Love the little audio snippets "yikes", "shi.." etc, gameplay is smooth too

One of the best "one-button" Ludum Dare games I've played. Well polished and fun. My HS is 16, because I'm just sooo bad after 10 speed up haha. How the hell did someone get 75? :O

Love the chill music and funny sounds effects. One of my favorites so far :)

This one was a lot of fun. Very simple and polished. The sound effects were my favourite part.

This game felt great to play when I managed to put a few blocks on top each other in quick succession. Then, when I inevitably dropped one in the lava, the little 'shi*' and 'f*ck' narated exactly how I felt, haha XD I think the strong point of this game was the smooth gameplay, and how satisfying it is. Also, dropping a block in one of those holes really lowered the lava quite a lot, which felt really nice :) I liked the music too, and showing the tower you built after you die is a nice little touch.

The only bug I ran into was that when a block fall kind of stable, but sideways, it would take a long time for the game to register that it was valid. And even then it was kind of impossible to put something on top of it

But this was a really minor problem that I ran into only once. This was great! I enjoyed this a lot :D

Simple yet very addictive. The sound effects happened the first time I couldn't stop laughing.. The same words were being uttered by me  Well done!

Lots of charm, I really enjoyed playing it!

This is fantastic. The sound effects when you miss are amazing. It really makes missing fun.

Just when I thought I've seen every possible iteration of the stacker concept, I came across this game. I haven't seen one with an organic time limit like this where you had to start making risk reward decisions dynamically. Basically, if the last piece I dropped was a big square, I would try to drop another piece asap. But when it was small, I would wait until my piece came around before placing it, giving me some time to get the timing down better. This is all made possible by the lava timer because otherwise there's no need to optimize!

My highest score was 34, getting onto the leaderboard is good enough for me. I feel like it's a bit RNG dependent though, because on some runs I would get like 5 holes right off the bat, but in other games I wouldn't see one at all. They make a huge difference and I'd be curious what the spawn rate on those suckers are.

The physics implementation of it all worked very well and it made each drop feel intense honestly. I forgot to doublecheck but are the leaderboard stacks ACTUALLY the same stack as what the player got in terms of positioning? If so that's very cool. There were some runs I had where I was practically building a bridge horizontally which would look funny on the leaderboard.

@peachtreeoath Thanks for all the feedback! The RNG on the holes is pretty harsh indeed, every time a block spawns, there's a 1 in 10 chance a hole will spawn with it. Obviously, a few lucky rolls can change the game, but that was the best I could muster in a short time frame.

Also, Yes, the stacks on the leaderboard are exact replicas of the ones from your game. I'm just storing the position, rotation, scale and color of each block along with your score, then recreating it on the leaderboard.

Thanks for playing and for all the kind words :)

@nick-rafalski got it, thanks for the explanations!

I found myself trying over and over cause i kept thinking "I can do better" But i did not lol. Great game very chill music to get stressed too!

Great idea! I played something slightly similar in an arcade once, stacking games are always a good time! The static bright red background is a little harsh for my eyes but its probably just me haha. I have been wanting to implement a leaderboard solution for myself for jams at some point. Any tips on the tech stack you used?

Very addictive game. Sometimes if a piece is not steady when it freezes it is impossible to continue. My best score was 19 after multiple attempts!.

Cool game, I really liked the menu and camera motion.

lazzor 2022-04-11 17:57

Damn I am bad at these stacking games :D But nonetheless I like it. Nice touch to the main menu for making the text fit into the 3D scene. Also, I really like your scene transition!

tigerchris2000 2022-04-11 20:06

Very simple concept but insanely fun to play. I think the sound effect was an great idea and kept me playing longer then I anticpated. Some other shapes then a box would be a nice bonus if you want to extend it the future.

I really like the music and voice acting. The gameplay noting super special, but I did still had fun playing it. Overall a good and well made compo game. Well done.
