my arcade-addled mind. All-round, nice one!

felipedev 2017-12-16 19:46

**Pros**: - Game concept - Controls - Graphics - Animations

**Cons**: - Hitbox/Jump low height. This annoys me a lot! A bigger jump could be nice too. - Sounds - Lack of background music

This game could be turned into a very addictive mobile game! My high score at your game was 7 noteboys at same time.

picapica 2017-12-20 22:47

I was so bad at this! But it was a well made little game with fitting minimalistic design. One thing I missed was some more feedback when I died, sound and/or visuals would be nice.

Our team does a weekly indie gamedev podcast called Nice Games Club, and we just did a Let's Play episode where we played thirty-six (!!) Ludum Dare 40 games, including yours (which we thought had one of the best uses of the theme)!
