Great idea and a good game. I like the clunky controls that leave me a real impression of maneuvring a big piece of metal. The only thing that prevent me from playing far more time is the speed of the submarine.

Things I liked - everything! - good music that fits the game - sound effects are all great - the complexity of systems based on the player's actions are awesome - innovative controls that make sense

Improvements: - There's nothing stopping someone from taking a 'spray and pray' method of attack; the torpedos are too plentiful and fire too quickly force the player into calculated attacks; perhaps this is an OK method of play; but maybe put some form of reward system in for tactical playing (e.g. high points for accuracy)

Bugs: - didn't notice any

@verygenuinecraze Glad you liked it! Rebalancing all the speeds make it a bit more pleasant experience was on the to-do list, unfortunately 48 hours go by way too quickly. :D

@bw-devel Accuracy points are a great idea! Why didn't I think of that? And torpedoes do indeed reload a bit too quickly. Thank you for the feedback and glad you liked it!

I really enjoyed this, feels quite solid. It did take me a sec to realise I was the tiny sub and not the boat.

Cool game! I liked the midi-style music... reminded me of Ultima Underworl. The concept is really cool and the perception of the boats is really well done. A little help with the rudder would be nice. Excellent work!

Yes! This totally scratched an itch I've had for a while. It reminds me of the game NavyField which I played for literally thousands of hours in the early-mid 2000s. What a great nostalgia trip.

The whole atmosphere is great. I really like the subtle details like the ocean being a blueprint map, and the German (?) words on the UI controls. Also, limiting the UI to not show in the further zoom levels was smart, otherwise it'd be overpowered.

The AI seems just smart enough to kill you if you're not doing the bare-minimum to avoid them, but also not smart enough to really put up a challenge. That's perfectly fine for me in a gamejam honestly. I plaid 3 or 4 times and got better every time. Awesome!

Wonderful idea. The concept was well executed, and I love the fun, retro vibe. Great work!

Cool idea! Running away from these ships is a lot of fun. I understand that there is no friendly fire? I tried really hard to kill them like that

Good Job. I enjoyed the moment and the idea of three different layers you could move between. Lots of fun.

axelrinaldo 2021-05-01 15:13

@subman It was on the to-do list! I quite enjoy the idea of the maneuvers one could pull if it had been implemented. :D

This was great fun! Initially felt a little overwhelmed when I got swarmed, controls got easier after understanding how to escape :) Liked the audio and spamming those torpedoes (perhaps a little too much!) Got stuck on front of a boat and got pushed around a bit which was unexpected

Cool game! I think the different things you were able to do, such as change the speed and depth of the submarine, add depth to the game and make it more fun. It makes sense that a submarine could change the depth level. In other words, the actual gameplay and the context of a submarine are integrated nicely.

I felt that the gameplay was pretty balanced as well. Turning speed and speed of the submarine itself made it not too easy or not too hard to take down the subs. This made the game rewarding to play!

The music was good as well, and it felt somehow like submarine music; kind of ominous.

Maybe to improve, I would say that it needs some sense of progress. Some examples of how you could do this could be making different levels with an increasing number of submarines. Or adding powerups/upgrades/health pickup items.

Fun game! For some reason the music did not play for me in the web version, but as it seems to work for others that might be a problem on my side (I will just leave Audio unrated and imagine the moody submarine music the other commenters have described ).

I liked the basic game mechanics and think that you could build upon that if you wanted to develop it further post-compo. It definitely is a bit challenging to control at first, but that's part of the game and fits the submarine well. Making the speed influence how easily you are detected is quite clever and has a cool risk and reward balance!

Good game I enjoyed playing it and I will replay it. Good game mechanics, really fun to play. The music and audio could be improved (some DingDing, und "Ja mein Kapitan" maybe) some more instrument and less repetitive musique, tell me if you need help for audio in after LD48 release). Well done

I managed to be invincible one time don't know why the enemies ship couldn't hurt me anymore.

crazymouse 2021-05-15 13:03

Fun game! Well done! I really like the music
