Great mechanic ! And quite hard haha I'm not used to type every single command while playing a platformer. Again, nice use of the theme. :)
i tried some o the commands and they seem to work ok, but the pace of the action is too slow for me...
Haha this one is really fun, you feel the time pressure when you run straight ahead into the enemy and have to type that "SHOOT" asap. The game could use some better invalid command resolution, I started by typing 'RUN', game asked which direction so I tried answering with RIGHT or FORWARD which wasn't recognised. Maybe try "Which direction? (try RUN *DIRECTION*)" or something. But once you get the hang of system, it's fun to play with :D
Ha... great concept! I haven't felt compelled to type so quickly in quite a while. RUN RIGHT! JUM...
I like the music so far, but how do I walk/run? Which directions work? I tried forward, right, ahead, and didn't get anything. I'll come back to play but any help here?
This is a really cool concept. It was a lot of fun after I figured out the controls, lol. Took me forever to figure out how to move, Also "Quit" doesn't work. Overall, I can see high potential for this format of a game. It definitely rewards faster typers, which makes it cool to even watch this game.
@Fanttum - RIGHT and LEFT work, but you have to type it as "WALK RIGHT". HELP will list all the commands. @pohead12345 - QUIT doesn't work on the WebGL version since you can't 'quit' a web app.
Thanks! :) Got to play a bit and then randomly fell to death. Thanks WebGL I guess haha.
This was really neat. Initially I had a problem because I typed "run" and it asked me which direction so I typed "right". I kinda interpreted it as it was asking me a separate command but then I realized it wanted the whole phrase. Really well done!
The main problem with this genre it's balance and level design. It's quite hard to react, especially because react speed of character it's slow, not critical but still a problem. Overall I enjoyed the game. Keep practicing, we both know you can do better.
Now I want to know the whole backstory of the bunny cat character. Why does he have a gun, why is he jumping on the roofs, Where can he get a cookie???
I liked the combination of text based and shooter, but it would have been nice if I could have pressed the up arrow and reuse a previously typed command, much like a Linux command line interface.
This was really fun! I agree with @saoi-games that some typical terminal use-ability features would be nice, especially tab-complete.
I think the level design was pretty good for a game jam too! I definitely felt like I had enough time to type the required commands, it was just about executing.
Nice Job!
Wonderful! It really fun to be trying to typ all the words out in time without being too difficult. Great job!
Excellent take on the theme and it's pretty fun to play. I think a little tutorial at the beginning would be useful to teach the controls.
Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional
Hey, small world! We made the same mix between Text-based games and platformer. Check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/type-n-jump
I've tried the WebGL version and I wasn't affected by bugs :) Really nice work, congratulations dude!
I like minimal audio/graphics combo, everything tied together well. Wish the text parser had been a little more flexible with commands (one letter shortcuts, slightly more inuitive controls i.e. walk in direction your facing, typing r or l to face in that direction). Difficulty was good, not so hard as to be discouraging but not so easy you can beat it your first try (but it doesn't keep you from checking out the majority of the game's mechanic). Kick ass entry!
This game, unlike other similar games in this ludum dare seems to have a good grasp of design and puts the challenge in the hands of the player rather than making unfair. It's more about how well the player executes an obvious set of commands rather than about letting the player figure shit out as they go and losing constantly because of it. The music is suitable and fits the visuals. The SFX were serviceable. With tweaks, more variety and a doubling down on its design philosophy, this could be quite an enjoyable way to pass time.
Brumm brumm
Love the music! I feel weitd playing this with just a text based interface, so good job complying the theme xD!!
That was enjoyable but too hard for me. I am slow type-writer so when I am running, I fail to quickly respond. I would be grateful if you could add 'up' for command history and 'tab' for autocomplete. The visuals looks good and the sounds are nice. Good job.
Lots of fun. definitely showed my inaccuracy while typing. Mood and gameplay set up well. need some obvious easter egs
Just saw your game on stream! Pretty neat game :D Looking forward to your next submission!
The game is awesome. The movement works well but sometimes my player would get stuck in a collision space somewhere and it would mess me up because i would clip. I do think some of the commands would be better off if they were shorter. Overall i had a lot of fun and beat it in no time :)
So fun! This is honestly one of the best games in this ludum dare! I like the sound of keyboard while i am typing (feels very satisfying) and i also like the mood and how well executed your idea was.
